Like many of his 2025 Southern teammates, Leiriao opened the season playing a different role than the one he finished the season playing, which was also different than his 2024 role. Leiriao was a center fullback for the 2024 Group IV championship team, then opened 2025 as a starting center midfielder. By the end of the year, he had pushed up to striker and his performance helped Southern win a second straight NJSIAA South Jersey Group IV championship. Leiriao scored five of his 13 goals during the state tournament, including a brace in the sectional semifinal at No. 1 Washington Township that he capped by scoring the golden goal in Southern’s 5-4 win.

During his first two varsity seasons as an underclassman, Shaw displayed his pure scoring chops with 19 goals combined in his freshman (five) and sophomore (14) seasons. This year, he showed his adaptability and overall skill. With the addition of senior Brandon Cosentino to the team, Shaw altered his role into more of a distributor as an attacking midfielder, but he also did his fair share of finishing as well. He posted a three-assist game in a win over Jackson to go with four multi-goal games, including a brace vs. rival Wall during the regular season.

Canio Symons, Sr., Defense, Toms River North
2025 Stats: 1 goal, 2 assists
Toms River North spent the entire season searching for scoring, but the Mariners remained a competitive team thanks to a defense led by Symons and fellow All-Shore defender Chris Ruggiero. The Mariners made a run to the Shore Conference Coaches Cup championship and in the final vs. Shore, Symons and Ruggiero displayed how the Mariners made the most of their defenders, with Ruggiero pushing up to score the lone goal in a 1-0 win and Symons covering for him as a rangy, skilled defender. Symons was at the heart of a Toms River North defense that allowed fewer than one goal per game (0.9).

Gavin Stryker, Jr., Goalkeeper Toms River North
2025 Stats: 10 shutouts, 19 goals allowed (21 games)
Another reason Ruggiero could pick his spots on the attack for Toms River North was the presence of Stryker – a second-year varsity goalkeeper who split time as a sophomore and took over the full-time gig as a junior. During his first full season, Stryker was a rock for Toms River North in net, showing technical ability and instincts to go with his size at 6-foot-4. Four of Stryker’s 10 shutouts came in scoreless overtime games and he allowed more than two goals in a game just once – a 4-0 loss to a Pingry team that scored three goals in each of its two games vs. a nationally-ranked St. Benedict’s side.
