(1) CBA 72, (5) Marlboro 42

Junior David Buley came off the bench and poured in a game-high 18 points while grabbing five rebounds to help spark the Colts (22-3) to a convincing win over the Mustangs (18-5) that sends CBA to the SCT championship game for the second straight year.

Senior Connor Andree added 14 points and 10 rebounds, senior Charlie Messano contributed eight points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals, and sophomore Izayah Cooper scored all nine of his points in the first half to go with three assists for CBA.

Andree scored two baskets during a 6-0 start to the game that prompted an early Marlboro timeout. The Mustangs responded with a 12-2 run to take a 12-8 lead past the midway point of the first quarter. From there, CBA rattled off an 18-1 that helped the Colts wrestle control of the game, starting with three consecutive three-pointers to end the first quarter — one by the 6-foot-8 Buley and two by Cooper.

Senior Ajay Mathews scored 12 of his 16 points in the first half to lead Marlboro, while junior Dylan McEwan added 11 points and six rebounds in the loss, with nine of those points coming in the second half.

(3) Red Bank Catholic 44, (2) Wall 31

Junior Gavin Biasi scored a game-high 17 points and the Caseys (19-6) turned in a memorable defensive effort to shut down the Crimson Knights (19-2), hand Wall its first loss of the season vs. a Shore Conference opponent and punch RBC’s ticket to its first ever Shore Conference Tournament championship game.

Biasi also grabbed six rebounds and led a defensive effort that held Wall leading scorer Brian McKenna to four points on one field goal that came on a three-pointer that cut RBC’s lead to 38-28 with under two minutes to play. The Crimson Knights also held second-leading scorer Dan Hennessy without a point.

Senior James Hankowski added nine points on three three-pointers, the last of which gave the Caseys a 35-25 lead with two minutes to play. Senior Ryan Saxton and junior Tyler Hager each starred on both ends of the floor as well for RBC. Saxton also spent time guarding McKenna and finished with seven points and seven rebounds. Hager, meanwhile, posted six points, 15 rebounds, four assists, two steals and three blocked shots. All three of Hager’s blocks came in the first 10 minutes and two of his three field goals were dunks.

Junior Navin Tu scored all 10 of his points off the bench in the first half to lead Wall. Senior Liam Killea added eight points, three assists and three steals and senior Jake DeBrito chipped in seven points for Wall. McKenna contributed seven rebounds and four steals despite his struggles on the offensive end.

 

Non-Division

Henry Hudson 75, Lakewood 34

Junior JoJo Newell scored a game-high 31 points and the Admirals (17-8) handled the Piners (2-18) on the road. Classmate Blakely Smith added 11 points and fellow juniors Masio Tucker and Jack Carlstrom each chipped in 10 for Henry Hudson.

Rumson-Fair Haven 79, Ranney 69

Senior Luke Cruz pumped in a game-high 26 points, including the 1,000th point of his high school career, and freshman Clint Martin poured in 21 to spark the Bulldogs (16-8) to a win over the Panthers (13-11). Senior Luke Lydon also threw in 10 points for Rumson.

Junior Ben Schaeffer led Ranney with 19 points and four steals, while junior Alex Heyser netted 15 points and junior Bryce Haney added 13 points, three assists and five steals in the loss.

Donovan Catholic 76, Keansburg 54

Senior Pat Gallo and freshman brother Gerard Gallo combined for 45 points to help the Griffins (7-14) rumble to a win over the Titans (13-10). Pat Gallo scored a game-high 23 points and Gerard Gallo finished with 22 points and four assists.

Sophomore Taurian Black and senior I’Shon Young each scored 17 points to lead Keansburg.

 

Non-Conference

Westfield 70, Middletown South 53

Manalapan 62, Hamiton West 54

Junior Joe Farino scored 19 points to lead the Braves (12-13) to a win over the Hornets (7-19), extending Manalapan’s winning streak to five games.

Point Boro 53, A.L. Johnson 52

Junior Hunter Hynes buried a 35-foot three-pointer as time expired and the Panthers (16-9) pulled out a win at the buzzer over the Crusaders (17-7). Point Boro trailed, 53-52, with 1.1 second left and Hynes took the pass from full court, took one dribble and buried the shot as the buzzer sounded.

Hynes finished with 13 points and seven rebounds, while senior Jovin Steinmetz led Point Boro with 24 points and nine rebounds, including the 1,000th point of his high school career.
