Shore Conference Tournament

Group Stage

Southern 1, Matawan 0

Junior Juan Victoria scored in the 26th minute and junior goalkeeper Richie Southwick saved a penalty kick in the 50th to help lead the Rams (4-5-2) over the Huskies (9-3-1) to earn the final spot in the Shore Conference Tournament out of SCT Group 2.

Victoria took a pass from fellow junior George Katsianis and buried a shot into the lower right corner of the goal for a 1-0 Southern lead. In the 50th, Southwick committed the foul inside the penalty box that led to the penalty kick, then made up for his error by making a diving save to his right on senior Ryan Hart’s attempt. Hart fired a follow-up shot and Southwick caught it to squash the threat.
