Junior Jake Ramella scored five minutes before halftime, then assisted the insurance goal by senior Ryan Seybuck in the 54th minute as the Braves blanked the Cougars to open their season.
Junior left fullback Antone Uhl made a run up the flank and cross the ball to the middle of the 18-yard box, where Ramella slammed it home for a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute. In the 13th minute of the second half, Ramella had his shot rejected, regained control of the ball and slid it to the right side of the box for Seybuck. After going to the ground, Seybuck, poked the ball with his left foot into the far left corner of the goal for a 2-0 lead.
Senior goalkeeper Chase Lee saved three shots to record the shutout, including a diving stop on reigning Shore Sports Insider Player of the Year Sean Moore midway through the second half.
No. 5 Middletown South 5, Holmdel 0
Senior Connor Saul opened his season with a hat trick and the Eagles began their defense of the Shore Conference Tournament championship with a one-sided win over the Hornets.
Sophomores Tommy Niosi and Miles Barrett each added their first varsity goal in the win and senior Grant Pipercic picked up a pair of assists for Middletown South. Niosi also dished out an assist in his varsity debut.
No. 1 CBA 3, St. John Vianney 0
Senior Justin Arias broke open the scoring in the 23rd minute and senior Chase Kowalczyk scored a goal and assisted another in the second half as the Colts (1-0, 1-0) opened their season with a road win over the Lancers (0-2, 0-1).
Kowalczyk scored in the 57th minute to extend CBA’s lead to 2-0, then set up a goal by fellow senior Shane Landau in the 65th to complete the scoring.
Class A Central
No. 9 Manasquan 1, Long Branch 0 (OT)
Senior Kai Lomas buried a direct kick midway through the first overtime period and the Warriors pulled off an opening-day win over the Green Wave via the golden goal.
No. 7 Freehold Township 1, No. 10 Ocean 0
Junior Chase Melcher finished off a pass from senior Jayden Doaman in the early minutes of the match and the Patriots (2-0, 1-0) held on to top the Spartans (0-1, 0-1) in a battle for early positioning for two ranked teams from Class A Central.
Class A South
Toms River South 4, Brick Memorial 0
A red card for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity gave Toms River South its first goal and the Indians (1-1, 0-1) broke the game open with three goals in the final seven minutes to take down the Mustangs (0-2, 0-1).
Senior Nate Johnson headed a shot headed for the goal and a deliberate hand ball set up the ensuing penalty kick, which freshman Ryder Salzer buried to give Toms River South a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute — the first of two goals on penalty kicks for Salzer.
The Indians finally added an insurance goal in the 74th, when junior Lucas Cottrell forced an own goal with a cross into the box after beating a defender. Salzer added a second penalty kick in the 77th after drawing the foul in the box and Johnson finished his opportunity in the 78th by finishing a pass from junior Giuseppe Raso.
No. 8 Toms River North 5, Point Boro 1
Senior Chris Ruggiero scored the first of five goals by different scorers as the Mariners (1-1, 1-0) rolled through the Panthers (0-1, 0-1) to pick up their first win of the season.
Senior Manuele Lubrano, senior Edwin Hernandez, senior Eduardo Parra and junior Flo Yvensley each added a goal for Toms River North. Junior Colin Leschinski scored the Point Boro goal to pull within 2-1.
Class B North
Red Bank 2, Asbury Park 0
Senior Brian Garcia assisted head-ball goals by sophomore Antonio Gonzalez and senior Alex Perez and the Bucs blanked the Blue Bishops to open the season.
Gonzalez slammed in a cross from Garcia in the second minute and Perez gave his team some breathing room by heading in a corner kick from Garcia late in the second half.
Howell 5, Freehold Boro 0
Junior Tom Beurskens and senior Andrew Holmes each scored two goals and the Rebels (2-0, 1-0) rolled to a win over the Colonials (0-1, 0-1) to win their second straight to open the year.
Beurskens scored the first two goals of the game and assisted the third by Holmes in the 28th minute. Holmes scored his second goal three minutes into the second half off a corner kick by junior Milli Martinez.
Sophomore Max Gaudious assisted the first goal of the game by Beurskens and later capped the scoring with a goal in the 55th minute.
Middletown North 2, Wall 1 (OT)
Senior Ryan Otero scored the golden goal and the Lions knocked off the Crimson Knights for a season-opening win and a second straight victory over Wall dating back to 2025.
