Shore Sports Insider Girls Basketball Week 3 Top 10 Rankings

1. St. John Vianney (8-2) Last Week: 2 – The Lancers are on a four game win streak going back to the Holiday Hoopfest. SJV defeated St. Mary’s (NY) on Saturday at the Garden State New Years Ball. The Lancers were scheduled to play Sidwell Friends (D.C.), but that was cancelled due to the weather. SJV won their first Class A Coastal game of the season, defeating No. 8 Rumson. SJV plays Blair on Sunday in the Boardwalk Showcase at Georgian Court University.
2. St. Rose (6-2) Last Week: 3 – St. Rose shook up the Shore Conference rankings by defeating top ranked RBC on Friday behind Jada Lynch’s career-high 40 points. The Purple Roses followed that with a win over Thrive Charter in the Garden State New Years Ball. St. Rose picked up their first win in Class A Central with a win over Neptune. St. Rose will host No. 6 Howell on Thursday and play Bayonne on Saturday.
3. Red Bank Catholic (5-3) Last Week: 1 – The Caseys dropped three games in a row before rebounding against No. 4 Red Bank Regional on Tuesday. RBC fell to St. Rose when they returned from the Viking Invitational, which was the first game they played against a Shore Conference opponent. Following their loss to Long Island Lutheran, RBC beat crosstown rival RBR, 64-29, to give them their first Class A Coastal win. RBC hosts Middletown South Wednesday and plays the No. 1 ranked team in New Jersey, Morris Catholic, on Sunday at Georgian Court University in the Boardwalk Showcase.
4. Red Bank Regional (6-1) Last Week: 4 – After winning six straight games, RBR fell to crosstown rival Red Bank Catholic on Tuesday. The Bucs had a week layoff, last playing on Dec. 30, when they won the WOBM Christmas Classic. RBR has a busy weekend ahead, playing against Notre Dame on Saturday in the Coaches vs. Cancer Showcase at Donovan Catholic. Sunday they will play No. 5 Manasquan in the Boardwalk Showcase at Georgian Court University.
5. Manasquan (6-2) Last Week: 5 – The Warriors fell to Chatham on Saturday, but rebounded with a victory in the Garden State New Years Ball against East New York Family Academy. Manasquan followed that with a convincing win against Jackson Memorial in their first Class A Central game. The Warrior defense held the Jaguars to four points in the second half. Manasquan will travel to Neptune on Friday and play No. 4 Red Bank Regional on Sunday at Georgian Court University in the Boardwalk Showcase.
6. Howell (7-0) Last Week: 6 – Howell is the final team in the Shore Conference to remain undefeated. The Rebels picked up two victories since winning the Blue Devil Holiday Tournament. Howell defeated rival Freehold Township on Saturday in a hard fought game. They followed that with their first Class A Central win against Wall. Howell will face their toughest opponent of the season on Thursday when they travel to No. 2 St. Rose.
7. Trinity Hall (6-2) Last Week: 7 – The Monarchs have won two straight games since losing in the finals of the Score at the Shore over the holiday break. Trinity Hall got revenge on Saturday from their loss in the final, defeating Pingry five days after falling to them. On Tuesday, they defeated Marlboro to give coach Matt McCarthy the 100th win of his career. Trinity Hall will host No. 10 Ranney on Thursday and play Holmdel on Saturday in the Coaches vs. Cancer Showcase at Donovan Catholic.
8. Rumson-Fair Haven (4-5) Last Week: 8 – After losing in the final of the WOBM Christmas Classic, Rumson rebounded with a non-conference win on the road against Ramapo. Three players scored in double-digits for the Bulldogs in the victory. Rumson lost their first Class A Coastal game against St. John Vianney, who moved to the No. 1 spot in the rankings this week. Rumson will host Holmdel in a division game on Thursday and will play No. 3 Red Bank Catholic and No. 4 Red Bank Regional next week.
9. Point Boro (6-1) Last Week: 9 – The Panthers have won three straight games by an average of 34.6 points a game. Point Boro defeated Brick Township for the second time this season and beat Jackson Liberty on Tuesday to win their first Class B Central game. Point Boro will host crosstown rival Point Beach on Friday and play No. 10 Ranney on Saturday in the Coaches vs. Cancer Showcase at Donovan Catholic.
10. Ranney (3-5) Last Week: Not Ranked – After losing its first five games to start the season, Ranney has won three straight games to return to the rankings. On Sunday, they defeated Medgar Evers (N.Y.) and Monday they won their first Class A North game of the season by defeating No. 10 Shore. Ranney can continue to move up the rankings in the Shore Conference with their next two games coming against ranked opponents. Thursday they travel to No. 7 Trinity Hall and Saturday they play No. 9 Point Boro in the Coaches vs. Cancer Showcase at Donovan Catholic.
