Sophomore Luke Winn hit four three-pointers on the way to a game-high 17 points and the Warriors (10-7, 5-3) battled past the Bucs (7-12, 2-6) to keep pace with Holmdel and Rumson in the scrap for the Class A North public division championship.
Sophomore Sean Bilodeau added 10 points and senior Jack O’Reilly chipped in nine for Manasquan. Junior Will Galligan paced Red Bank with 14 points.
Class A Central
Middletown South 84, No. 5 Howell 53
Freshmen Evan Wells and Ryan Gannon combined for 47 points and the Eagles (12-7, 6-3) routed the Rebels (14-4, 6-3) to earn a regular-season split with the Rebels, officially make Wall the Class A Central champion, and effectively wrap up a spot in the Shore Conference Tournament.
Well led all scorers with 24 points and Gannon poured in 23 for Middletown South. Senior Matt Trimble also chipped in 14 points for the Eagles, who led, 23-7, after one quarter and closed out the win by outscoring Howell, 25-9, in the fourth.
Junior Jayson Parker scored 14 points and senior Cayden Parker netted 13 to lead Howell.
No. 2 Wall 69, No. 9 Freehold Twp. 55
Senior Brian McKenna scored 21 points to go with six rebounds and classmate Dan Hennessy added 15 of his 19 points in the second half while picking off six steals as the Crimson Knights (16-0, 9-0) pulled away with a win over the Patriots (10-8, 4-5) to win their 16th straight game to open the season. With Howell’s loss earlier in the evening, Wall also clinched the outright Class A Central championship, the second straight division title for the Crimson Knights.
Senior Jake DeBrito scored eight of his nine points in the first half and senior Liam Killea pitched in six points and six assists for Wall, which outscored Freehold Township, 41-27, in the second half after the teams entered the break tied at 28.
Junior Dakota Lasater led Freehold Township with 16 points, including 11 during the first half. Classmate Cole Gerigk added 13 points, five rebounds and six assists for the Patriots, while fellow junior Jake Schultzel chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds in the loss.
Class A South
Central 76, Southern 70 (2 OT)
Junior Derek Roth threw up a triple-double with 30 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the Golden Eagles (14-5, 6-1) to marathon win over the Rams (9-8, 4-3) that sets them up with a chance to win a second straight Class A South championship Friday night at Jackson.
Sophomore Jaxen Carter added 17 points, including a pair of free throws that gave Central a five-point lead with under 20 seconds to play in the second overtime. Junior Tyler Woermer posted 11 points, six rebounds and two blocked shots, while senior Elijah Reader contributed nine points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots in the victory.
Senior Jake Sliwinski led Southern with 23 points and sent the game into double-overtime by converting a driving layup just before the overtime buzzer sounded. Junior Noah Perna added 17 points before fouling out in the final seconds of the first overtime and junior Josh Brofman nailed five three-pointers for 15 points in the loss.
If Jackson defeats Barnegat on Tuesday night, the Central at Jackson game on Friday will be a winner-take-all game for the outright Class A South championship. Jackson beat Central, 58-48, on Jan. 20 at Central in a game in which Jackson trailed by 12 points in the third quarter and went on a 26-3 run during the fourth to pull off the win.
Class B North
Ranney 70, No. 3 Marlboro 58
Senior Shaan Nayar and junior Andrew Mardahaev each scored 17 points as the Panthers (10-7, 6-3) buried 12 three-pointers and authored a big second quarter to spark a win over the Mustangs (14-4, 6-3) that keeps their hopes of a division co-championship alive while ending Marlboro’s hopes of an outright Class B North title.
Nayar scored seven points in the fourth quarter to help close out the win, while juniors Ben Schaeffer and Alex Heyser each struck double-figure scoring for Ranney as well, with Schaeffer scoring 12 and Heyser adding 11 on three three-pointers.
Junior Bryce Haney hit two of Ranney’s five three-pointers in the second quarter to account for all his scoring in the game and the Panthers outscored Marlboro, 19-11, in the period to take a 34-23 halftime lead.
Senior Ajay Mathews went off for a career-high 30 points to lead Marlboro, which played without junior guard and leading scorer Dylan McEwan, who is in concussion protocol, according to coach James Reuter. Senior Drew Lubeck added 11 points, 14 rebounds and four assists in the loss.
No. 4 Red Bank Catholic 76, Middletown North 56
Senior Ryan Saxton and junior Tyler Hager each scored 19 points and the Caseys (15-5, 7-2) rode a well-rounded attack to a win over the Lions (5-14, 1-8) that sets them up as the lone team in Class B North with a chance to win an outright division championship.
Junior Gavin Biasi added 15 points, with 10 coming in the fourth quarter, and senior James Hankowski hit three three-pointers in the first quarter on the way to scoring 12 points for RBC. Junior Ryder Ciorciari also netted eight points in the win.
