Class A North

No. 4 Red Bank Catholic 1, Middletown South 0

Junior Anthony Scaglione fired six shutout innings and the Caseys pushed across the lone run of the game without a hit in the fifth inning to claw their way past the Eagles in RBC’s season-opener.

Catcher Aiden Funk worked one of his two walks in the game with one out in the fifth, followed by a stolen base by courtesy runner Dan Rice, who moved to third on a wild pitch before Jake Frankel drew a one-out walk to park runners on the corners. After Frankel stole second base, St. Rose transfer Tyler Hager then hit a comebacker to the mound but Rice beat the throw home for an RBI fielder’s choice and a 1-0 RBC lead.

Class B North

Middletown North 7, Rartian 3

Senior Louis Romeo hit a tie-breaking RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning and faced the minimum six batters over two scoreless innings to earn the save as the Lions bounced back from an opening-day no-hitter and three first inning runs surrendered vs. the Rockets to capture their first win of the season.

Senior Liam Sheehan knocked in a run in both the first and fourth innings, first singling home a run to make it 3-1 in the bottom of the first, then following Romeo’s RBI double with a second consecutive RBI double in the next at-bat, which gave Middletown North a 5-3 lead.

Middletown North tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the second. Derek Thoms knocked in a run with an RBI single, followed by an RBI single by fellow sophomore Donnie Murphy.

Freshman Evan Mazolla made his varsity debut on the mound in relief of starter Justin Kelly and pitched 2 2/3 innings with six of the eight outs coming via strikeouts. Romeo allowed just one base-runner in his two innings — a hit batter with one out in the seventh — and erased him with a game-ending double play started by Sheehan at first base.

Class C North

Red Bank 7, Shore 2

Matt Huss ripped RBI doubles in both the first and fourth innings and winning pitcher Casey Lillis drove in runs in both the first and third to lead the Bucs to a win over the Blue Devils that clinches a sweep of the regular-season series between the two teams.

Huss drove in the first run of the game with an RBI double, followed by an RBI single by Lillis to stake Red Bank to an early 2-0 lead. Shore catcher Riley Smaltini came through with a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the first to tie the game.

Lillis broke the tie with an RBI groundout in the third and Huss roped a two-run double to make it 7-2 in the top of the fourth. Earlier in the fourth, Joe Henry knocked in a pair of runs with a single, as the Bucs built up a five-run cushion for Lillis on the mound.

No. 7 Rumson-Fair Haven 11, Barnegat 1 (5 Innings)

After allowing the only Barnegat run of the game in the top of the third, Rumson sophomore starter Brady Williams immediately struck back with a game-tying single in the bottom of the inning, setting the stage for 10 Bulldogs runs over the final two innings to close out a run-rule win over the Bengals to open their season.

Rumson plated seven runs in the fourth, with two runs scoring on bases-loaded walks, one on an errant pickoff and another on a balk. The others scored on a sacrifice fly by Miles Martin and an RBI infield single by Lloyd Bush, with Aiden Dill coming around to score the second run on the throw to first for an 8-1 lead. Dill later ended the game with a two-run double with two out in the bottom of the fifth.

No. 9 Colts Neck 7, Churchville-Chili (N.Y.) 5 (8 Innings)

After Churchville-Chili tied the game with a run in the bottom of the seventh and following a 45-minute lightning delay, Ryan Rude came on to escape a bases-loaded, no-out jam to deny the Saints the winning run, then closed out the victory with a one-two-three eighth after the Cougars scored the winning runs in the top of the inning.

John Glusko and Aiden Bain each hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth, which began with R.J. Conover as an automatic runner on second base to start the inning after he made the final out of the seventh.

Colts Neck scored three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 5-3 lead thanks to consecutive RBI hits by Ronan Kiely, Conover and Joe Pignatelli — all with two out. Kiley made it 3-3 with an RBI single, Conover followed with an RBI triple to give the Cougars the lead, then scored on an RBI single by Pignatelli.

Catcher Griffin Kilcullen drove in runs in three different innings and Ryan Wetmore added two two-run hits as the two Colts each drove in four runs to highlight CBA’s first win of the season following three straight losses to open 2026.

Killcullen made it 6-0 in the third on a sacrifice fly and his two-run single in the fourth grew the lead to 9-0. Jack Pascucci delivered a pinch-hit, two-run single for an 11-0 lead and Wetmore capped a seven-run fourth with a two-run double — his second double of the game.
