Class A North

No. 1 Colts Neck 1, Marlboro 0

Junior Sean Moore slammed in the game-winning goal off a rebound in the 73rd minute and the Cougars (5-0, 3-0) pulled out a road win over the Mustangs (2-2-1, 0-2-1) to extend their perfect start to the season, with senior Liam Collura picking up the clean sheet in goal.

Holmdel 1, Howell 0

Senior Connor Paul headed in a corner kick from classmate Luke Farrugia in the 15th minute and the Hornets (4-1-1, 1-0-1) held on to take down the Rebels (2-4, 0-3) on the road. Junior Ryan Frigiola completed the shutout in goal.

 

Class A Central

No. 9 Shore 6, Middletown North 4

Senior Cooper Attaway assisted Shore’s first goal of the game and converted a penalty kick in each half as the Blue Devils (4-3, 2-1) piled up four goals in the second half to pull past the Lions (0-5-1, 0-1-1).

Sophomore Bryan Silveira tallied the first goal for Shore and Attaway scored the next two on penalty kicks. Sophomore Bryan Barbosa finished the fourth goal for the Blue Devils and junior Silvio Pessoa scored the deciding goal off a pass from junior Jackson Motzenbecker.

Freshman Jonah Eichenbaum capped the Shore scoring off a feed from senior Declan Drucker.

Senior Paul Que led Middletown North with a brace and an assist, while senior Cameron DelGrosso posted a goal and two assists in the loss. Senior Christian McDonald also scored a goal for the Lions.

No. 5 Middletown South 2, No. 10 Ocean 1 (OT)

Senior Mason Petke scored the golden goal in the first minute of overtime by hammering home a rebound on his own initial miss and the Eagles (4-1, 2-1) captured a win over the Spartans (4-3, 1-2) in a back-and-forth battle.

Senior Luke Strada gave Middletown North a 1-0 with with a strike from the top of the 18-yard box in the 57th minute after gathering a pass from classmate Matteo Gallina. Just two minutes earlier, Ocean junior goalkeeper Matt Makower laid out for a diving double-save to momentarily keep the Eagles off the board.

Staying within one goal paid off for Ocean in the 73rd, when senior Brandon Cosentino beat Middletown South goalkeeper Carson Perry to a cross by junior Brandon Johnson and headed it in for the equalizer.

In the first minute of overtime, Middletown South senior Brett Denery played the ball into the box and Petke was the first to get his head on the ball. Petke then won the second head-ball, which he launched toward the goal, only for Makower to parry it off the crossbar. The ball bounced back to Petke, who slammed it into the net from point-blank range.

Class A South

No. 7 Toms River East 1, Lacey 0

Senior Aiden Reis scored the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute and the Raiders (6-0, 3-0) prevailed with a win over the Lions (3-4, 1-2) to win their sixth straight game to open the season.

Junior Samuel Los started the scoring sequence by playing a give-and-go with sophomore Brady Gillen in the middle of the field before losing the ball on a tackle. Gillen collected the loose ball and slid it over to junior Evan Cappetta, who sent a pass from the right side of the field toward the far left post. Reis made the far-post run and walked in the winning goal into the exposed net.

Senior Mike Moore saved four shots to nail down the shutout.

Point Boro 0, Toms River North 0

 

Class B North

Freehold Twp. 1, Freehold Boro 0

Senior Caine Massey scored the game-winning goal in the seventh minute of the second half and the Patriots (3-2-1, 2-1-0) held strong in the back to secure a rivalry-win over the Colonials (4-2, 1-1).

Junior Brandon Doaman played a long ball forward to find Massey and set him up for the game’s lone score. Sophomore Guiseppe Romano earned the shutout with a pair of saves.

Red Bank 5, St. Rose 0

Senior Alex Salvo and junior Brian Garcia each scored a goal and dished out an assist and the Bucs (3-4-1, 2-2-0) ran away with a win over the Purple Roses (0-6-1, 0-3-0).

Junior Abraham Perez opened the scoring in the 28th minute off Salvo’s assist and Salvo extended the lead to 2-0 in the 33rd off a feed from Garcia. Junior Murphy Lennon then assisted the first two goals of the second half — the first by junior Andy Plazas and the second by Garcia. Senior Ryan Deverin capped the scoring in the 79th off a pass from junior Billy Carbajal.

