Group A
St. Rose 3, Donovan Catholic 1
Junior Matt Dayton scored two goals and the Purple Roses topped the Griffins to pick up a win on the final day of SCT group play. Owen Moran added a goal for St. Rose, while Charlie Yuro scored the Donovan Catholic goal.
Group B
No. 3 CBA 2, Middletown South 1
Seniors Brayden Perry and Phil Bodenski both scored in the final 1:41 and the Colts pulled out a thrilling win over the Eagles to clinch first place in Group B, earning them a first-round bye in the SCT.
Middletown South broke a scoreless draw in the 77th minute on a goal by senior Matteo Niglio, who stoled a back-pass to the keeper and finished it for the one-goal lead.
Just under 1:30 later, Perry drew a foul in the box and buried the ensuing penalty kick to tie the game with 1:41 remaining on the clock. In the final minute, Bodenski flicked a head-ball into the net off a long throw-in by senior Charlie Messano for the game-winning goal with 49 seconds showing on the clock.
CBA goalkeeper Sean Najdzinowicz made a leaping save on a 40-yard shot by Matteo Gallina ticketed for the upper 90 in the 64th minute to keep Middletown South from scoring the icebreaker 13 minutes prior to the actual first goal.
Manchester 3, Monmouth 1
Senior Anderson Ordoñez-Mejia scored an equalizer in the 38th minute and senior Cody McLeod gave Manchester the lead for good in the 45th as the Hawks downed the Falcons for a win in their final group-stage match.
Junior Lua Mendonca-Braga gave Monmouth a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 21st minute before Ordoñez-Mejia tied it off a pass from Erik Balkius. Brayden Kurak set up the game-winner by McLeod and Josh Rosado capped the scoring in the 75th.
Group C
Red Bank 1, Shore 0
Sophomore Brian Garcia scored the game-winning goal in the 58th minute and the Bucs held on to beat the Blue Devils, clinching second place in the group and knocking Shore out of the Shore Conference Tournament.
Garcia gave the ball up to junior teammate Alex Salvo, who gave it right back to his sophomore midfield-mate. Garcia took a dribble to his left and ripped a left-footed shot to the far right corner of the goal for the go-ahead score.
Red Bank senior goalkeeper Eric Minetti made a diving save in the final 10 minutes to preserve the lead.
With Red Bank’s win, Central wins Group C and earns a first-round bye, while Howell slips into the tournament as the third-place team in the group.
Group D
Toms River South 7, Point Beach 3
Junior Shane Gambarony went off for four goals and the Indians coasted to a win over the Garnet Gulls.
Group E
No. 10 Southern 2, Long Branch 1 (OT)
Senior Brody Reynolds scored off a pass from classmate Kaan Zenger five seconds before time ran out on the game and the Rams clinched second place in Group E while also eliminating the Green Wave from the SCT.
Needing a win to advance to the SCT, Long Branch hit the post in the final 20 seconds, which led to the Southern counter-attack that ended the game.
Senior Jefferson Rubi Cruz scored off a pass from Aidan Donnelly to five Southern a 1-0 lead in the first half.
Group F
Middletown North 6, Point Boro 0
Senior Josiah Stepney scored the first two goals of the game and assisted the third to jumpstart a Lions win over the Panthers that clinched second place in the group.
Junior Cam Del Gross assisted each of Stepney’s goals to open the scoring and later scored one of his own to close out the scoring. Ethan Kinch scored off a Stepney assist to make the score 3-0 and Ryan Barnao and Paul Que each scored to pad the lead.
Lacey 7, Keyport 0
Junior Anthony Introna posted a hat trick and both Tanner Grozinski and Colin Hayes each dished out two assists to lead the Lions over the Red Raiders to complete a perfect run through the group stage in Group F.
Group G
Pinelands 3, New Egypt 0
Michael DeMillio, Peyton Auermuller and Atticus Evison-Behrman each scored a goal and the Wildcats shutout the Warriors to close out group play with a win.
