Shore Sports Insider Girls Soccer Top 10 for Oct. 14

The final Shore Sports Insider Girls Soccer Top 10 before we enter the postseason finally has a team that stayed in the No. 1 spot for the second straight week. Wall clinched the Class A Central division title with a win over rival Rumson-Fair Haven and will enter the Shore Conference Tournament as the top team. Trinity Hall cracks the rankings this week, which means every team in Class A North has been ranked in the Top 10 at some point this season.

 

Shore Sports Insider Girls Soccer Top 10 – Week 6

 

1. Wall (11-1-1) Last Week: No. 1

Wall clinched Class A Central with a comeback victory over Rumson last week. Senior Erynn Richey scored the equalizer on a free kick and Megan Farrell scored the game-winner in overtime. Wall will play at No. 2 Middletown South on Tuesday in the first round of the Shore Conference Tournament.

2. Middletown South (11-2-1) Last Week: No. 2

Middletown South won both of its Class A North games last week and got help from a Red Bank Catholic loss to clinch the division title. The Eagles defeated Trinity Hall 2-1 in overtime behind Kaleigh Kapler’s two goals and followed that with a 1-0 victory over Manalapan. Middletown South will host No. 1 Wall in the opening round of the Shore Conference Tournament on Tuesday.

3. Point Boro (9-1-2). Last Week: No. 4

In its first season in Class A South, Point Boro went undefeated and won the division title. Last week the Panthers finished division play with a 4-0 victory over Jackson Memorial. They suffered their first loss of the season, 1-0 to Chatham, in a tune-up game before the Shore Conference Tournament. Point Boro hosts Monmouth Regional in the opening round of the SCT. 

 

 

4. Lacey (14-1-1) Last Week: No. 6

Lacey will enter the Shore Conference Tournament with a six-game unbeaten streak. The Lions clinched the Class B South division championship with a win over Pinelands and secured a bye in the SCT with a 3-0 win over Howell. They will host the winner of Trinity Hall and Central in the second round. The Lions’ only defeat this season came against Central.

5. Rumson-Fair Haven (10-4). Last Week: No. 9

Rumson missed out on the Class A Central title after falling to No. 1 Wall in overtime. The Bulldogs rebounded with a division victory over St. John Vianney. Rumson has a bye in the first round of the Shore Conference Tournament and will host the winner of the Howell vs. Middletown North game on Tuesday. 

 

 

6. Central Regional (9-2-1). Last Week: No. 10

Central ended the regular season last week with two victories. They defeated division rival Brick Memorial to start the week and defeated Toms River East 3-0 to end the regular season. Central finished second in Class A South, only losing to Point Boro. Central hosts No. 8 Trinity Hall in the opening round of the Shore Conference Tournament. 

 

 

7. Freehold Township (7-6). Last Week: No. 3

Freehold Township started the week falling to district rival Manalapan 4-1 and rebounded with a 4-3 victory over Howell. Bucknell commit Gaby Parker set the all-time scoring record for Freehold Township and goalie Ashley Moore reached 300 career saves in the game. Freehold Township hosts Matawan in the first round of the Shore Conference Tournament on Tuesday.

8. Trinity Hall (8-4-3). Last Week: not ranked

Trinity Hall finally cracks the Top 10 rankings after coming so close in reset weeks. During the season the Monarchs lost three games against ranked opponents by one goal. Last week they defeated No. 5 Red Bank Catholic 2-0 to prevent the Caseys from winning at least a share of the division title. Trinity Hall travels to No. 6 Central in the opening round of the Shore Conference Tournament. 

 

 

9. Red Bank Catholic (9-4-1). Last Week: No. 5

The Caseys started the week with a win in double overtime against Jackson Memorial but fell to Trinity Hall to end the regular season. The defeat to Trinity Hall knocked RBC out of first place in Class A North. RBC hosts Red Bank Regional in the opening round of the Shore Conference Tournament on Tuesday under the lights at Count Basie Field.

10. Howell (9-4). Last Week: No. 7

The Rebels dropped two games last week to ranked opponents to end their regular season schedule. They lost to Lacey 3-0 in SCT Group play and fell to Freehold Township, 4-3, in a back-and-forth game. Howell then defeated Manasquan 4-2 in a Class A North game. The Rebels will host Middletown North in the opening round of the SCT on Tuesday.
