No. 2 Rumson-Fair Haven 35, Long Branch 0
Senior quarterback Owen O’Toole completed 16 of 19 passes for 189 yards and three touchdowns while junior running back Kellen Murray and senior wide receiver Jordan Angstreich had two touchdowns each to lead the unbeaten Bulldogs (3-0, 2-0) to a shutout victory over the Green Wave (0-4, 0-2).
Murray ran for 93 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries with scoring runs of 36 and 8 yards. Angstreich caught eight passes for 89 yards and hauled in a pair of 5-yard touchdown receptions. Senior wide receiver Nick Thomas caught three passes for 55 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown.
Rumson led 35-0 at halftime.
Marlboro 3, No. 11 Middletown South 0
Junior Max Luzio connected on a 22-yard field goal with 7:33 left in regulation for the only points as the Mustangs (2-2, 1-2) put together a defensive masterpiece to defeat the Eagles (2-2, 1-1) for what is believed to be the first time in program history.
Junior defensive lineman Alex LaQuinta intercepted a screen pass with under four minutes left to help preserve the victory.
Class A South
No. 1 Toms River North 35, No. 4 Brick Memorial 6
Senior quarterback T.J. Valerio ran for 112 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries and threw for 93 yards and a score while the Toms River North defense allowed just 136 yards to send the top-ranked Mariners (4-0, 2-0) to an emphatic victory over the Mustangs (3-1, 1-1).
Senior running back Mordecai Ford ran for 94 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries and caught a 19-yard touchdown pass. Senior defensive back Cam Thomas returned an interception 31 yards for a touchdown and sophomore Cole Garrison returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown. Senior Nasir Jackson also had an interception.
Junior quarterback Jason Lajara ran for a 5-yard touchdown for Brick Memorial.
No. 5 Point Boro 34, No. 8 Jackson Memorial 24
Senior fullback Dylan Reitmeyer ran for 144 yards and two touchdowns and sophomore quarterback Jake Clayton ran for 109 yards and two touchdowns and threw a touchdown to senior tight end Nick Albanese to send the Panthers (3-1, 2-0) past the Jaguars (2-2, 0-2) for their second straight division win.
Reitmeyer scored on runs of 13 and 2 yards and Clayton had a 35-yard touchdown run to open the game and a 3-yard touchdown run to pad Point Boro’s lead in the fourth quarter. On his touchdown pass, he connected with Albanese on a 28-yard score for Albanese’s first career touchdown.

Senior two-way lineman Lou DiBiase made his season debut for Point Boro and finished with a sack and multiple tackles for loss. Sophomore Nick Spanola added an interception that led to a touchdown.
Jackson Memorial standout junior running back Jonah Glenn did not play. Jaguars head coach Vin Mistretta said he is week-to-week and they are hopeful he will return to the lineup in Week 4. Senior wide receiver Eric Zebrowski caught six passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns, hauling in scoring passes of 36 and 28 yards from senior quarterback Dennis Caswell. Senior kicker Joe Muzzillo kicked a 32-yard field goal and Caswell threw for 200 yards and two scores and ran for a 9-yard touchdown.
Point Boro lead 20-7 at halftime and held a 34-17 lead before Jackson scored in the final minute.
No. 9 Donovan Catholic 13, Howell 6
Senior Luke Vernieri ran for a 7-yard touchdown and senior wide receiver Michael Thomas III ran for a 25-yard touchdown to lead the Griffins (1-2, 1-1) past the Rebels (1-2, 0-2) for their first win of the season.
Senior running back Juan DeJesus had a 3-yard touchdown run for Howell.
Class B North
Freehold Township 24, Red Bank 22
Junior kicker James Russo nailed a walk-off 22-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Patriots (3-1, 2-0) to a thrilling victory over the Bucs (2-2, 1-2) that kept them tied for first in the division.
The winning kick was attempted three times. First, the play was whistled dead before the snap. The second attempt was blocked by Red Bank but a penalty on the Bucs granted Freehold Township a third attempt. Russo’s third kick split the uprights.
Freehold Township senior quarterback Nick Cardone completed 23 of 39 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns to become the Patriots’ all-time leading passer with 4,453 career yards, breaking the previous mark of 4,216 held by Jack O’Brien (2013-2015). Cardone also holds program records for career touchdown passes (44) and completions (329).
Senior wide receiver Noah Cancela had another big game with 11 receptions for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore wideout Jake Schutzel caught six passes for 72 yards and a touchdown.
Senior linebacker Jake Minniear recorded 10 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and a fumble recovery and junior linebacker Johnathan Kokotis made 10 tackles with two tackles for loss and one sack to lead Freehold Township’s defense.
Middletown North 24, Ocean 7
Senior running back Shane Volante, sophomore running back Matt Belenko and senior wideout Brian O’Donnell ran for touchdowns and Jack Viola kicked a 22-yard field goal to send the Lions (3-0, 2-0) to a victory over the Spartans (1-3, 1-2).
