Class A North

No. 5 Ranney 9, Middletown South 2

Ricky Lopez drove in the first five Ranney runs — first with a go-ahead three-run home run in the bottom of the third and then with a two-run double in the fourth — as the Panthers overcame 10 walks by the pitching staff to take down the Eagles.

Middletown South opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to five walks and a hit batter before Noah Hynes settled in to put up zeroes in the second and third innings while racking up eight strikeouts and not allowing a hit. J.L. Gallina took over with two runners aboard and none out in the top of the fourth and stranded the bases loaded with a strikeout and comebacker to the mound to end the threat.

Freshman Brody McCorkle followed up the two-run double by Lopez with a two-run double of his own to make it 7-1 in the fourth inning and was later hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth to give him a third RBI.

No. 3 Red Bank Catholic 3, Manalapan 2

Landon Laido plated the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Caseys walked off with a win over the Braves to post their third straight win to start the season.

Laido also ignited the game-tying rally in the bottom of the sixth by leading off with a single, after which he gave way to pinch-runner Jack Burns. Brayden Harmata sacrificed Burns to second and after a balk moved Burns to third, Miles Nessan smoked a single through the middle to bring him home to tie the score, 2-2.

Aiden Funk led off the bottom of the seventh with a four-pitch walk and Jake Frankel escalated the rally with a single into center to move courtesy runner Dan Rice to second base with the winning run. Tyler Hager successfully sacrificed both runners up a base and Manalapan opted to intentionally walk Drew Cannon to load the bases with one out. Laido then lifted a fly ball to centerfield that was deep enough to score Rice with the winning run.

Manalapan also used its own version of small ball to take the lead in the top of the sixth. Freshman Josh Sosinov lined a single into right field and took second on a passed ball before Gavin Leib dropped down a bunt single to put runners on the corners. Brayden Lesser tied the game with ground out to first base that chased home Sosinov, giving Manalapan a 2-1 lead.

No. 6 Rumson-Fair Haven 8, Freehold Twp. 1

Matt Glynn drove in a run in the second, third and fifth innings and Devin Fahey earned his first varsity win with two innings of scoreless relief as the Bulldogs completed a regular-season sweep of the Patriots to remain perfect to start the season.

Glynn tied the game with an RBI single in the bottom of the second, drew a bases-loaded walk in the third to make it 3-1 and singled home another run in Rumson’s three-run fifth. Jack Gyimesi also drove in a run with a single in the fifth and Alex Tadaro made it 6-1 with an RBI double to cap the rally in the fifth.

Rumson added to more runs on extra-base hits in the six, with Aiden Dill belting an RBI triple and Dan McElduff lining an RBI double to finish off the scoring.

No. 8 Colts Neck 11, Raritan 3

The Cougars scratched across two runs against Boston-College-bound left-hander Will Meehan, then broke the game open with nine runs in the final three innings to win their fifth straight to open the season while completing a regular-season sweep of the Rockets.

R.J. Conover singled to lead off the second inning and scored on a bases-loaded walk by an Annunziata, who laid off a 3-2 pitch from Meehan to force in the game’s first run. In the top of the fourth, Joe Pignatelli worked a lead-off walk, stole both second and third, then stole home on the back-end of a first-and-third double-steal, with John Glusko successfully stealing second on the play.

Conover roped a two-run double to make it 4-0 in the top of the fifth, Austin Hardy delivered a pinch-hit RBI single for a 6-0 lead later in the inning and John Sponder capped the five-run fifth with an RBI single through the right side.

Class C North

Matawan 8, Freehold Boro 2

Lorenzo Michaud smashed a two-run triple to give Matawan the lead in the bottom of the fifth, then hit another one in the bottom of the sixth to lead a late-game outburst at the plate that carried the Huskies to a win over the Colonials — their first victory of 2026.

Michaud’s first two-run triple came with two out in the bottom of the fifth and gave the Huskies a 3-2 lead. Meanwhile, Mark Fanelli pitched three no-hit innings of relief with five strikeouts to earn the win and set the stage for Matawan’s late-game heroics in the batter’s box.

Matawan’s five runs in the sixth all came with two out as well, starting with a bases-clearing double by A.J. Deo to give his team a 6-2 cushion. After an error extended the inning, Michaud cracked another triple to left to plate Deo and A.J. Aversano.

St. John Vianney 2, Holmdel 1

Tyler McDougall pitched six strong innings, singled with none out in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored the winning run on a game-ending, bases-loaded walk draw by Wyatt Lewis that gave the Lancers a win over the Hornets in their final at-bat. St. John Vianney completed a regular-season sweep of Holmdel and captured its fifth straight win.

Holmdel committed two of its three errors in the game during the bottom of the seventh, starting with a miscue on J.J. McGonigle’s ground ball leading off the inning. McDougall then singled to set up SJV with the winning runs on base and McGonigle eventually scored on the second Holmdel error of the inning, which came after Nick Vitiello sacrificed both runners into scoring position and Holmdel opted to intentionally walk Mike Capaldo. Tyler Shpiro then hit the ground ball that scored McGonigle and Lewis walked on five pitches to force in the clinching run.

Holmdel senior and Seton Hall commit Jack Vallillo outdueld McDougall over the first six innings by pitching a two-hit shutout over that span before giving way to Lincoln Maikos after throwing 97 pitches through six innings. Vallillo also helped create Holmdel’s lone run by leading off the top of the fourth with a single and scoring on an RBI ground out by Rob Mioduszewski.

Chris Joy blasted a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to extend Marlboro’s lead to 4-0 and the Mustangs held off a late surge by the Bucs to finish off a regular-season sweep of Red Bank.

Joy also singled home a run in the sixth to push Marlboro’s lead to 7-1, setting up Mark Risi to pick up the win after he struck out a career-high 12 over five innings of work.

Jake Senkeleski doubled home a run for Red Bank in the sixth and cut Marlboro’s lead to 8-5 with a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh before Kadyn Salfarlie recorded the final out, leaving the potential tying run for the Bucs in the on-deck circle.
