NJSIAA Tournament

Sectional Semifinals

Central Jersey Group III

(1) Colts Neck 4, (5) Brick Memorial 1

Junior Sean Moore recorded a hat trick and the Cougars (19-2) overcame an early 1-0 deficit to race past the Mustangs (16-8) and into the sectional final round for the first time since 2018.

After sophomore Matt Heptig headed in the first goal of the game to give Brick Memorial the lead five minutes into the match, Moore scored the equalizer two minutes later off a touch from senior C.J. Collins. Collins then scored to break the tie in the 33rd minute and Moore struck again before halftime to send Colts Neck into halftime with a 3-1 lead. Moore then scored off another assist by Collins to complete his fourth hat trick of the season, increase his season total to 30 goals and career total to 80.

Colts Neck will host the Central Group III championship Friday vs. No. 2 Middletown South as the Cougars search for their first sectional championship since winning the Group I championship in 2000.

(2) Middletown South 1, (3) Northern Burlington 0

Junior Connor Saul one-timed a cross from senior Luke Strada in the 18th minute for the game’s lone goal and the Eagles (15-3-1) held on to top the Greyhounds (14-6-1), clinching Middletown South its first trip to a sectional final since 2003.

Seniors Matteo Gallina and Jack Cohen set up the goal by softening up the defense in the midfield with a series of passes, followed by a diagonal ball from Cohen that found Strada inside the 18-yard box. From there, Strada hit Saul on the other side of the box for the finish and the Eagles defense along with senior goalkeeper Carson Perry secured their 10th shutout of the season and ninth in the last 11 matches.

Middletown South will travel to play No. 1 Colts Neck Friday in the sectional championship game — the third meeting between the two teams this season. Colts Neck defeated Middletown South, 1-0, during the regular season and the Eagles paid Colts Neck back in the Shore Conference Tournament final, which Middletown South won on penalty kicks after a 0-0 draw.

The appearance in the SCT final was also Middletown’s first since 2003 and the SCT championship was its first in program history. Middletown South has never won an NJSIAA sectional championship in boys soccer.

Central Jersey Group II

(11) Wall 1, (7) Manasquan 0 (Wall advances on penalties, 6-5)

Sophomore Kellen Clauburg saved the seventh Manasquan attempt in the round of penalty kicks, setting off a celebration of the Crimson Knights (11-10) outlasting the rival Warriors (13-8) to advance to the sectional final for the third time in seven years and first since 2022.

Clauburg split regulation with senior Harrison Novick, then played in goals during overtime and the shootout. The sophomore saved six shots during his 60 minutes of live action and did not make a save in the shootout until the final attempt of the game.

Manasquan junior goalkeeper Quinn Petrulla saved the first attempt of the shootout to set the tone, but Wall converted its next six kicks and benefited from one miss by Manasquan to extend the round of penalties into two rounds of sudden death.

Wall senior Christian Garduza and Manasquan senior Cruz Farkas were the only players to convert two penalty kicks during the shootout, with Garduza making the kick right before Clauburg’s clinching save.

The Crimson Knights will travel for Friday’s sectional final, either to No. 1 Bordentown or to No. 4 Robbinsville, with the two other semifinalists kicking off at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Bordentown.

South Jersey Group IV

(5) Southern 5, (1) Washington Twp 4 (OT)

Senior Nick Leiriao one-timed classmate Brody Nacarlo’s corner kick into the net for the golden goal in the 94th minute and the Rams (15-6-2) knocked off the top-seeded Minutemen (20-2-2) to reach the sectional final for the second straight season.

Leiriao scored two goals, including two of Southern’s three goals that came on corner kicks. Senior Caden Schweigart also scored a pair of goals, including the first goal of the game to give the Rams a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute off a corner kick from Nacarlo. Ayden Anderson responded with a goal with under two minutes left in the half to tie the game.

Washington Township scored the first two goals of the second half on finishes by Sean Tarsatana and Cooper Frontado, but Southern rallied with another goal from Schweigart and an equalizer by Leiriao off a service from Schweigart on a designed corner kick.

Southern grabbed the lead on a diving head by senior Tyler Houghton in the 70th minute, but Washington Township tied the game in dramatic fashion. A hand ball set up a free kick with five seconds left and Tarsatana bent in the shot for the equalizer with two seconds showing on the clock.

Leiriao’s game-winner came on Southern’s third corner kick of the second overtime period and will extend Southern’s title defense to Friday, when the Rams will either host No. 7 Eastern Regional or travel to No. 3 Cherry Hill East.

South Jersey Group III

(1) Moorestown 1, (4) Toms River South 0

Sahas Kadire scored on a follow-up shot in the final minute of the first half and the Quakers (19-3) held off the Indians (15-5-2) to secure a spot in the South Group III final for the second straight season.

Nate Rivera took on a Toms River South defender and crossed the ball to the front of the goal, where Kadire was rejected on his initial attempt, but followed his miss with a successful rebound finish to account for the long goal of the game.

Toms River South senior Brody Robillard nearly countered with a goal in the last minute of regulation, but his free kick miss the crossbar by inches.

(6) Delsea 2, (2) Toms River East 1 (Delsea advances on penalties, 4-3)