Senior Eddie Lopez scored 19 of his game-high 25 points in the second half to lead Middletown North. Freshman Nick DiGiovanni also threw in 10 points in the loss.
Red Bank Catholic can clinch the outright Class B North championship on Thursday by beating Colts Neck at home. A Colts Neck win combined with wins by Marlboro over Middletown North and Ranney over Freehold Boro would result in a four-way tie for the division championship between RBC, Colts Neck, Ranney and Marlboro.
Class B Central
Ocean 56, Neptune 27
Freshman Omary Ayyash led a balanced scoring effort with 13 points and the Spartans (14-7, 8-1) buried the Scarlet Fliers (6-11, 4-5) with a 21-3 fourth quarter, which clinched Ocean the outright Class B Central championship for their second division title in four years.
Freshman Ahmad Ayyash and senior Aidan Saint Louis each added 12 points and six rebounds for Ocean, with Ahmad Ayyash also handing out three assists and nabbing two steals. Senior C.J. Evans scored 11 points to lead Neptune, which climbed back into the game with a 15-6 second-quarter run after Ocean won the first quarter, 16-3.
Raritan 73, Long Branch 38
Senior Anthony Fazioli scored 17 points and the Rockets (7-11, 3-6) rolled to a win over the Green Wave (4-15, 0-9). Senior Connor Lee pitched in 12 points and six rebounds and senior Anthony Barone dished out seven assists for Raritan to go with his four points.
Matawan 52, Monmouth 40
Senior Colin Reitmann poured in 23 points and classmate Trevor Cole added 13 to help the Huskies (8-11, 6-3) dealt the Falcons (12-6, 6-3) a loss that ends Monmouth’s pursuit of their first division title since 2009.
Senior Ahmir Wiggins and junior Logan Conrade each scored 16 points to lead Monmouth.
Class C North
Shore 52, Keansburg 42
Senior Andrew Barham scored 18 points and twin brother, Ryan Barham, poured in 17 to help pace the Blue Devils (14-4, 8-0) to a win over the Titans (9-8, 2-5) that completes a perfect run through the Class C North division on the way to the program’s second division championship in three years and first outright title since 2007.
Senior Finn Watson also contributed 10 points for Shore. Sophomore Taurian Black led Keansburg with 11 points.
Keyport 79, Asbury Park 53
Senior Kai Arrington pumped in 35 points to lead the offense in a Red Raiders (9-9, 3-4) win over the Blue Bishops (0-13, 0-7). Junior Demetrius Attia added 10 points and senior Casey McCarthy hit three three-pointers for nine points for Keyport.
Ny’John Kirkpatrick and Cam Berardesco each scored 19 points to lead Asbury Park, with Ryan Monroe netting 10 in the loss.
Class C South
Pinelands 67, Lacey 51
Junior Cayden Lucas led four Pinelands players in double-figure scoring with 17 points and junior Chris Husni put up 16 points and nine assists in leading the Wildcats (12-4, 6-1) to a win over the Lions (2-15, 1-7) that pulls them back into a tie with Brick atop the Class C South standings.
Freshman Rex Kline added 13 points and junior Tyler Garcia chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds for Pinelands. Junior Kenny Monica scored a game-high 20 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked two shots to lead Lacey, while senior Teagan Gilliespie added 16 points and three assists in the loss.
Non-Division
Brick Memorial 60, Manalapan 40
Senior Sean Collins went for 22 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots while classmate Nyzier Matthews posted 18 points and eight rebounds to lead the Mustangs (11-8) to a road win over the Braves (6-12).
Junior Joe Farino scored 17 points and senior Dean Aviles added 10 to lead Manalapan.
Barnegat 48, Brick 45
Freshman Myles Joseph led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points and the Bengals (8-9) snapped a six-game winning streak by the Green Dragons (8-11). Senior Jack Haviland, senior Donovan Paul and junior Anthony Dringus each scored eight points to back up Joseph.
Junior Jamel Pitts scored a game-high 20 points and sophomore Jake Walters hit three three-pointers for nine points to lead Brick.
Non-Conference
Henry Hudson 75, Koinonia 35
Junior JoJo Newell kicked off the game with nine points in the first quarter on the way to a game-high 25 as the Admirals (13-6) handled Koinonia (4-12) on the road. Junior Masio Tucker added 14 points, senior Billy Quinn scored nine of his 11 in the first half and junior Jack Carlstrom chipped in nine for Henry Hudson.
Robbinsville 57, Toms River North 53
Senior Jayden Thomas and sophomore Jake Greenberg each scored 11 points but Toms River North’s balanced scoring threat was not enough for the Mariners (7-11) to hold serve at home against the Ravens (11-7).
Juniors Jackson Sias and Logan Brill each added eight points for Toms River North. Jackson Davis led Robbinsville with 20 points and University of Pittsburgh baseball commit Tyler Bunnell added 18 in the win.
