Shore Conference Tournament

Group Stage

Group A

No. 5 Toms River East 5, Ranney 0

Senior Tommy Renkin scored two goals after assisting a first-half goal by junior Aiden Corapi and the Raiders (9-2) rolled to a win over the Panthers (8-4-1) to wrap up first place in Group A and a first-round by in the SCT.

Corapi scored the only first-half goal in the 28th minute, then assisted two goals in the second half — including Renkin’s first goal in the 72nd minute. Ranney stayed within 1-0 past the midway point of the second half, but senior Rowen Joice added the first insurance goal in the 66th off a feed from Corapi.

Renkin converted a penalty kick in the 73rd and Joice scored his second goal in the final minute.

Holmdel 3, Donovan Catholic 0

Group B

Middletown South 2, No. 6 St. John Vianney 1

Junior Matteo Niglio scored a goal in each half, including the game-winner in the 75th minute as the Eagles (7-3-3) played the role of buzzkill by upending the high-riding Lancers (8-3).

Junior Shayan Katiraei scored the first-half goal for St. John Vianney, which was coming off a group-play win over CBA on Saturday — St. John Vianney’s first win over CBA in 12 years.

The winner of Group B will earn a first-round bye and Middletown South can now clinch that bye with a win or draw at home Friday vs. CBA. St. John Vianney can no longer clinch the first-round bye because a three-way tie in points would send the tiebreaker to goal-differential, in which CBA is guaranteed to top the Lancers.

No. 3 CBA 8, Monmouth 0

Senior Phil Bodenski assisted the first of two goals in the first half by classmate Nick Tesauro and also scored a goal as the Colts (10-4) routed the Falcons (5-5-2) to keep their hopes of a first-round bye in the SCT alive.

Tesauro opened the scoring off a Bodenski cross in the 10th minute and extended CBA’s lead to 3-0 with a left-footed finish in the 32nd. Junior James Brady scored the second CBA goal one minute earlier off a pass from classmate Devon Cale.

Bodenski scored in the first minute of the second half to push the Colts lead to 4-0 and senior Nick Vieira scored from the top of the box in the 43rd to shift CBA into cruise control.

Freshman Joe Guastella set up a goal by senior Brandon McDonough for a 6-0 lead in the 63rd, then scored his first varsity goal in the 66th to cap the scoring. Junior Nick Silva scored in the 65th for the seventh CBA goal.
