St. John Vianney Names New Girls Lacrosse Head Coach
St. John Vianney High School has announced the hiring of Lucia Marcozzi as its new Girls Lacrosse head coach in a press release on Wednesday afternoon.
Marcozzi comes to St. John Vianney after serving as the head coach at the Princeton Day School for two years where she led the team to an appearance in the NJ Prep B Tournament Final. She will follow Brian Muller who led the Lancers to a 10-9 record in his lone season at the helm and a second-place finish in the Freedom Division.
Marcozzi was a standout defender and two-year captain on the women’s lacrosse team at Bucknell University. During her college career, Marcozzi earned Patriot League Honor Roll appointments and was named to the Second Team All-Patriot League as a freshman.
“We are thrilled to welcome Lucia Marcozzi to Saint John Vianney High School as our new girls lacrosse coach,” said President Steven DiMezza. “Lucia brings great experience in lacrosse, a strong faith, experienced leadership, and a passion for developing young women both on and off the field. We are confident she will be an outstanding mentor for our student-athletes and a tremendous addition to our community.”
The Lancers graduated ten seniors including leading scorer Makayla Mitchell who went on to Louisville after finishing her career at St. John Vianney with 215 goals and 70 assists over three seasons.
Upon being hired, Marcozzi said, “I am so excited for the opportunity to coach at Saint John Vianney. My motivation for coaching has always been to help empower young women and build confidence on and off the field. My goal this spring season is to help every girl in our program fulfill their potential by working hard and winning each day. I’m eager to kick off with this talented group and develop a championship-level standard. I am so grateful to be a part of the SJV community that fosters an environment for athletics to thrive. Go Lancers!”
