Shore Sports Insider Girls Soccer Week 1 Top 10 Rankings

 

1. Manalapan (1-0) – After a slow first half, Manalapan scored three second half goals to win their season opener against St. John Vianney (0-2). The Braves had three different goal scorers and Aryanna Lake earned the shutout in goal. Manalapan has a big Class A North showdown with No. 4 Red Bank Catholic (2-0) on Tuesday, and Thursday they travel to Raritan for a Shore Conference Tournament Group 2 match-up. 

2. Middletown South (1-0) – Middletown South scored a first half goal and held Rumson-Fair Haven (0-2) scoreless to win their opening game of the season. Rutgers commit Bea Tinoco scored the game winner off an assist from Riley Kapler. Tinoco only needs four more goals to set the all-time scoring record at Middletown South. The Eagles host Freehold Township (0-1-1) on Tuesday in a Class A North battle and on Thursday they travel to Holmdel (2-0) to play their first Shore Conference Tournament Group 4 game.

3. Central (1-0) – Central battled St. John Vianney (0-2) for 68 minutes until they scored what would be the game winner in their home opener. Brianna Daly was able to score off a pass from Emma Boturia in the box for the Golden Eagles. Sophomore Addison Frulio made four saves in the shutout. Central travels to Lacey on Tuesday in a Class A South game, and on Thursday they travel to Red Bank Regional to play their first Shore Conference Tournament Group 5 game.

4.Red Bank Catholic (2-0) – The Caseys had a great start to their season, as they outscored their opponents 7-0. Heidi Wierman recorded 15 saves in the two shutouts. Sophomore Grace Pauwels has had a fast start to the season with two assists against Rumson-Fair Haven (0-2) and one against Lawrence. Maryland commit Paige Foye has three goals to start the season for the Caseys. RBC will look to shake up the top of the rankings as they host No. 1 Manalapan (1-0) on Tuesday in an Class A North clash. They will also travel to St. Rose (0-2) to play a Shore Conference Tournament Group 1 game.

5. Wall (1-0) – Wall won their home opener against rival St. Rose (0-2) 6-0 to start the season. Megan Farrell and Sophia Koepping both scored two goals for the Knights and Bridget Petillo had two assists. Wall, who was in Class A Central last season, will play No. 7 Howell (1-0) in their first Class A North game on Tuesday. Wall will travel to Manchester (2-0) on Thursday to play in their first Shore Conference Tournament Group 6 game.

6. Trinity Hall (1-0) – Trinity Hall picked-up a nonconference victory in their home opener, beating Hightstown 5-0. Senior Emily Venezia returned from injury to combine for a shutout with Anna Martin. Caroline Ferguson and Kailyn Fitzgerald both scored a goal and assisted on another for the Monarchs. Trinity Hall will travel to Marlboro (1-0) in a Class A Central match-up. This game is an important game for both teams in the division. Trinity Hall travels to Middletown North (2-0) on Thursday in a Shore Conference Tournament Group 7 game and ends the week with a nonconference game at Robbinsville. 

7. Howell (1-0) – Sophomore Isabella Farinick showed the Shore Conference the impact she can make after missing last season due to injury. In the first game of her career, she scored two second half goals to help the Rebels win 3-1 over Southern (0-1), Junior Makenzie Memmolo scored the first half goal for Howell and added an assist in the second half. Leila Shaw made several key saves for Howell in net to help the Rebels hold on. Howell will travel to No. 5 Wall (1-0) on Tuesday in a Class A North game and they are on the road again on Thursday against Barnegat (3-1) in a Shore Conference Tournament Group 7 game.

8. Point Boro (0-0) – The defending Group 2 champions were the only top ten team idle in the opening week. Point Boro will host Brick Memorial (0-1) in a Class A South game on Tuesday. On Thursday, they will travel to Freehold Boro (2-1) in a Shore Conference Tournament Group 8 game.

9. Toms River South (1-0-1) – Toms River South battled previously ranked Freehold Township (0-1-1) to a 1-1 tie on opening night. Trailing 1-0 in the second half, Emma Turnbach scored the equalizer with 14:50 left in regulation. Turnbach scored her second goal of the season in a 3-0 win against Hopewell Valley on Saturday. Turnbach and Ava Knight both scored a goal and had an assist in the non-conference victory. Toms River South travels to No. 10 Jackson (1-0) on Tuesday in a Class A South match-up and travels to Colts Neck (2-0) to play a Shore Conference Tournament Group 4 game.

10. Jackson (1-0) – Jackson is the first previously unranked team to enter the top ten this season after they defeated Freehold Township (0-1-1) 3-2. The defending Central Jersey Group 4 champions started the season on the bubble but quickly changed that. Senior Alexa Berkley scored two second half goals to break a 1-1 halftime tie. Jackson travels to Ranney (1-0) on Monday and Toms River East (0-0) on Friday in Shore Conference Tournament Group 2 action. The Jaguars host No. 9 Toms River South (1-0-1) on Tuesday in a Class A South battle.
