Al Kunzman Ocean County Tournament
Semifinals
(4) Brick Memorial 6, (1) Toms River East 3
Dan Golembiewski blasted a two-run home run in the top of the first inning and winning pitcher Brody Moore helped his cause with a two-run single in Brick Memorial’s four-run third before pitching the back-end of a 10-strikeout, six-inning outing that led the Mustangs over the two-time defending champion Raiders.
Brick Memorial heads to the OCT final for the second straight year and will take on Toms River South Thursday at Central Regional High School in search of the program’s first Ocean County Tournament since 1996.
After Moore’s two-run single made the score 5-0 in third, Braden Kabus followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 6-0.
Toms River East drew closer in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run by Lucas Melton to cut the deficit to 6-3 and a squeeze bunt dropped by Jonathan Pallman made it 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth. Moore retired First Team All-Shore shortstop Joey DiMeo on a pop fly into shallow rightfield to end the sixth and Zach Pirnik pitched a perfect seventh inning to earn the save.

(2) Toms River South 11, (11) Southern 1 (5 Innings)
Canaan Sanzone ran down four fly balls in centerfield and threw out a runner at second base in the first two innings alone, then clubbed a three-run home run to break the game open in the bottom of the third inning as the Indians ran away with a win over the Rams to reach the OCT final for the first time since 2016.
Sophomore Max Pagano earned his first varsity win on the mound thanks to a sparkling Toms River South defense that did not commit an error despite Pagano and fellow sophomore Stan Citkowicz combining to strikeout just one batter in the game.
Ten of Toms River South’s 11 runs crossed the plate with two out in an inning, starting with an RBI single by Anthony Abatemarco in the bottom of the first inning. Jaden Geremia made it 2-0 in the second with an RBI double to chase Sanzone home from first base and Brett Rankin lashed an RBI single into left with two out in the third to extend the Toms River South lead to 3-0.
Two batters after Rankin’s RBI single, Sanzone drilled a 2-2 pitch onto the school roof at Ken Frank Baseball Stadium to extend the Indians lead to 6-0. Evan Schmidt singled home a run in the fourth and later hit a two-run single that ended the game by plating Toms River South’s 10th and 11th runs in the bottom of the fifth. Abatemarco also added a second RBI single in the fourth and Christian Mascaro singled home a run in the fifth to make it 9-1.
Toms River South will take on Brick Memorial Thursday at Central Regional High School in the OCT championship game.

Semifinals
(6) Howell 10, (2) Red Bank Catholic 1
Jackson Vetrano struck out 11 in 5 2/3 innings of work and Jack Quinn inserted himself into three of Howell’s four scoring rallies as the Rebels hammered the Caseys to reach the Monmouth County Tournament championship game for the first time in program history.
Quinn jump-started the Howell offense with a leadoff triple in the second and scored on another triple by Waylon Cavanaugh after Red Bank Catholic starter Glen Popes recorded the first two outs of the inning with Quinn still on first. Quinn had the second of three straight RBI hits by Howell in the top of the third, a run that started with an RBI double by Alex Bondarew to make it 2-0. Derek Liotti capped the inning with an RBI single to make it 4-0.
Vetrano had a shutout working through five innings and Howell added to its lead in the top of the sixth by loading the bases with one out and cashing in. Bondarew was hit by a pitch to force in a run and Quinn made it 7-0 with a two-run single. Liotti later added an RBI single to cap the scoring in the top of the seventh.
Howell will face the winner of the other semifinal between Rumson-Fair Haven and Ranney in next week’s Monmouth County Tournament championship game, which will be played at Brookdale Community College on a day yet to be determined. Rumson defeated Howell, 8-3, on Thursday and Howell split its Class A North regular-season division series with Ranney, 1-1.

Jack Dougherty hit the first pitch throw by Andrew Barham over the wall in leftfield for a leadoff solo home run in the bottom of the first, then Barham shut down the Eagles the rest of the way to send the Blue Devils to the Jarmusz Bracket final with their eighth win in a row and 11th in the last 12 games.
Ryan Barham tied the game with an RBI single in the top of the third inning and Shore took the lead in the top of the sixth when Braden Calandriello hit a one-out double and scored on an error.
Andrew Barham put down threats in the fourth and seventh innings to win the game for Shore. Matt Korth roped a one-out triple in the fourth, but Barham stranded him there. He later gave up a leadoff single to Peter DeNicola in the bottom of the seventh, but retired the next three batters to close out the win.

Raritan 3, Ocean 2
Eric McCartney hit a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the seventh inning and Dylan Hernandez stranded the winning runs on second and third in the bottom of the inning to finish off a complete-game victory and a Rockets win over the Spartans.
Raritan tied the game on an RBI fielder’s choice by Mark Brown before McCartney came through with his two-out RBI single. Ocean threatened in the bottom of the inning with a one-out single by Michael Martin and a two-out double by Eli Gonzalez that moved Martin to third base, but Hernandez induced a fly out to end the game.
