Shore Conference Tournament Player of the Week nominees

10/14 to 10/26

Ashley Moore, Sr., GK, Freehold Township

Moore posted three shutouts in the Shore Conference Tournament to help lead Freehold Township to its third title in her four years in goal. She made six saves, including hitting a tough shot in the second half over the crossbar, when the Patriots shut out Point Boro, 1-0, in the championship game. In the semifinal round, Moore made seven saves in a 2-1 victory over Lacey. She posted a shutout against division rival and No. 1-ranked Middletown South in the quarterfinal round, finishing with five saves.

Ava Schmidt, Jr., GK, Lacey

Schmidt’s performance in goal helped Lacey reach the SCT semifinals as she averaged double-digit saves in all three of the Lions’ games. In the second round, she made 12 saves and posted a shutout against Central. She followed that with 16 saves in a double-overtime victory against Manalapan. In the semifinals, she made 18 saves and kept Lacey in the game when trailing 2-0 against eventual champions Freehold Township.

Angelina DeCesare, Sr., F, Toms River North

DeCesare played an important role for the Mariners on their way to the SCT quarterfinals. In the opening round against Point Beach, she had an assist in a 2-1 victory, and in the second round, she scored the game-winner in overtime against division rival Jackson Memorial.

Samantha Gold, Sr., B, Howell

Howell fell just short of advancing to its third straight SCT final in a 1-0 overtime loss to Point Boro. The Rebels’ defense played an important part in their run to the semifinal round and Gold has played an important role the last two seasons and was one of the leaders of the backline. She helped Howell post two shutouts in the first two rounds of the SCT. They defeated Middletown North 1-0 in the opening round and Rumson-Fair Haven 2-0 in the second round. Even with all the injuries to Howell’s backline, Gold was able to keep the defense organized throughout the tournament. In the semifinal game against No. 2 Point Boro, she helped keep them shut out for 92 minutes until the Panthers scored the game-winner on a set piece.

Gabby Mellet, Sr., B, Point Boro

Mellet not only is the anchor of the Point Boro defense, but she was the hero in the semifinal game by scoring the game-winnning goal against Howell in double overtime. In the opening round, she had a goal and an assist to help Point Boro defeat Monmouth, 5-1. Mellet led the backline against Red Bank Catholic in the second round, holding Caseys’ standout Paige Foye to just one goal. In the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds she helped the Panthers earn their 10th and 11th shutouts of the season.

Kaia Abbatiello, Sr., F, Ocean Township

Abbatiello had one of the biggest assists in the SCT. In the opening round, she found Mia Fiorentino with 15 seconds left to score the game’s lone goal and defeat Toms River East 1-0. In the quarterfinal round, she assisted the Spartans’ only goal to Isabella Santucci in a 3-1 defeat to Howell.

Jordyn Bauer, So., GK, Marlboro

Bauer made several big saves in 100 minutes of play during the opening round game against Manasquan, finishing with 15 saves.  Her play allowed the Mustangs to win the game in penalty kicks where she saved Manasquan’s first shot and then scored a goal on her penalty kick. She followed that with 18 saves against Ocean. She kept the Spartans scoreless for over 100 minutes of play, but Marlboro lost in the shootout.

Daniella Butash, Jr., M, Manalapan

Butash finished the SCT with two goals and one assist, but her play against No. 4 Lacey made her one of the best performers in the tournament. With 3:01 left in regulation, Butash scored the equalizer to help Manalapan send the game into overtime after trailing 2-0 in the first half. She also assisted Manalapan’s first goal in the closing minutes of the first half to make the game 2-1. In the second round, she scored the equalizer in the second half against St. John Vianney.
