Holiday Tournaments

 

Thomas Blewett, So., Middletown North

Blewett is 13-0 to start the season and won both the Mustang Classic and the Mike Dessino Invitational.

 

Conor Delaney, Sr., Rumson-Fair Haven

Delaney went from the No. 35 seed to a spot on the medal stand at the Best of the East, putting together a phenomenal tournament to place third at 215 pounds. A two-time state qualifier for the defending Group 2 champion Bulldogs, Delaney is 11-1 this season.

 

Lucas D’Elia, So., Brick

D’Elia is 9-1 so far this season, winning the 120-pound title at the Golden Eagle Classic and placing second at the Rumble in the Pines tournament.

 

Bobby Duffy, Jr., CBA

A two-time state qualifier, Duffy had an outstanding showing at the prestigious Powerade Tournament in western Pennsylvania to finish sixth at 133 pounds. He pinned last season’s 126-pound NJSIAA state champion Ryan DeGeorge of Delbarton and won 7-0 over Southern’s Bryce Manera, who was fourth in the state at 132 pounds last season.

 

Armando Herrera, Sr., Asbury Park

The Blue Bishops’ 120-pounder became the program’s all-time wins leader when he won his 60th career match. He is 8-0 this season and 60-29 for his career.

 

Anthony Knox, Sr., St. John Vianney

Knox won his third Beast of the East championship to start his highly-anticipated senior season where he is trying to become just the fifth wrestler in state history and first in Shore Conference history to win four state championships. He is 13-0 this season, 120-1 for his career, and has won 111 straight matches. The Cornell commit needs four wins to become St. John Vianney’s all-time wins leader.

 

James Lynch, Sr., Toms River East

Lynch was dominant in December with championships at the Sam Cali Battle for the Belt and the Ron Mazzola Memorial Tournament.  Last season’s state seventh-place finisher at heavyweight is 15-0 this season.

 

Armani McCann, Jr., Jackson Liberty

McCann defeated a pair of returning state qualifiers with victories over Ocean’s Dominic Volek and Mt. Olive’s Brandon Beres to win the 138-pound championship at the Mustang Classic.  He placed second at the Robin Leff Tournament. McCann is 10-1 this season with his only loss coming to Blair Academy’s Ellis Kirsch.

 

Ethan Michaels, Jr., Colts Neck

Last season’s Region 6 106-pound champion is 10-0 so far this season. He won the 1113-pound title at the TCNJ Pride Tournament and the Holmdel Christmas Tournament.

 

Michael O’Connor, Sr., Manasquan

The program’s all-time wins leader added to his sport in the record book by becoming the first Manasquan wrestler with 100 career wins. He is off to an 11-2 start, including a 9-7 victory over two-time state qualifier Tommy DiPietro Kingsway, 9-7, to win the Ron Mazzola Memorial Tournament.

 

Tim O’Rourke, Fr., Howell

O’Rourke has impressed to begin his high school career with an 8-0 record that includes the 215-pound title at the John & Betty Vogeding Tournament.

 

Nicolas Straniero, Sr., Central

Straniero won the 157-pound title at Central’s Golden Eagle Classic with a 6-4 win over Toms River South two-time region top-six finisher Caden Langan. Straniero is a returning region qualifier and 12-2 on the season.

 

Wyatt Stout, Sr., Southern

Stout won a barnburner over Camden Catholic’s Kage Jones, 9-7, to win the 157-pound title at Southern’s Robin Leff Tournament. Jones was last season’s 157-pound state runner-up and Stout is a two-time state top-six placewinner. Stout is 12-2 on the season.

 

Boomer Volek, Sr., Ocean

Volek is 11-1 this season with 144-pound titles at the Mustang Classic and the Wendy Pandy-Leh Invitational. Volek is a two-time Region 6 fifth-place finisher.

 

Ryan Walsh, Sr., Monmouth

The 132-pounder is having a strong start to his senior season with an 11-0 record and championships at the Garden State Classic and Rumble in the Pines tournaments.
