No. 3 Colts Neck 1, No. 1 Manalapan 0
Junior Sean Moore broke through with the game’s lone goal in the 64th minute and the Cougars (2-0, 2-0) took down the Braves (0-1-1, 0-1-0) in a showdown between the two Shore Conference Class A Central co-champions from 2024.
Manalapan limited Colts Neck to one shot in the first half, but the Cougars flipped the game in their favor in half No. 2. In the 64th minute, senior Ben Kazani controlled the ball heading toward the goal and slipped the ball through the back line. Moore ran onto it and buried a shot inside the near post for the game’s only goal.
Moore has now scored or assisted all five Colts Neck goals through the first two games of the season. Senior goalkeeper Liam Collura also recorded his second straight shutout to open the season, which included a pair of saves — both in the first half.
Manalapan played without starting senior forward Edoardo Russo after he was issued a red card in the second half of Manalapan’s 2-2 tie vs. Freehold Township on Thursday. The Braves were also without starting senior midfielder Ethan Rosenfeld due to a family commitment and junior starting center back Nick DeSantis due to injury, according to coach Brandon Downey.
Rumson-Fair Haven 1, Howell 0
Senior Sal Taddeo scored off a throw-in by senior Zack Halpern in the 61st minute and the Bulldogs (1-1-1, 1-1-0) finished off a win over the Rebels (1-1, 0-1) to claim their first victory of the season.
No. 2 CBA 2, Marlboro 0
Senior James Brady knocked in the game’s first goal in the 19th minute after a restart and senior Nick Silva added an insurance goal in the final minute of the first half to touch up the scoring in a Colts (1-1-2, 1-0-0) win over the Mustangs (1-1, 0-1).
Sophomore Joe Guastella assisted Silva’s goal with a cross, capping the scoring in CBA’s first win of the season.
Class A Central
Manasquan 3, No. 9 St. John Vianney 0
Junior Adam Rodricks and sophomore Noah Matuch scored within two minutes of one another early in the second half and the one-two punch proved to be enough for the Warriors (2-0, 1-0) in a shutout win over the Lancers (1-1-1, 0-1-0).
Rodricks broke a scoreless deadlock in the 46th minute, with Matuch adding an insurance tally in the 48th. Senior Quinn Juska capped the scoring with a goal in the 78th minute.
No. 7 Middletown South 3, Shore 0
Sophomore Connor Saul went off for a hat trick to run his season total to five goals in two games and the Eagles stormed past the Blue Devils.
Three different Middletown South players set up the three goals by Saul, starting with senior Luke Strada in the first half. Senior Jorge Xmil Carrazno found Saul for a 2-0 lead in the second half and Saul capped the scoring off a pass from senior Mason Petke.
No. 10 Ocean 4, Wall 1
Junior Connor Shaw scored two goals and assisted another during a three-goal second half by Ocean as the Spartans (3-0, 1-0) erased an early one-goal deficit while rallying to beat the Crimson Knights (1-1, 0-1).
Junior Nic Critelli scored the third goal of the second half and also assisted one of Shaw’s goals. Senior Brandon Cosentino scored before halftime to pull Ocean even by intermission and also assisted a Shaw goal in the second half.
Senior Tanner Griffin gave Wall an early 1-0 lead by finishing off a pass from junior Shane Womack.
Class A South
Toms River East 3, No. 8 Central 1
Senior Aiden Reis scored the lone goal of the first half and both junior Malcolm Smith and sophomore Brennen Hutton scored in the second half to power the Raiders (2-0, 1-0) to a win over the Golden Eagles (0-2, 0-1).
Reis scored off a find from Jacob Villegas-Bedoya in the 17th minute and Smith extended the lead to 2-0 in the 43rd minute off a pass from junior Evan Cappetta. Hutton capped the scoring by converting a pass from junior Ayden Salazar to push the lead to 3-0.
Junior Julian Lenovich got Central on the board with a goal in the 73rd minute off a pass from senior Joe Centanni.
No. 5 Toms River North 2, No. 4 Lacey 0
Junior Chris Ruggiero finished a cross from junior Manuele Lubrano in the 18th minute and senior Brady Gillman added a penalty kick in the 28th to take of the scoring in a shutout win for the Mariners (1-2, 1-0) over the Lions (1-2, 0-1).
Junior Gavin Stryker turned in the shutout in goal against Lacey’s potent attack after suffering a pair of 1-0 defeats to open the season.
Class B North
Red Bank 3, Freehold Twp. 2
Seniors Gus Kowalczyk and Alex Salvo each scored a goal and assisted another to lead the Bucs (1-2-1, 1-1-0) to a win over the Patriots (0-1-1, 0-1-0), snapping a three-game winless streak to open the season
Freshman Kevin Fitzpatrick staked Red Bank to a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute off a set-up by Kowalczyk and one minute later, Salvo made it 2-0 off a feed from junior Andy Plazas.
Freehold Township answered in the 39th minute on a goal by senior Gabe Bormolini, but Red Bank started the second-half scoring within four minutes of the opening whistle when Kowalczyk finished off a pass from Salvo.
Senior Sebastian Polo pulled Freehold Township within 3-2 just two minutes after Red Bank’s third goal, but the Bucs defense held down Freehold Township for the remainder of the game.
Raritan 6, St. Rose 1
Senior Owen Brackett posted his second hat trick in as many games to open the season and classmate Jake Bennett added a brace as the Rockets (2-0, 1-0) routed the Purple Roses (0-2-1, 0-1-0).
