St. Joseph’s (Met.) 7, No. 6 Toms River East 6 (9 Innings)

Colin Sharma delivered the third of three straight one-out hits in the bottom of the ninth and the Falcons walked off in their final at-bat to complete a come-from-behind win over the Raiders.

John Boyke started the rally with a single and Owen Krulikowski launched a double to move the winning run to third base. Sharm then worked the count full and hit a hard come-backer the mound and beat it out for the winning hit.

Toms River East broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the seventh, with Lucas Melton leading off with a single and scoring on a single through the middle by Logan Macchia. Charma answered with the first of his two clutch RBI singles, the first of which came with one out in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game, 6-6, after St. Joseph set up the rally with a hit-by-pitch and an error with none out in the inning.

The Falcons had runners on the corners with none out in the bottom of the seventh, but Jonathan Pallman induced a pop-fly double-play to end the inning. Carson Frazier pulled off a similar feat in the eighth, when he coaxed a 4-6-3 double-play for the first two out after the first two batters of the inning reached on a single and a walk. He then snared a come-backer to the mound and flipped it to first to end the threat.

Toms River East scored in each of the first three innings to go up, 3-1. Chris Tennaro singled home the first run and was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 2-0. Michael Mendes singled in a run during the third to extend the lead to 3-1, which disappeared with St. Joseph’s four-run fourth.

The Raiders then responded with two in the fifth to tie the game, 5-5, on a two-run single by Logan Macchia.
