Class B North

Matawan 3, Red Bank 2

Juniors Marcos Youseff and Nico Romero scored first-half goals and fellow junior Ryan Hart added the deciding goal in the second half as the Huskies took down the Bucs to open their season on a high note.

Senior Sean Sobocinski assisted Youseff’s goal that opened the scoring within the first three minutes, only for junior Brian Garcia to answer with the equalizer in the fourth minute off a pass from senior Alex Salvo.

Romero gave Matawan the lead for good with a penalty kick before halftime and Hart scored off a pass from Logan Beebe early in the second half to cap the Huskies scoring. Salvo pulled Red Bank within a goal off a pass from Garcia in the 47th, but Matawan held on for the victory.

 

Non-Division

Point Boro 2, Brick 1

Senior Jake Greene scored a pair of goals within five minutes of one another in the second half and the Panthers held on for an season-opening win over the Green Dragons. Fellow seniors Sean Hankins and Braeden Moramarco contributed the assists, with Hankins assisting the first goal in the 29th minute and Moramarco setting up the second in the 34th.

Manchester 2, New Egypt 1

Junior Muiz Aderogba scored the game-winning goal off a corner kick by sophomore Oliver Miron in the 77th minute and the Hawks slid past the Warriors in the season-opener for both teams.

Senior Brayden Kurak opened the scoring by converting a penalty kick in the 67th minute after sophomore Aiden Locayo drew the foul in the box.

Senior Braeden Fischer scored the New Egypt equalizer off a feed from classmate Dylan Harper.

Shore 2, Neptune 0

A red card left Shore a man short from the fifth minute through the final whistle, but a pair of first-time goal-scorers delivered early strikes and the defense delivered a clean sheet to give the Blue Devils an opening-day win over the Scarlet Fliers.

Sophomore Bryan Silveira opened the scoring with a goal in the ninth minute, followed by a tally by junior Kosta Vasilopoulos in the 15th to provide the short-handed Shore defense with some breathing room. Senior Henry Azzolini did not need the insurance in recording his first career shutout.

 

Red Bank Catholic 1, St. Rose 1

 

Manasquan 2, Southern 1

Junior Rey Weinseimer headed in a corner kick by classmate Kai Lomas in the 70th minute for the tie-breaking goal and the Warriors held on to beat the defending Group IV champion Rams to open the season.

Weinseimer earned the corner kick, then positioned himself on the far left post for the header off Lomas’s service. Within the next minute both senior Cruz Farkas and junior Luke Byrne had chances to make it 3-1, with Southern goalkeeper Kyle Sininsky saving a shot by Farkas and Byrne grazing the left post on the follow-up.

Manasquan junior goalkeeper Quinn Petrulla saved a shot in the 79th to deny Southern on its last scoring opportunity. The Warriors out-shot the Rams, 14-3, with only two of Southern’s shots coming on goal.

Southern jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute when a free kick by senior Brody Nacarlo squirted through the Manasquan defense and right to the feet of junior Tyler Houghton, who tapped in the finish.

The Warriors picked up the pressure over the final 20 minutes of the second half and broke through on a goal by sophomore Travis Levy in the final minute of the half. Weinseimer initiated the play with a long throw-in and after a Rams defender deflected a pass in the box, Levy volleyed the ball off another Southern player and into the goal.

Point Beach 3, Pinelands 1

Senior Dylan Ryan assisted a goal by sophomore Max Ramirez, then scored one of his own before halftime to ignite the Garnet Gulls in their season-opening win over the Wildcats.

Junior Brody Powers also added a goal and an assist, including the set-up of Ryan’s goal that made it 2-0 before halftime. Sophomore Jack Morgan assisted the goal by Powers to stretch Point Beach’s lead to 3-0 in the second half. Freshman Steven Amato got Pinelands on the board with his first career goal, which came off an assist by senior James Maleski.

Jackson 3, Donovan Catholic 0

Senior Rafael Cruz and sophomore Yousef Abdelmalak — both former Jackson Liberty players — each scored in the first half to lead the Jaguars over the Griffins for their first win as the newly-formed Jackson Township High School boys soccer team.

Cruz opened the scoring off a pass from senior Collin Williams, who is the top returning scoring from Jackson Memorial in 2024. Abdelmalak later put the Jaguars up, 2-0, before halftime with a finish off a pass from senior Anthony Castellano.

Junior Serhii Hryhoriak made it three goals by former Liberty players with the capper in the second half, with senior Logan Schlenk notching the third assist by a returning starter from Jackson Memorial.

 

Non-Conference

Freehold Boro 3, Burlington Twp. 2 (OT)

Junior Ade Franklyn scored the golden goal in the 12th minute of overtime to deliver the Colonials a season-opening win over the Falcons.

Sophomore Ryan Almeida scored two goals in his first varsity game, the first of which came right after senior goalkeeper Cade Cascone saved a penalty kick in the 19th minute. After Cascone made the stop, senior Kristian Jaku blasted the ball up to Almeida, who chipped the goalkeeper from 30 yards out for the finish. In the 51st, Almeida scored his second goal by knocking in a cross from junior Jaden Misquith.
