Class A North

No. 3 Rumson-Fair Haven 65, No. 6 Manasquan 47

Senior Blake Ahmann scored 31 points and hauled in 18 rebounds and the Bulldogs (11-2, 3-1) rode a dominant third quarter to a cathartic win over the Warriors (7-5, 3-1) that snaps a nine-game program losing streak for Rumson against Manasquan, dating back to Rumson’s last win over the Warriors in February of 2018.

Ahmann scored 12 of his career-high total in the third quarter, during which Rumson went on a 20-3 run from the 6:50 mark of the quarter until the final two seconds, when sophomore Luke Winn completed a three-point play to make it 53-38 heading to the fourth. The 20-3 run turned a 33-32 Rumson lead into an insurmountable, 53-35 advantage.

Freshman Clint Martin added 13 points to help Rumson prevail despite once again playing without seniors Luke Cruz and Drew Cavise and getting zero points from second-leading scorer Luke Lydon.

Winn led Manasquan with 17 points and sophomore Logan Cleveland added nine in the loss.

 

Class A Central

St. John Vianney 53, Manalapan 50

Junior Dan Lavan scored 15 points and the Lancers (4-9, 1-3) closed out a win over the Braves (3-6, 0-4) that snaps a four-game losing streak that included one-possession losses to Middletown South, Holmdel and Freehold Township — the last of which was a road loss at the buzzer on Tuesday.

Senior Nick Roselli added 10 points for St. John Vianney, with eight coming in the second half. Junior Justin Togans chipped in nine points for SJV and both Dan O’Neill and fellow junior Nicky Mejia added six points apiece, with each hitting a pair of free throws to help close out the victory.

Senior Dean Aviles scored 15 points, junior Joe Farino pitched in 12 and freshman Josh Sosinov threw in nine to lead Manalapan.

 

Class A South

Southern 54, Donovan Catholic 46

Senior Jake Sliwinski scored 19 points and the Rams (6-5, 3-1) outlasted the Griffins (4-5, 0-3) on the road by taking the lead in the first quarter and holding onto it through the final buzzer despite a battle from Donovan Catholic.

Junior Noah Perna poured in 14 points and classmate Gavin Gerckens chipped in 10 for Southern, which held standout freshman and Donovan Catholic leading scorer Gerard Gallo to three points.

Senior Pat Gallo and freshman Ethan Sulkowski each scored 16 points to lead Donovan Catholic.

Jackson 41, Barnegat 34

Senior George Boley led a balanced scoring effort with 11 points and the Jaguars (8-3, 2-1) fought off a challenge against the Bengals (5-6, 0-3) on the road thanks to a strong finish in the fourth quarter.

Senior Jimmy Pappalardo added nine points and sophomore Mi’Aire Anderson returned from a week-long, injury-related absence to score eight points for Jackson, which outscored Barnegat, 15-9, in the fourth quarter after entering the fourth leading by one point and hitting the halftime locker room trailing, 16-15.

Freshman Chancellor Joseph scored 10 points to lead Barnegat, which jumped out to an 11-4 lead by the end of the first quarter. Senior Jack Haviland added eight points in the loss.

 

Class B North

No. 9 Marlboro 72, Ranney 62

All five Marlboro starters reached double-figure scoring, led by senior Ajay Mathews and junior Dylan McEwan with 16 points each, and the Mustangs (8-3, 2-2) fought off a second-half surge by the Panthers (5-6, 3-2) to secure a key divisional win.

McEwan scored 12 of his points in the first half to help Marlboro storm out to a 41-20 lead at intermission — a lead that grew to as large as 24 in the first half and 23 early in the third quarter. Ranney rallied to cut its deficit to six by the end of the third quarter, with senior Shaan Nayar scoring all 12 of his points in the third.

The last three of those points by Nayar came on a three-pointer in the final seconds of the third quarter and gave the senior guard 1,000th points for his career. Nayar also produced three steals in the loss.

Junior Nolan Gong scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half to help Marlboro close out the victory and also handed out seven assists. Senior center Drew Lubeck, meanwhile, scored 10 of his 12 points during a dominant first half in the paint for the Mustangs and also contributed 10 rebounds and three blocked shots in the win. Senior Christian Elmasri rounded out the starting five with 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Junior Andrew Mardahaev also scored all 15 of his points in the second half and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Ranney, which shot just 2-for-13 with 13 turnovers in the first half and only stayed in the game thanks to 15-for-20 shooting from the free-throw line. Junior Alex Heyser added 12 points and five rebounds and classmate Ben Schaeffer chipped in nine points, five rebounds and four assists for Ranney.

No. 4 Red Bank Catholic 67, Middletown North 56

Junior Gavin Biasi poured in 24 points as one of four RBC players in double-figure scoring and the Caseys (10-2, 4-0) overcame a profound impact made by Middletown North senior Eddie Lopez in his season debut to upend the Lions (2-8, 0-4) for their eighth straight win.

