Jan. 13 to Jan. 19
Conor Delaney, Sr., 215, Rumson-Fair Haven
-Bumped up to heavyweight and scored a 9-5 win over Brick Memorial two-time state qualifier Ben Szuba when the No. 4 Bulldogs won 38-28 over the No. 6 Mustangs in a Class A Division match. He win by fall during Rumson’s win over North Hunterdon in a state-ranked matchup.
Trey DeMeo, Sr., 144/150, Barnegat
-Went 3-0 with three pins, including a walk-off pin that completed the Bengals’ rally from a 17-point deficit to defeat Pinelands, 42-41.
Mike Devivi, Sr., 190, Toms River South
-Won by fall in the second-to-last bout to give the undefeated Indians a 42-35 win over Hammonton. He was 4-0 with three pins during the week.
Alihan Keidibayev, So., 132, Raritan
-Went 4-0 with two pins, a technical fall, and a major decision. His win by major decision in the final bout clinched the Rockets’ 41-32 win over Jackson Memorial.
Asher Martinez, Sr., 150, Holmdel
-Won the Buc Classic as the No. 3 seed and defeat the top two seeds in the semifinals and final, respectively.
Michael O’Connor, Sr., 150, Manasquan
-The Warriors’ returning state qualifier’s 3-0 week including a win by major decision over Point Beach returning region qualifier Jude Bowers.
Tyler Palumbo, Jr., 215, CBA
-In his first match back after sitting out 30 days per the NJSIAA transfer rule, Palumbo, a returning state qualifier, delivered a walk-off pin to give the then-No. 2 Colts an epic 30-29 win over No. 1 St. John Vianney in a match they were trailing 29-9 with four bouts left. He then finished sixth at the powerful Escape the Rock Tournament.
Shawn Retta, Jr., 190, Keansburg
-Went 5-0 with three pins and won the Buc Classic 190-pound title.
Garrett Scott, Jr., 175, Brick Memorial
-His first two wins of the season came by fall, including a key pin in a tossup bout during the Mustangs 39-20 win over Lacey in a matchup of Group 3 contenders.
Lucas Sessa, Sr., 113, Red Bank
-Won the Buc Classic in his home gym as the No. 5 seed, defeating the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 seeds en route to the championship.
Tyler Taylor, Sr., 190, Long Branch
-Went 6-0 individually with Long Branch going 4-2 and placing fifth at the Jack Welch Duals featuring Delbarton, St. John Vianney and Delsea.
Cole Torres, So., 175, Shore
-Won the Buc Classic title to cap a week where he went 6-0 with five pins.
Dominic Volek, So., 138, Ocean
-A returning state qualifier, Volek had a 5-0 week that included a 12-8 win over DePaul region medalist Isaias Hernandez. His victory during a match with North Hunterdon helped Ocean earn a win by criteria over the state-ranked Lions.
Ryan Willi, Jr., 165, Middletown South
-Came through with a clutch 5-3 decision over Wall sophomore returning region qualifier Jeremy Marsella when the Eagles scored a 32-31 victory. Willi was 3-0 on the week with his two other victories coming by fall.
Jake Zaltsman, Sr., 144, St. John Vianney
-Eanred his 100th career victory with a 6-0 week to become the 14th wrestler in program history with 100 wins. Zaltsman was seventh in the state at 138 pounds last season.
