VOTE: Week 6 Broad Street Dough Co. Girls Soccer Player of the Week

Each week, Shore Sports Insider will give the fans of the Shore Conference a chance to pick the Player of the Week sponsored by Broad Street Dough Co.

Below, we have selected a player of the week from each of the seven Shore Conference divisions, plus three wild cards — all of whom are candidates in this week’s contest. Read about the 10 nominees from Week 6 (Oct. 7 through Oct. 13) and vote at the bottom of the post for the one that deserves to be the overall Girls Soccer Player of the Week. Vote once per hour until the poll closes Friday at 10 p.m. The winner will receive a $25 gift card courtesy of Broad Street Dough Co.

 

Week 6 (Oct. 7 to Oct. 13) Player of the Week Fan Voting 

Class A North

Julianna Fiore, Middletown South

The freshman goalie stepped up last week to help the Eagles win two division games and secure first place in Class A North. Fiore had six saves to start the week in a 2-1 victory over Trinity Hall and followed that with five saves in a 1-0 victory over Manalapan. 

 

Class A Central

Megan Farrell, Wall

Farrell scored the game-winner in overtime against division rival Rumson in a 2-1 victory. The victory secured first place in Class A Central for Wall. Farrell scored another goal in a 2-0 win over Colts Neck.

 

Class A South

Olivia Forlenza, Toms River North

Forlenza has been an anchor all season on the backline for Toms River North. Last week she helped the Mariners earn two more shutouts on the season with a 2-0 victory over cross town rival Toms River South and a 0-0 draw against Toms River East. With Jordyn Brown moving to midfield, Forlenza took control and kept the defense organized against East.

 

Class B North

Gabrielle Samaan, Holmdel

Samaan posted two shutouts last week and had seven saves against division rival Middletown North. The shutout against Middletown North pushed Holmdel into second place in Class B North. 

 

Class B Central

Isabella Geoghan, Raritan

Geoghan started the week with a hat trick against Ranney to clinch Class B Central for Raritan. She scored all the Rockets goals in a 3-1 victory. She ended the week with a goal and an assist against Matawan.

 

Class B South

Gracie Maurer, Manchester

Maurer scored five out of her seven goals this season last week. She had a hat trick against Donovan Catholic to start the week and ended the week with two goals against Barnegat. 

 

Class C South

Samantha Russell, Southern

Russell scored the game-winner against Barnegat in a 1-0 victory to lead Southern to the Class C South title. She followed that with a hat trick against Atlantic Tech in a non-conference win. 

 

Wildcards

Anna Martin, Trinity Hall

Martin posted three shutouts last week including one against Top 10 ranked Red Bank Catholic in a 2-0 victory. She finished with nine saves in that game and helped knock the Caseys out of first place in Class A North. She started the week with seven saves against Southern in a 0-0 draw. The tie clinched a spot in the Shore Conference Tournament for the Monarchs. 

 

Emma Christensen, Central Regional

Christensen has been the backbone of Central’s defense all season. Last week she helped the Golden Eagles post two shutouts with her communication with the defenders and freshman goalie Addison Frulio.  The first one came against division rival Brick Memorial and then against Toms River East. 

 

Isabella Santucci, Ocean

Santucci set the school record with five goals in a game against St. Rose. Her performance helped clinch a spot in the SCT for the Spartans.
