Senior pitcher Madison McDougall recorded 10 strikeouts, allowed only two hits and two walks, and batted 2-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks, and three runs, while senior SS Gabby Gonzalez crushed a grand slam, as the Lancers (30-0) dominated the Lady Lions (29-3) to capture the program’s tenth state championship and complete the second undefeated season in program history.
The Lancers struck first in the bottom of the 1st inning on an RBI double to left field from sophomore catcher Olivia Lombardi, followed by a ground ball RBI from freshman Olivia Haslacher.
St. John Vianney added a third run in the 3rd inning on a solo home run to center field from Madison McDougall.
The Lancers created separation in the 6th inning. Junior 3B Brynn Utter hit an RBI single to right field to make it 4-0. Two batters later, Gonzalez crushed a grand slam to center field, scoring freshman RF Peyton McDougall, Utter, and Madison McDougall.
In the 6th inning, Peyton McDougall reached on an error by the shortstop that scored sophomore 1B Lexie Csontos. Utter ended the game via the mercy rule on an RBI single to center field.