Volante rushed for 161 yards and a 7-yard touchdown on 20 carries and Balenko ran for 97 yards on eight carries and scored on a 25-yard run. O’Donnell’s lone carry went for a 2-yard touchdown and he caught three passes for a team-high 63 yards. Joey Grasso caught five passes for 50 yards and had a 2-point conversion catch, and junior quarterback Owen Robson completed 14 of 24 passes for 167 yards.
It is the third straight game Middletown North’s first-string defense did not allow a touchdown. Ocean scored on a fumble return touchdown late in the game. Senior defensive back T.J. Rey intercepted two passes and Ryan Clark also pulled down an interception.
Class B South
Southern 42, Toms River East 0
Toms River South 27, Brick 21
Senior running back Jake Henehan ran for 176 yards and three touchdowns and senior quarterback Gio Morales-Torres ran for 107 yards and a touchdown as the Indians (2-2, 1-1) outlasted the Dragons (1-2, 1-1) in the latest matchup between longtime rivals.
Morales also completed 6 of 8 passes for 63 yards. Danny Pierson intercepted a pass on defense and the Indians also received standout performances from defensive lineman Saviaghn Shephard, linebacker JJ Geremia and defensive back Kavon Metellus.
Class C North
No. 7 Wall 36, No. 6 St. John Vianney 26
Senior outside linebacker Joe Vaccaro returned a fumble 90 yards for a touchdown with one minute left in regulation to seal a dramatic victory for the Crimson Knights (4-0, 2-0) in a battle of unbeaten against the Lancers (3-1, 1-1).
Wall led 16-0 in the first half before St. John Vianney stormed back to take a 26-22 lead in the fourth quarter. Wall re-took the lead, 29-26, when senior wideout Tony Credle took a swing pass and turned it into a 58-yard touchdown with 5:24 left.
Wall came up with a fourth down stop at its own 41 with 2:34 left and had the chance to close out the game with a first down, but St. John Vianney returned the favor to force a punt. The ensuing snap sailed over punter Heath Reinhardt’s head and toward the end zone, and in his haste to escape danger he tried a desperation pass that was intercepted at the Wall 7-yard line.
Wall held on first and second down to bring up third-and-goal from the 5 where Vaccaro turned a potentially devastating loss into a memorable victory.
Reinhardt opened the scoring with a 25-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter and then caught a 55-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Franny Scramellino early in the second quarter to put Wall ahead, 14-0. A safety on a punt snap that went out of the end zone made it 16-0 less than two minutes later.
A 1-yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Abdul Turay got St. John Vianney on the board to make it 17-6 but Wall answered when senior Mason Adam returned the kickoff for a touchdown with the help of Luke Davis. The ball was punched out around the 3-yard line and bounced into the end zone where Davis punched on it for six.
St. John Vianney closed the gap to 22-14 when junior quarterback Zach LaBarca connected with Adam Urs on a touchdown and then tossed the 2-point conversion pass to Nico Aquilone. A blocked punt led to a 37-yard touchdown run by Turay but the two-point attempt was unsuccessful, leaving Wall ahead, 22-20, with 6:01 left in the third quarter. The Lancers took the lead on a 7-yard touchdown run by Turay.
No. 10 Holmdel 41, Manasquan 0
Junior quarterback Jack Cannon completed 13 of 14 passes for 225 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 53 yards and a touchdown to power the Hornets (3-1, 1-1) to a dominant victory over the Warriors (2-2, 0-2).
Frankie Serini caught six passes for 78 yards and two touchdowns and senior running back Matt Iulo ran for 60 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries and caught four passes for 40 yards and a touchdown. Michael Todisco added two catches for 63 yards and Matt Scheinman had a 16-yard touchdown catch.
No. 12 Manalapan 27, Raritan 0
Senior quarterback Ryan Dougherty threw two touchdown passes to senior tight end Anthony Hammel and sophomore running back Nicky Palmieri ran for a pair of scores to lead the Braves (2-2, 2-0) past the Rockets (0-3, 0-2).
Hammel gave Manalapan a 7-0 lead when he caught a 53-yard touchdown pass from Dougherty with 9:26 left in the first quarter. The lead grew to 14-0 three minutes later when Palmieri broke off a 62-yard touchdown run. Dougherty then found Hammel for a 30-yard touchdown pass with 1:08 left in the first half for a 21-0 advantage.,
Palmieri capped the scoring with a 3-yard touchdown run with 9:10 left in the game.
Class C South
Manchester 15, Jackson Liberty 9
Senior quarterback Aidan Lunn threw a 70-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver M.J. Goins with 4:30 left and scrambled for a 15-yard touchdown run with 1:38 remaining as the Hawks (3-1, 2-0) rallied from a 9-0 deficit to defeat the Lions (1-3, 0-2) and remain tied atop the division standings.
