Senior quarterback Owen O’Toole completed 17 of 23 passes for 310 yards and two touchdowns and junior running back Kellen Murray ran for 50 yards and three touchdowns as the Bulldogs (2-0, 1-0) rolled to a victory over the Mustangs (1-2, 0-1) in their division opener.
Murray had touchdown runs of 19, 2 and 10 yards and O’Toole tossed a 7-yard touchdown pass to senior Nick Thomas and a 6-yard touchdown pass to senior Jordan Angstreich. Thomas caught six passes for 112 yards and Angstreich caught six passes for 85 yards. Senior Nic Economou had four receptions for 72 yards and sophomore Cole Spoonire had a 41-yard reception.
Class A South
No. 1 Toms River North 54, No. 8 Jackson Memorial 10
Senior quarterback T.J. Valerio completed 8 of 8 passes for 220 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for two touchdowns, and senior wide receiver Cam Thomas caught four passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns and also returned a punt 50 yards for a touchdown as the top-ranked Mariners (3-0, 1-0) overpowered the Jaguars (2-1, 0-1) for their 29th straight victory over public schools.
Thomas had a highlight-reel 51-yard touchdown reception, followed it up with a punt return touchdown, and then hauled in a 26-yard touchdown pass from Valerio. Senior wideout Nasir Jackson caught a 20-yard touchdown pass and Valerio added touchdown runs of 1 and 8 yards when the Mariners built a 48-3 halftime lead. Senior running back Mordecai Ford added a 19-yard touchdown run that put Toms River North up 7-0 early in the game.
The Mariners’ defense yielded a big play early when Jackson Memorial junior Jonah Glenn broke free for a 76-yard run, but Thomas was able to chase him down and tackle him at the Toms River North 4-yard line. The Mariners’ defense held Jackson to a 22-yard field goal by senior Joe Muzzillo and the starting unit was locked in the rest of the way. Jackson had an interception on the game’s first play to set up North’s first touchdown, senior linebacker Eddie Slosky had a strip-sack that senior defensive lineman Hathem Hooranyi recovered near midfield, and Slosky and senior linebacker Blaise Boland combined on another strip-sack that led to a touchdown.
Jackson got into the end zone in the third quarter when senior wide receiver Eric Zebrowski took a quick screen from senior quarterback Dennis Caswell and turned it into an 81-yard touchdown.
No. 6 Point Boro 30, No. 4 Donovan Catholic 14
Senior fullback Dylan Reitmeyer ran for 72 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries, sophomore quarterback Jake Clayton ran for a touchdown and kicked a 32-yard field goal and sophomore Nick Spanola returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown as the Panthers (2-1, 1-0) scored 23 unanswered points in the second half to take down the Griffins (0-2, 0-1).
Following Spanola’s kick return touchdown to open the game, Donovan responded to take a 14-7 halftime lead on a pair of rushing touchdowns by sophomore Gavin Nascimento. The Panthers took the lead back in the third quarter on touchdown runs by Reitmeyer and Clayton and then extended their advantage to 23-14 when a forced fumble by Reitmeyer was recovered by senior linebacker Colin Obser, leading to Clayton’s field goal. An interception by Spanola led to Reitmeyer’s second touchdown run with 4:15 left.
Reitmeyer finished with 15 tackles and a forced fumble, Obser had 10 tackles and a fumble recovery, senior defensive lineman Tanner Hynes recorded eight tackles and senior defensive lineman Paul Hagenmeyer made seven tackles. Clayton finished with 51 yards rushing and a touchdown on 13 carries and Spanola ran for 61 yards on five carries in addition to his kick return touchdown and interception.
Donovan Catholic senior wide receiver Michael Thomas III, who is committed to Rutgers, did not dress.
No. 5 Brick Memorial 34, No. 11 Howell 14
Junior quarterback Jason Lajara accounted for five touchdowns as the Mustangs (3-0, 1-0) built a 27-0 halftime lead and rolled to a victory over the Rebels (1-1, 0-1) that gave head coach Walt Currie his 100th career win.
Lajara ran for two touchdowns, threw two touchdown passes to sophomore Shawn Fowler and tossed another to junior wideout Nyzier Matthews.
Class B North
Freehold Township 20, Ocean 14 (OT)
Senior quarterback Nick Cardone ran for a 1-yard touchdown to give the Patriots (2-1, 1-0) a walk-off win over the Spartans (1-2, 0-2).
Middletown North 14, Matawan 0
Senior running back Shane Volante ran for a pair of touchdowns and the Middletown North defense pitched a shutout to send the Lions (2-0, 1-0) to a victory over the Huskies (0-3, 0-1.)
Class B South
Southern 24, Toms River South 8
Sophomore Chris Raub caught a pair of touchdown passes from Cooper Dempsey and Southern’s defense put together another shutdown performance to lead the Rams (3-0, 1-0) past the Indians (1-2, 0-1).
Sophomore running back Levi Foote ran for a touchdown and senior Keegan Foote kicked a field goal and ran for a 2-point conversion. Southern is now 3-0 for the first time since 2021.
Brick 35, Lacey 7
Junior quarterback James Hirtes ran for two touchdowns and senior linebacker Sean Savannah returned an interception for a touchdown when the Dragons (1-1, 1-0) stormed past the Lions (0-2, 0-1) to give Jay Graber his first win as Brick head coach. Senior Jayden Johnson also ran for a touchdown on the game’s opening drive.
