Shore 32, New Egypt 0

Senior quarterback Josh Moeller tossed two touchdown passes to senior tight end Braden Miller and senior running back Brendan O’Brien ran for two touchdowns to lead the Blue Devils (5-0, 4-0) to a shutout win over the Warriors (4-1, 4-1) that gives them sole possession of first place in the division.

Moeller and Miller broke a scoreless tie with a 9-yard scoring connection with 4:03 left in the first half. The combo hooked up again with 4:03 left in the third quarter on a 3-yard touchdown that put Shore up 13-0. Touchdown runs of 4 and 24 yards by O’Brien put Shore ahead 25-0 with 4:44 remaining in the game and junior Enzo Cagliostro returned a punt 55 yards for a touchdown with 2:50 left.

Shore has now recorded four straight shutouts and has allowed just seven points all season.

No. 1 Toms River North 41, Toms River South 0

Senior running back Mordecai Ford ran for a pair of scores and senior Nasir Jackson had a touchdown catch and a defensive touchdown to lead the Mariners (6-0) to a shutout victory over the Indians (3-3) in the latest edition of “The Civil War”.

Ford had touchdown runs of 19 and 1 yards and senior quarterback T.J. Valerio threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to senior Blaise Boland as the Mariners jumped out to a quick lead. Jackson returned a fumble 39 yards for a touchdown and then caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from Valerio. Sophomore Lucas Elias closed the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown run.

Toms River North has now won 32 straight games against public schools.

Valerio finished 9 of 11 passing for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Ford ran for 102 yards and two scores on 10 carries and Jackson caught three passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.

Sophomore Cole Garrison recorded a team-high 13 tackles, senior defensive back Mekai Morse made 11 tackles and forced and recovered a fumble, senior linebacker Blaise Boland had 11 tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss, and senior defensive Hathem Hooranyi had 7 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble.

 

No. 5 Brick Memorial 24, Southern 7

Junior quarterback Jason Lajara completed 12 of 20 passes for 251 yards and a touchdown and ran for 93 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries to power the Mustangs (5-1) to a victory over the Rams (4-2).

Junior wide receiver Nyzier Matthews caught three passes for 112 yards and a touchdown, including an 80-yard score, and returned an interception for a touchdown on defense. Junior wideout Nazeer Whittaker caught four passes for 62 yards and senior tight end Matt Hillin caught five passes for 77 yards. Sophomore kicker Jack Marotta added a field goal.

Mike Pappas led the Brick Memorial defense with 13 tackles and a fumble recovery, Ben Szuba and Elijah Webb had one sack each, and Erik Pedre and A.J. Ehrmantraut made seven tackles each.

 

No. 10 Middletown North 41, No. 9 St. John Vianney 22

Senior running back Shane Volante ran for 149 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries and senior Brian O’Donnell had a touchdown run and a touchdown catch as the Lions (5-0) went on the road and delivered a statement victory over the Lancers (3-3) to remain undefeated.

Middletown North jumped out to a 14-0 lead on touchdown runs by O’Donnell and sophomore Matt Belekno before St. John Vianney got on the board via a 65-yard touchdown run by junior quarterback Zach LaBarca. The teams traded scores in the second quarter with Middletown North finding the end zone on a 32-yard touchdown reception by O’Donnell on a screen pass and a 38-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Owen Robson to junior wide receiver Jack Viola. O’Donnell’s touchdown catch put the Lions up 21-6. Vianney drew closer on a 29-yard field goal by Brendan Allen but Middletown North responded on the touchdown pass from Robson to Viola. St. John Vianney got a lift at the end of the first half when LaBarca threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to senior wideout Jahmere James with 11 seconds remaining.

Middletown North led 28-16 at halftime and retained control by getting a defensive stop to begin the third quarter, then driving 97 yards in 10 plays to take a 34-16 lead on a 1-yard touchdown run by Volante. St. John Vianney cut into the Lions’ lead, 34-22, when sophomore running back Abdul Turay ripped off a 46-yard touchdown run on the final play of the third quarter. The running game of Middletown North was decisive from start to finish and polished off the win with a 64-yard scoring drive that ended on a 10-yard touchdown run by Volante with 5:42 left.