Junior Matei Cojocariu opened the scoring in the eighth minute and Brackett scored his first goal a minute later off a pass from senior Justin Kasmer. Brackett struck again in the 15th off the first of two assists by Anthony Barone, who then set up Raritan’s next goal — a finish by Bennett in the 25th. Bennett scored again three minutes before halftime off a pass from Sebastian Sanchez.
Brackett finished off the Raritan scoring in the 48th minute with his third goal of the game.
No. 6 Long Branch 2, Matawan 0
Senior Chris De Oliveira Santos assisted a goal by classmate Thomas Silva to open the scoring in the second half, then added an insurance goal for himself to spark the Green Wave (1-0-1, 1-0-0) to a win over the Huskies (1-3, 1-1).
Senior Marvin Oyuela assisted goal by De Oliveira Santos.
Class B Central
Neptune 4, Keyport 0
Freshman Tevenerri Verdieu scored the first two goals of his varsity career and the Scarlet Fliers (1-1, 1-0) raced past the Red Raiders (0-1, 0-1) with three goals in the second half.
Juniors Hunter Reynolds and Mason Imbracio each added a goal and junior Dominic O’Neill dished out a pair of assists for Neptune, which got a clean sheet from sophomore Javier Gordon (six saves).
Asbury Park 3, Monmouth 1
Senior Dain Salazar scored a goal in each half and the Blue Bishops (1-1, 1-0) grounded the Falcons (0-4, 0-1) for their first win of the season. Sophomore Chris Torres Pacheco scored the other second-half goal for Asbury Park.
Ranney 7, Henry Hudson 1
Senior Tyler Yang scored two goals in each half to post a career-high four in one game and the Panthers (1-1, 1-0) shook off a first-half concession to handle the Admirals (0-1, 0-1).
Senior Eddie Magherini scored two goals in the second half and also assisted a goal by sophomore Braden Morin in the first half. Senior John Laub dished out three assists for Ranney as well.
Class B South
Brick Memorial 3, Toms River South 2 (OT)
Senior Sebastian Millan scored the golden goal off a corner kick during the second overtime period and the Mustangs (2-0, 1-0) rallied to top the Indians (1-1, 0-1) to claim their second straight win to open the season — both over teams from Toms River.
Toms River South surged to a 2-1 lead by halftime on goals by seniors Owen Beneciuk and Shane Gambarony after Brick Memorial jumped out to an early lead on the second goal in as many games by junior Nate Stryker.
Brick Memorial drew even just past the midway point of the second half when a shot by senior Jon Acevedo ripped a shot that deflected off a defender and into the goal.
Point Beach 4, Lakewood 3 (OT)
Junior Brody Powers scored the golden goal in overtime off a pass from senior Dylan Ryan and the Garnet Gulls (3-0, 1-0) erased two different two-goal deficits to pull out a win over the Piners (1-2, 0-1).
Powers cut a 2-0 deficit to 2-1 off a pass from senior Landon Schultz in the second half and assisted a goal by Dylan Ryan to pull Point Beach within 3-2. Sophomore Evan Hajeski finished off a pass from classmate Jack Morgan to tie the game, 3-3.
Abraham Torres assisted a goal by fellow sophomore Johan Rodriguez to open the scoring for Lakewood in the 18th minute, then scored the first of his two goals off a pass from Rodriguez to extend the Piners lead to 2-0. After Point Beach trimmed the lead to 2-1, Torres scored his second goal of the game for a 3-1 Lakewood lead.
Jackson 4, Manchester 0
Senior Rafael Cruz scored two goals in the first four minutes of the first half and later assisted the capper by classmate Anthony Castellano in the 70th as the Jaguars (4-0, 1-0) handled the Hawks (2-1, 0-1) to extend their perfect start.
Junior Serhii Hyrhoriak assisted the first goal by Cruz in the first minute of the second half and senior Collin Williams found Cruz in the 44th. Senior Callan Granito made it 3-0 with a goal in the 50th off a pass from classmate Tristan Nikitin before Castellano finished off the scoring in the 70th off the Cruz assist.
Class C South
Brick 3, Barnegat 0
Senior Gianno Godenzi scored a pair of goals and classmate Carl Lofreddo pitched in with a pair of assists to lead the Green Dragons (1-1, 1-0) past the Bengals (2-2, 0-1) for their first win of the season.
Senior Gabe Watlers scored the other Brick goal, with senior Richard Thompson adding an assist.
New Egypt 1, Pinelands 0
Senior Dylan Harper scored the game-winning goal in the second half off a set-up from classmate Braeden Fischer and the Warriors (1-1, 1-0) blanked the Wildcats (0-3, 0-1) for their first divisional win as a member of the Shore Conference.
Non-Division
Holmdel 6, Middletown North 0
Senior Connor Paul scored two of Holmdel’s four goals in the first half and the Hornets (1-1) coasted to a win over the Lions (0-2).
Junior Leo Nobrega and senior Dom Poli each scored a goal in the first half before junior Turner Foster and Max Gulko capped the scoring with a goal apiece in the second half.
Red Bank Catholic 2, Donovan Catholic 1
Sophomore James Main scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute and the Caseys (2-0-1) topped the Griffins (0-2) for their second straight win.
Junior Jack Denver opened the scoring five minutes into the match off a pass from Luke Howarth. Senior Max Durazzo responded with the equalizer for Donovan Catholic in the 38th minute.