Central 28, Toms River East 7
Senior running back Nick Ruggiero ran for three touchdowns and senior quarterback Joe Vezzosi threw a touchdown pass to senior Sean Tunney as the Golden Eagles (3-0, 1-0) pulled away from the Raiders (1-2, 0-1) to start 3-0 for the first time since 2021.
Class C North
No. 9 St. John Vianney 33, No. 7 Holmdel 19
Sophomore running back Abdul Turay ran for a career-high 223 yards and four touchdowns on 15 carries as the Lancers (3-0, 1-0) opened a big lead and held off a late push to defeat the Hornets (2-1, 0-1).
Turay had touchdown runs of 51, 3, 55 and 21 yards and also had four receptions for 64 yards to give him 287 yards from scrimmage. Junior quarterback Zach LaBarca tossed a 15-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Brayden Delavega and finished 14 of 19 for 161 yards plus 69 yards rushing on eight carries.
Holmdel junior quarterback Jack Cannon ran for 151 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries and completed 20 of 29 passes for 218 yards with a late 10-yard touchdown pass to Matt Scheinman along with one interception.
No. 11 Wall 28, Raritan 13
Sophomore quarterback Franny Scaramellino threw three touchdown passes and ran for another as the Crimson Knights (3-0, 1-0) remained unbeaten pushing past the Rockets (0-2, 0-1).
Scaramellino ran for a 13-yard touchdown to give Wall a 7-0 lead after the first quarter. Raritan tied the score but the Crimson Knights went back ahead for good when junior wide receiver Heath Reinhardt scored on a 30-yard catch and run from Scaramellino. After Raritan cut Wall’s lead to 14-13, the Knights put together a two-play, 78-yard scoring drive with Scaramellino hitting senior wideout Derrick Boss for consecutive 39-yard receptions, the second of which put Wall up 21-13 at halftime.
Scaramellino added a 6-yard touchdown pass to junior Justin Davis in the fourth quarter.
Class C South
Manchester 30, Pinelands 26
Senior quarterback Aidan Lunn led a game-winning 65-yard drive in the final 41 seconds and scored the go-ahead 8-yard touchdown run with eight seconds left as the Hawks (2-1, 1-0) won a barnburner over the Wildcats (0-2, 0-1).
Pinelands had taken a 26-23 lead with 42 seconds left.
Lunn, who missed Manchester’s 26-0 loss to Southern last week with an injury, returned to throw touchdown passes to senior wide receivers M.J. Goins and Dom Rekus in addition to his game-winning touchdown run. Goins also ran for a touchdown and Ian Spicer kicked a 35-yard field goal.
Barnegat 42, Jackson Liberty 14
Junior quarterback Jack Haviland tossed three touchdown passes and senior Johnnel Johnson ran for two touchdowns as the Bengals (2-1, 1-0) posted a second straight 40-point game to down the Lions (1-2, 0-1).
Haviland threw a 75-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Todd Muhammad, a 23-yard touchdown pass to senior David Gonzalez and a 10-yard touchdown pass to senior tight end Cole Toddings. Johnson had a pair of 2-yard touchdown runs and senior running back Myquan Rush-Esdaile ran for a 1-yard score.
Mason Ciccariello and Aidan Kelly each threw a touchdown pass for Jackson Liberty.
Lakewood 40, Monmouth 13
Senior quarterback Rahmel Anderson ran for 315 yards and five touchdowns to eclipse the 3,000-yard mark for his career and lead the Piners (3-0, 1-0) past the Falcons (0-3, 0-1).
Anderson has rushed for over 300 yards in all three games this season and has 921 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Senior quarterback Frankie Williams threw three touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the Caseys (1-2, 1-0) to a runaway victory over the Green Wave (0-3, 0-1) to snap their two-game slide to open the season.
Williams ran for a 3-yard touchdown and tossed a 19-yard touchdown pass to sophomore running back Jordan Mosenthine, a touchdown pass to sophomore wideout Chris Gibson and a touchdown to junior wide receiver Daniel Zabora. Mosenthine also ran for a touchdown.

Senior quarterback Quinn Niesz threw two touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Bucs (2-1, 1-1) past the Colonials (1-2, 0-1).
Niesz ran for a 1-yard touchdown, threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Ari Fraser and tossed a 20-yard touchdown pass to senior wideout Jermaine Rose. Senior running back Kashta Ally had a 20-yard touchdown run and junior quarterback Jag Gardner added a 30-yard touchdown run.
Senior quarterback Jayshawn Wiggs threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Damier Lester for Freehold.
Class C North
Manalapan 35, No. 12 Manasquan 7
Junior running back A’shere Woolfolk ran for 77 yards and three touchdowns as part of a 255-yard team rushing performance that powered the Braves (1-2, 1-0) to a critical victory over the Warriors (2-1, 0-1).
Senior Vin DeFillippo ran for 50 yards and a touchdown, sophomore Ethan Fogelstrom ran for 31 yards and a touchdown and sophomore Nicky Palmieri ran for 58 yards on eight carries.
Manasquan’s touchdown came on a 14-yard pass from junior quarterback Matt Antonucci to junior wide receiver J.D. Teza. Junior running back Ace Etienne ran for 57 yards on 14 carries.