On the g0-ahead drive, Lunn connected with Goins for a 50-yard pass down to the Jackson Liberty 15-yard line. On his touchdown run, Lunn initially rolled to his right while looking downfield before tucking the ball and cutting back toward the visiting sideline. He then cut it back to the middle of the field and made a defender miss at the 5-yard line. Imere Smith then caught a 2-point conversion pass from Lunn to give the Hawks a six-point lead.
Pinelands 42, Lakewood 16
Senior quarterback Ty Kline threw for 220 yards and two touchdowns and senior running back Jaimin Parkinson ran for 120 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Wildcats (1-2, 1-1) past the previously undefeated Piners (3-1, 1-1).
Kline tossed a 44-yard touchdown pass to Matt Davis on a Hail Mary to end the first half and threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Dom Colosi in the third quarter. Junior running back Eric Kobilnyk ran for a 39-yard touchdown in the second quarter and freshman R.J. Clark scored his first career touchdown with a 3-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Lakewood senior quarterback Rahmel Anderson ran for two touchdowns for Lakewood.
Barnegat 42, Monmouth 6
Senior running back Myquan Rush-Esdaile ran for three touchdowns and senior Johnnel Johnson added a pair of rushing touchdowns as the Bengals (3-1, 2-0) scored 40 points for the third straight game for the first time in school history to run away from the Falcons (0-4, 0-2).
Rush-Esdaile ran for a 5-yard touchdown run and Stephen Griffin followed with a 15-yard touchdown run for a quick 14-0 Barnegat lead. Rush-Esdaile then ripped off a 70-yard touchdown run to extend the Bengals’ lead to 21-0 after the first quarter. Johnson scored on runs of 1 and 15 yards in the second quarter and Rush-Esdaile added a 51-yard touchdown run to balloon the score to 42-6 at halftime.
Class D North
Shore 49, Keyport 0
New Egypt 7, Neptune 6
Senior quarterback Caleb Kowaleski threw a touchdown pass to junior wideout Clyde Ferris in the second quarter and Tommy Merlucci’s extra point stood up as the game-winner as the Warriors (3-0, 3-0) clipped the Scarlet Fliers (2-2, 2-1) to remain tied for first place in the division.
Kowaleski threw for 108 yards on 6 of 16 passing while junior running back Eddie Novatkowski ran for 85 yards on 19 carries. Ferris caught three passes for 46 yards and senior Lucas Burgos caught two passes for 53 yards and ran for 37 yards on seven carries.
Neptune senior running back Cam Stukes ran for 83 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries and sophomore quarterback Caleb Brown completed 11 of 18 passes for 144 yards and ran for 84 yards on 14 carries.
Point Beach 24, Keansburg 13
Senior lineman Jerry Santiago recorded a safety and then returned the ensuing kick 30 yards for a touchdown as the Garnet Gulls (2-1, 1-1) held on for a wild victory over the Titans (0-3, 0-3).
Senior running back Liam Brosnan ran for a 5-yard touchdown, junior quarterback Matt Rossi tossed a 30-yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Eli Ives and junior Men Marzarella kicked a 20-yard field goal.
Saturday, Sept. 21
Class A North
No. 3 Red Bank Catholic 41, Colts Neck 7
Senior quarterback Frankie Williams completed 8 of 11 passes for 170 yards and tossed a touchdown to Johnny Williams while a quartet of running backs combined for four touchdowns to lead the Caseys (2-2, 2-0) to a win over the Cougars (0-4, 0-3).
Johnny Williams also ran for a touchdown along with Jamie Gutridge, Jordan Mosenthine and Jake Bickerton. Daniel Zabora caught two passes for 82 yards and Williams caught two passes for 53 yards.
Class B North
Matawan 35, Freehold Boro 21
Senior running back Colin Palumbo ran for 237 yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries to power the Huskies (1-3, 1-1) to their first victory of the season and give head coach Matt Walsh his first career win.
Senior quarterback Am’ir Martinez added a rushing touchdown and totaled 33 yards on six carries. Junior defensive back Welman Crooms had an interception on defense while senior linebacker Jaylen Williams and junior defensive back Alex Lugo registered one sack each.
Senior quarterback Dominic Romeo threw for 215 yards and three touchdowns to lead Freehold (1-3, 0-2). Aidan Hamlin-Woolfolk caught two passes for 89 yards and two touchdowns and Damier Lester had a 68-yard touchdown catch.
Class B South
Central 14, Lacey 7
Senior quarterback Joe Vezzosi threw two touchdown passes, including a 48-yarder to Nnaemeka Amaechina late in the first half, as the Golden Eagles (4-0, 2-0) beat the rival Lions (0-3, 0-2) to setup a pivotal Week 4 showdown with Southern for the division lead.