Robson threw for 174 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, while Viola caught five passes for 73 yards and a touchdown and O’Donnell had 57 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns on seven touches. Turay ran for 126 yards and a touchdown, and LaBarca threw for 130 yards with one touchdown and one interception and ran for 84 yards and a touchdown.

Middletown North’s defense held the Lancers to their lowest point total of the season and slowed down Turay enough to keep him from taking over the game. He had rushed for over 200 yards in three straight games and entered the week with 900 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground. Viola had a fumble recovery and junior defensive back Jovanni Fernandez had an interception to highlight a superb team defensive effort.

 

No. 12 Central 30, Barnegat 0

Senior quarterback Joe Vezzosi, senior wide receiver Royalty Riley and senior running back Nick Ruggiero led the Golden Eagles (6-0) to a dominant victory over the Bengals (3-3) to improve to 6-0.

Riley had a monster game with five catches for 106 yards and two touchdowns plus an interception return for a touchdown on defense. Vezzosi completed 7 of 14 passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns and Ruggiero ran for 148 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.

Senior Nnaemeka Amaechina and junior Zach Cramer tied for the team-high with 13 tackles. Cramer also recovered a fumble. Sophomore Zyshun Carroll also intercepted a pass and junior Diego Soto recorded two sacks.

 

Jackson Memorial 17, Middletown South 14

Senior Joe Muzzillo connected on a 33-yard field goal with under four minutes left to propel the Jaguars (3-3) past the Eagles (2-4) to snap a three-game losing streak.

Standout junior running back Jonah Glenn returned to the lineup after missing two games with an injury and ran for 69 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries and caught two passes for 29 yards. Senior quarterback Dennis Caswell also ran for a touchdown as the Jags rushed for 213 yards as a team. Senior wide receiver Eric Zebrowski caught four passes for 45 yards and ran for 39 yards on three carries.

Jackson’s defense played its best game of the season as it did not allow a point to Middletown South’s offense. The Eagles scored on a kick return touchdown and an interception return for a touchdown. Jacob Zapata recorded a team-high seven tackles, Aidan Chornobroff and Marcus Simmelkjaer had two tackles for loss each and Jio Kabiri recovered a fumble.

 

Brick 20, Jackson Liberty 14 (OT)

Justice Morgan scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in overtime to give the Dragons (3-2) a thrilling victory over the Lions (2-4).

 

 

Pinelands 33, Toms River East 7

Senior quarterback Ty Kline completed 11 of 15 passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns and senior running back Jaimin Parkinson ran for 145 yards to steer the Wildcats (3-2) to a win over the Raiders (1-4).

Anthony Bonds caught five passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns and Matt Davis caught three passes for 35 yards and a touchdown. Eric Kobilnyk ran for 74 yards and a touchdown on seven carries and Chase Martin added a short touchdown run. Heath Nelson had an interception on defense.

 

Red Bank 34, Lacey 6

Senior quarterback Quinn Niesz ran for a touchdown and threw a touchdown pass and senior Dean Goldberg scored a defensive touchdown as the Bucs (3-2) pulled away in the second half to defeat the winless Lions (0-5).

Niesz ran for a 10-yard touchdown and threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Jah’Mir Lane-Bailey. Goldberg, who is Red Bank’s nose guard, picked up a fumble and returned it 70 yards for a touchdown. Ari Fraser and Matt Huss also ran for touchdowns.

Neptune 47, Point Beach 13

Sophomore quarterback Caleb Brown threw for 106 yards and a touchdown, ran for 94 yards and a touchdown on seven carries and ran for a 2-point conversion as the Scarlet Fliers (3-2) overpowered the Garnet Gulls (3-2) for a divisional victory.

Jeremiah Montgomery ran for 106 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries and Daaron Lynch caught two passes for 106 yards and a touchdown. Mike MacLennan and Kingston Pinnock added rushing touchdowns.

MacLennan also had a strong game on defense with 10 tackles and a tackle for loss. Jaraiya Jean had 11 tackles with two tackles for loss and Malachi Matson posted 10 tackles with two for loss. Keon Johnson recorded a sack.

