1. Point Boro (16-2-2). Last Week: No. 2
Point Boro moves back into the top spot of the rankings after advancing into the Central Jersey Group 2 semifinal. The Panthers rebounded after losing to Freehold Township in the Shore Conference Tournament final by defeating Bordentown in the first round, 6-0. The Panthers squeaked by rival Manasquan in the second round, 1-0. Senior Gabby Mellet headed in a corner kick by Abby Hannemann in the first half and held Manasquan to very few scoring chances to earn the shutout. Point Boro will host Delran in the semifinal.
2. Middletown South (15-4-1). Last Week: No. 5
Middletown South advanced into the North Jersey Section 2, Group 3 Tournament semifinal round after two lopsided victories. Middletown South moved into this sectional after playing the last four years in Central Jersey Group 3. The Eagles had five different goal scorers in the opening round against Matawan. They were able to do even better with seven goal scorers in a 9-0 second-round victory against Iselin Kennedy. Junior Bea Tinoco has five goals in the first two rounds. Middletown South will host No. 3 seed Summit on Monday in the semifinal round.
3. Wall (17-2-1). Last Week: No. 6
Wall remained busy after being eliminated in the opening round of the SCT, winning six straight games. They return to the Central Jersey Group 2 semifinal for the fourth straight year (Six if you count the COVID season). Wall defeated Monmouth in the opening round, 3-0, and hung on to defeat Allentown, 2-1, in the quarterfinal round. Senior Samantha Brett scored the first goal against Allentown and Sophia Koepping scored off an Erynn Richey corner kick. Richey also scored in the opening round on a corner kick. Wall will host No. 3 seed Cinnaminson on Monday in the semifinal round.
4. Freehold Township (12-7). Last Week: No. 1
Freehold Township was upset by Princeton in the first round of the Central Jersey Group 4 sectional tournament. The Patriots had a gap of eight days between games, last playing on Oct. 26 in the Shore Conference Tournament final. Princeton held Freehold Township scoreless for 100 minutes and was able to pull the upset winning the shootout 5-4. The senior class will graduate with three SCT titles and two Group 4 titles. Senior Gaby Parker became the Patriots’ all-time leading scorer and Ashley Moore finished her career with 326 saves. Parker will join teammate Danielle Howard, who had 19 goals and 24 assists over the last two seasons, at Bucknell next year.
5. Lacey (18-3-1). Last Week: No. 3
Lacey’s great season came to an end in a shootout in the South Jersey Group 3 quarterfinal round against Moorestown. Senior Reece Paget scored the Lions’ goal in the first half, but Moorestown was able to tie the game minutes before halftime. Moorestown outscored Lacey 3-1 in the shootout. The combination of Paget, Natalie McGovern and Mackenzie Brotherston finished the season with 59 goals on the season and finished their careers with 147 goals.
6. Manalapan (12-9-1). Last Week: not ranked
The Braves climbed back into the rankings this week for the third time this season. Manalapan will play in their fourth straight Central Jersey Group 4 semifinal game on Monday. They opened the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Marlboro and followed that with a 3-2 victory over No. 3 seed Howell. Junior Daniella Butash scored three goals over those two games to bring her total to 16 on the season. Manalapan will host the No. 7 seed Hunterdon Central on Monday in the semifinal round.
7. Howell (13-6). Last Week: No. 4
Howell’s season came to an end last week with a loss to rival Manalapan in the quarterfinal round of Central Jersey Group 4. The Rebels did not go down without a fight, losing 3-2. Howell defeated Sayreville in the opening round, 7-0. Senior Allison Nase scored three goals in the first two rounds and finished the season with 11 goals. Every year Howell graduates key players from their roster, but always has players ready to step into those roles. Next year will be no different with Nase, Gabrielle Snowden, Madelyn Roberto, Samantha Gold and Ashley Smith graduating.
8. Central (16-3-1). Last Week: No. 7
Central narrowly escaped the first round of South Jersey Group 4 with a 1-0 victory over No. 16 seed Vineland. Central was able to hang on and shut out Vineland after junior Nicole Kangas scored the game’s lone goal in the first half. The Golden Eagles got goals from Shelby Parks and Leah DiCillo to defeat Williamstown 2-1 in the second round. Central will host the No. 4 seed Kingsway on Monday in the semifinal round of SJG4.
9. Brick Memorial (10-7-1). Last Week: No. 10
Brick Memorial returns to the Central Jersey Group 3 semifinal round for the fourth straight year after defeating Steinert, 2-1. Senior Brooke DeAlmeida, who was injured at the beginning of the season, is returning to form and scored the first goal of the game for the Mustangs. Brick Memorial will host rival Jackson Memorial on Monday in the semifinal round.
10. Red Bank Catholic (11-7-2). Last Week: not ranked
The Caseys return to the rankings and advanced into the South Jersey Non-Public A semifinal round with a 2-1 overtime win over St. John Vianney. SJV took the lead midway through the first half, but RBC responded three minutes later to tie the game. Freshman Lexi Sinatra, who scored the equalizer, then scored the game-winner just 26 seconds into overtime for the Caseys. RBC will travel to Paul VI on Monday to play in the SJNPA semifinal round.
