Group B
No. 8 St. John Vianney 2, No. 2 CBA 1
Junior Mason Boles scored off a through-ball from senior Kyle DiMarco in the 72nd minute and the Lancers (8-2) upended the Colts (9-4) for their first win over CBA since the 2012 NJSIAA Tournament.
SJV grabbed a 1-0 lead on an own goal in the 17th minute on a rip by DiMarco that ricocheted off a CBA defender. Vianney carried the one-goal edge into halftime thanks, in part, to a sprawling save by Lancers junior goalkeeper Liam Steiner that kept the Colts off the board.
CBA answered with the equalizer in the 49th minute, when an attempted clearance by St. John Vianney bounced out to Colts senior Nick Tesauro, who struck a volley through the outstretched grasp of Steiner and into the upper left corner of the goal.
In the 72nd, DiMarco gathered a loose ball near midfield, knifed a pair of defenders and slipped a pass through to Boles. The junior striker was initially blocked by a CBA defender, but maintained control of the ball and buried a shot to the lower left for his team-leading 12th goal of the season.