Middletown North and Wall traded first-half goals, with senior Andrew Polanco scoring for Middletown North off a pass from junior Caden Brown and senior Nick Herrera scoring the lone goal for Wall.
Class B Central
Neptune 4, Monmouth 1
Sophomore Tevenerri Verdieu opened the scoring in the 20th minute and capped it with a penalty kick in the 62nd to pace the Scarlet Fliers to an opening-day win over the Falcons.
Senior Hunter Reynolds and junior D.J. Green each scored before halftime to push Neptune’s lead to 3-0 and Monmouth got on the board early in the second half on a penalty kick by sophomore Lucas Alves.
Matawan 4, Henry Hudson 2
Senior Nicco Romero scored two goals and senior Ryan Hart and sophomore Samuel Youssef each added a goal and an assist to lead the Huskies past the Admirals in the season-opener for both teams.
St. Rose 5, Keyport 0
Senior Ben Tilley struck for a hat trick and an assist to lead the Purple Roses to a shutout win over the Red Raiders to open the season. Freshmen Anthony Suozzo and Cole Grecco each added a goal, with Suozzo also assisting a goal.
Class B South
Lacey 4, Brick 2
Junior Paul Guerriero scored the first of four goals by four different Lacey players and the Lions (2-0, 1-0) held off the Green Dragons (0-1, 0-1) to collect their second win in as many games to open the season.
Guerriero tracked down a long pass from sophomore Ben Catino for the finish in the 17th minute and Lacey stretched its lead to 2-0 in the 23rd on a header by junior Aiden Tallman off a cross from junior Brian Hayes. Brick cut the deficit in half in the final minute of the first half on the first of two goals by senior Nana Boakye-Yiadom.
Hayes again laid out a cross to set up a Lacey goal early in the second half, this time landing on the head of senior Jack Clancy for a goal three minutes into the second half. Sophomore Tristan DeRosa capped the scoring by nailing a free kick in the 48th minute to push the Lacey lead to 4-1. Boakye-Yiadom struck again in the 65th for his second goal.
Jackson 2, Central 0
Senior Serhii Hryhoriak broke up a scoreless deadlock with a penalty kick in the 49th minute and sophomore Tyler Felicelli later added to the lead with Jackson’s second goal as the Jaguars (2-0, 1-0) grounded the Golden Eagles (0-1, 0-1) for their second win in as many games to open the season.
Felicelli’s insurance goal came in the 68th minute off a pass from junior Anthony Materia. Senior Logan Schlenk saved 10 shots in goal to earn the shutout.
Point Beach 6, Manchester 0
Senior Brody Powers kicked off his season with a hat trick and the Garnet Gulls (1-0, 1-0) bulldozed the Hawks (1-1, 0-1) to open their season with a convincing win.
Powers scored twice in the first half and capped the scoring in the second, while sophomore Cole Mayer scored the third Point Beach goal before assisting the second goal by Powers, which stretched the Garnet Gulls lead to 4-0. Junior Maximus Ramirez assisted a pair of goals while junior Tyler Morgan and senior Landon Hoberman each notched a goal for Point Beach.
Class C South
Lakewood 4, Pinelands 2
Junior Olin Cortez scored two goals to go with an assist and senior Jonathan Bravo added a goal and two assists as the Piners rode four first-half goals to a win over the Wildcats.
Sophomore Stalen Laureano opened the scoring in the fourth minute by firing home a shot off a pass from Cortez that set up Laureano near the six-yard box. Fifteen minutes later, Bravo clanged the post with a shot and Cortez followed it up for the finish.
Sophomore Steven Amato cut the Lakewood lead in half with a head for Pinelands in the 30th minute, but Lakewood answered three minutes later when Bravo converted a cross from fellow senior William Alejo. In the 35th, Cortez headed in a long cross from Bravo for a 4-1 Piners lead.
Myron Sarfo pounced on a mistake on the Lakewood back line to score the second Pinelands goal in the 75th minute.

Non-Conference
Steinert 2, No. 2 Marlboro 1
Senior Nick Hramyka scored with five minutes to go to pull Marlboro within a goal and the Mustangs produced two more chances in the final minutes, but the Spartans held on for the season-opening win, with Raffaele Tramo scoring the game-winner on a free kick in the 72nd minute.
Marlboro had a potential equalizer disallowed for offsides and fired a shot wide of the frame off a set piece in the final seconds.
