No. 4 Manalapan 3, No. 7 Manasquan 2 (OT)
Senior Ethan Lustig completed his brace with the golden goal in the final two minutes of overtime and the Braves (4-1-2) prevailed in a back-and-forth game against the Warriors (6-2).
Manasquan tied the game, 2-2, with 3:56 remaining in regulation on a strike by sophomore Travis Levy on a bouncing ball in the box following a corner kick. Just one minute earlier, senior teammate Cruz Farkas drilled the far right post with a shot from the left side of the box, which led to the corner kick that set up Levy’s goal.
Both teams mounted their respective threats during the first overtime and played a second overtime that was more close-to-the-vest. At the end of the 88th minute, Lustig set up the winning sequence by working his way to the right edge of the 18-yard box and gave up the ball as Manalapan worked the ball around the perimeter of the box.
Junior Adriano Lia played the ball out wide to the left side to senior Alex Bronfman, who struck a deflected shot that clanged off the crossbar. Lustig tracked the shot off the bar, beat the defense to the ball and knocked it into the exposed net for the game-winner.