Junior Tyler Hager added 16 points, senior Ryan Saxton chipped in 12 and junior Ryder Ciorciari contributed 10 for Red Bank Catholic. Lopez, meanwhile, rained in a career-high 30 points in his first game of the season. Lopez played his last two seasons at the varsity level for Middletown North, but enrolled at College Achieve in Asbury Park at the beginning of the school year before returning to Middletown North in early December.

Junior Nate Tyburczy and senior Jack Kelly each added 11 points for the Lions.

 

Class B South

Brick Memorial 51, TomsRiver North 43

Senior Jason Lajara and sophomore Luka Begashvili each scored 16 points and the Mustangs (7-6, 2-2) sank the Mariners (4-8, 1-3) to climb back over the .500 mark. Lajara also grabbed five rebounds and handed out three assists, while Begashvili pulled down seven rebounds.

Senior Sean Collins added 11 points and three steals and classmate Nyzier Matthews posted eight points, nine rebounds and four assists for Brick Memorial, which stormed out to a 19-9 lead through the end of one quarter.

Sophomore Jake Greenberg scored 13 points to lead Toms River North, while junior Jackson Sias added 12 and senior Bryce Kazanowsky threw in 10 in the loss.

Point Boro 61, Toms River East 43

Junior Hunter Hynes scored a game-high 21 points to go with three assists and senior Jovin Steinmetz turned in a double-double to lead the Panthers (7-4, 3-1) to a road win over the Raiders (5-6, 1-3) for their fourth straight win and sixth in their last seven games.

Steinmetz finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds and three assists, senior Nick Camino added 11 points and classmate Dean Cardia pitched in nine for Point Boro, which surged out to a 16-6 lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Sophomore Brady Gillen scored 13 points and classmate Tommy Intintola chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead Toms River East.

 

Class C South

Brick 71, Lakewood 24

Junior Jamel Pitts poured in 26 points and classmate Sean Nausedas posed 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Green Dragons (3-9, 2-1) over the Piners (1-9, 0-4) for their second straight win after starting 1-9.

Sophomore Jaylen Johnson handed out six assists to go with his four points for Brick, which had 10 different players record at least one point in the win. Sophomore Tyrese Jones led Lakewood with seven points.

New Egypt 54, Lacey 52

Junior Paul Kennedy scored 16 points and the Warriors (7-5, 4-1) survived a fourth-quarter challenge from the Lions (2-11, 1-4) to pull out the victory on the road.

Senior Nolan Arnold netted 14 points and senior Clyde Ferris pitched in 13 for New Egypt, which outscored overcame a 15-6 first quarter for Lacey by outscoring the Lions, 18-4, in the third quarter.

Junior Kenny Monica scored 21 points to go with 13 rebounds and senior Teagan Gilliespie poured in 15 points to lead Lacey.

Pinelands 62, Manchester 43

Juniors Cayden Lucas and Chris Husni each scored 16 points and senior Josh Barongo posted a double-double as the Wildcats (7-2, 3-0) rolled to a road win over the Hawks (3-10, 2-2).

Barongo poured in 11 points to go with 16 rebounds, Husni dished out four assists, and junior Tyler Garcia contributed nine points, eight rebounds and four assists for Pinelands.

Senior James Ruocchio lead Manchester with a game-high 18 points.

 

Non-Division

Neptune 56, Freehold Boro 46

Senior Jordan Pierre scored 26 points and pulled in seven rebounds to lead the Scarlet Fliers (3-7) to a home win over the Colonials (5-6). Senior C.J. Evans added 14 points and sophomore Dion Burton pitched in eight points and 11 rebounds for Neptune.

Senior Mike Cush poured in a game-high 30 points to carry Freehold Boro.

Henry Hudson 62, Monmouth 59

Senior Billy Quinn scored a game-high 25 points and the Admirals (7-4) edged the Falcons (7-3) in a battle of division title contenders from different divisions.

Junior JoJo Newell added 15 points, classmate Masio Tucker chipped in eight and fellow junior Blakely Smith contributed seven for Henry Hudson.

Junior Logan Conrade led four Monmouth scorers in double-figures with 19 points and senior Michael Griffin set a new program record by knocking down the 101st three-pointer of his high school career on the way to 16 points in the game. Senior Ahmir Wiggins added 14 points and classmate Jaylin Reeves chipped in 10 in the loss.

No. 5 Howell 68, Matawan 47

Senior Cayden Parker scored 24 points and junior brother, Cayden Parker, poured in 23 to lead the Rebels (8-2) to a road win over the Huskies (6-6). Junior Noah Musto threw in 11 points for Howell.

Junior Christian Baskerville led Matawan with 24 points.