 

Nondivisional

No. 2 Rumson-Fair Haven 42, Manchester 7

Junior running back Kellen Murray ran for four touchdowns and senior quarterback Owen O’Toole threw a pair of touchdown passes to senior wide receiver Jordan Angstreich to lead the Bulldogs (5-0) past the Hawks (4-2) in a matchup of division leaders.

After a scoreless first quarter, Manchester took a 7-0 lead on a 16-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Aidan Lunn to senior wide receiver M.J. Goins. Rumson tied the score on a 7-yard run by Murray and then took a 14-7 halftime lead on Murray’s 14-yard touchdown run. Murray scored on runs of 7 and 2 yards and O’Toole and Angstreich connected on a 59-yard pass in the third quarter to break the game open. Rumson added a 42-yard touchdown from O’Toole to Angstreich in the fourth quarter.

Lunn completed 9 of 16 passes for 139 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions and rushed for 63 yards on 11 carries. Goins had two catches for 69 yards and a touchdown and senior running back Avery Phillips ran for 77 yards on eight carries. Junior defensive back Aidan Phillips-Frazee intercepted a pass and senior linebacker Dante Mortellite had a team-high eight tackles and a fumble recovery.

 

No. 4 Point Boro 40, Colts Neck 7

Sophomore quarterback Jake Clayton ran for 68 yards and a touchdown on just three carries and tossed two touchdown passes to senior slotback Colin Obser as the Panthers (4-2) rolled to a victory over the Cougars (0-6).

Senior fullback Dylan Reitmeyer ran for 70 yards and a touchdown on six carries, senior quarterback Mike Ollendorf ran for 55 yards and a touchdown and junior linebacker Brody Dapkins returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown. Sophomore slotback Nick Spanola added 70 yards rushing on four carries.

Senior defensive lineman Lou DiBiase had five tackles and one sack and senior defensive back Jacob Reitmeyer added six tackles to lead the Point Boro defense.

 

Howell 14, No. 6 Manalapan 6

 

Marlboro 22, Freehold Township 21

Max Luzio connected on an 18-yard field goal with 5.2 seconds left in regulation to lift the Mustangs (3-3) to a thrilling comeback win over the Patriots (4-2).

Freehold Township led 21-13 entering the fourth quarter before Marlboro pulled within two points on a touchdown run by senior running back Christian LaFonte. The Mustangs were stopped on the 2-point conversion attempt.

 

Manasquan 47, Ocean 14

Junior running back Dylan Lu ran for a touchdown and returned a kickoff for a touchdown, while junior quarterback Matt Antonucci and junior wideout JD Teza connected on a pair of touchdowns as the Warriors (3-3) pulled away from the Spartans (1-5) to snap a three-game losing streak.

Junior running back Ace Etienne ran for a touchdown to give Manasquan a 7-0 lead. Ocean answered with a touchdown before Antonucci tossed a fade to Teza for a score that put the Warriors up 13-7 at halftime.

Lu scored on a 25-yard touchdown run and later returned a kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown. Senior defensive back Matt Schneider returned an interception for a touchdown and sophomore running back Dax Klein scored his first career touchdown to cap the scoring. Klein is the son of the late Donny Klein, a Manasquan legend who is a Manasquan HS Hall of Famer and was an assistant coach for the Warriors’ football and lacrosse programs.

 

Freehold 49, Lakewood 34

Senior quarterback Dominic Romeo completed 10 of 17 passes and set career-highs with 266 yards passing and five touchdowns to lead the Colonials (2-4) to a high-scoring victory over the Piners (3-3).

Aidan Hamlin-Woolfolk caught four passes for 125 yards and two touchdowns, Qua’Mir Everett caught three passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns and Damier Lester caught two passes for 35 yards and a touchdown. Lester also returned a kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown. Chris Antelmi had 63 yards rushing and a touchdown on nine carries.

Romeo threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Lester, touchdown passes of 15 and 29 yards to Hamlin-Woolfolk, and scoring strikes of 9 and 73 yards to Everett.