Matawan 3, Raritan 2

Junior Ryan Hart scored a goal and assisted two others by senior Gavin Heyward and junior Anthony Atardi as the Huskies (2-6, 2-2) won a thriller over the Rockets (3-3, 1-1), snapping their six-game losing streak.

 

Class B Central

Red Bank Catholic 3, Neptune 1

Junior Jack Denver scored a goal in each half to lead the Caseys (4-2-1, 3-0-0) to a come-from-behind win over the Scarlet Fliers (1-4, 1-2). Denver tied the game by scoring off a pass from senior Teagan McCarthy and finished the game-winner off a find from sophomore Cathel McStravick.

Sophomore Holden Szuwalski capped the scoring off an assist from Caiden Seitz.

Asbury Park 3, Keyport 0

Junior Brandon Joseph scored a goal and assisted another to lead the Blue Bishops (4-2, 4-0) over the Red Raiders (1-4, 0-4). Sophomore Christopher Torres and senior Matelson Louisious scored the other two Asbury Park goals, with both senior Dain Salazar and classmate Kerry St. Vilus adding an assist apiece.

 

Class B South

Brick Memorial 3, Lakewood 1

Senior Sebastian Millan scored a goal in each half to ignite a come-from-behind win for the Mustangs (4-3, 3-0) over the Piners (1-5, 0-3).

Millan finished from inside the box for the equalizer in the 23rd minute and connected inside the near post on a shot from outside the corner of the 18-yard box in the 54th. Junior Nate Stryker scored from close range off a pass from sophomore Matt Heptig to give Brick Memorial an insurance goal in the 74th minute.

Lakewood jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute on a penalty kick by sophomore Abraham Torres.

Point Beach 4, Jackson 3

Junior Brody Powers scored both of his goals in the second half, including the game-winning goal that finished off a comeback win for the Garnet Gulls (5-1, 2-1) over the Jaguars (6-3, 1-2).

Junior Landon Hoberman started the comeback by scoring off a pass from senior Dylan Ryan, cutting Jackson’s lead to 2-1 before halftime. Powers then scored an equalizer in the second half after running down a punt from senior goalkeeper Bennett Moberg. Ryan then struck for another game-tying goal, which came off a pass from senior Antonio Acevedo.

Powers won the game with a goal off a pass from Hoberman.

Toms River South 2, Manchester 0

Senior Brody Robillard broke a scoreless deadlock in the 47th minute with a 30-yard strike and the Indians (4-1-1, 2-1-0) sealed a home win under the lights against the Hawks (3-4, 1-2).

Sophomore Guiseppe Raso found Robillard to set up the deciding goal and senior Jacob Myers added an insurance tally in the 74th by finishing a cross from senior Karsin Migliori. Freshman Connor Starr made seven saves in goal to pick up the shutout.

 

Class C South

Brick 4, Pinelands 2

Senior Matt Rodas scored a pair of goals while classmate Carl Loffredo and Sam Ortiz each contributed a goal and an assist to spark the Green Dragons (4-2, 3-0) to a win over the Wildcats (1-6, 0-3).

Senior Lance Heuston and Max Taurgrasso scored the two Pinelands goals.

New Egypt 2, Donovan Catholic 1 (OT)

Junior Nico Ferriolo scored the golden goal off a pass from senior Dylan Harper and the Warriors (3-3, 2-0) topped the Griffins (1-4, 0-2) to pick up their second Class C South division win in as many games this season.

New Egypt and Donovan Catholic traded goals in the first half, with James Testa finishing a pass from fellow junior Pablo Milan for New Egypt and senior Max Durazzo scoring the Griffins goal.

 

 

Wednesday, Sept. 17

Class B Central

Monmouth 8, Henry Hudson 2

Senior Luca Tvrdik scored four goals and added an assist to lead the Falcons (1-6, 1-1) to a road win over the Admirals (0-3, 0-3) to capture their first victory of the season.

Tvrdik assisted the first of two goals by senior Dimitrios Papantoniou, which tied the game at 1-1 after Henry Hudson struck first. Papantoniou later assisted Tvrdik’s third goal. Junior Jack Puleo added a goal on a penalty kick and sophomore Hunter Oksen capped the scoring in the 77th minute.
