Monmouth County Tournament

Marty Kenney Sr. Bracket

Semifinals

(2) Red Bank Catholic 11, (3) Colts Neck 5

Senior shortstop Max Dantoni contributed to rallies in each of his first two at-bats, then slammed a two-run home run after a rain delay in the middle of the fourth inning to send the Caseys on their way to a semifinal win over the Cougars. RBC advances to the Monmouth County Tournament final for the third straight year and will face top-seeded CBA in a rematch of last year’s championship game, won by the Colts.

Charlie Stumberger opened the scoring with an RBI single and Dantoni scored on a back-end of a first-and-third double-steal to make it 2-0 in the bottom of the first. Stumberger then smacked an RBI single into left-centerfield for a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third and A.J. Sciametta followed with a two-run single for a 5-0 lead.

Colts Neck broke up the shutout thanks to a two-run single by Ryan Rude to pull the Cougars within 5-2. The game entered a 25-minute rain delay after the third out of the top of the fourth inning and in the bottom of the fourth, Dantoni crushed a deep drive to leftfield that stayed inside the foul pole and plated two more runs for a 7-2 Caseys lead.

RBC nearly ended the game with a four-run rally in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by an RBI single by Dylan Passo.

Regular Season

Class B South

No. 8 Point Beach 9, No. 7 Manasquan 5

Junior Antonio Acevedo highlighted a six-run fifth inning with a two-run single and pitched 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to lead the Garnet Gulls over the Warriors, clinching Point Beach the outright Class B South championship for its third straight piece of an outright division title.

Manasquan jumped out to a 2-0 lead on an RBI single by Dylan Vowteras and an bases-loaded walk by Tristan Condon, but Point Beach answered with an RBI triple by Dan Lubach in the bottom of the inning.

Point Beach took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI ground out by Lubach and a run-scoring error, but Manasquan struck right back with three in the top of the fourth to retake a 5-3 lead. Matt Antonucci tied the game on an RBI single and Caden Eastmond belted a two-run double to centerfield to break the tie.

Lubach drove in his third run of the game with an RBI single that cut Manasquan’s lead to 5-4 and both Carson Pfeifer and Davin Marquez worked back-to-back walks with the bases loaded and one out to give Point Beach a 6-5 lead. Acevedo followed with his two-run single and Tommy Conroy capped the inning with another bases-loaded walk to score Marquez.

Toms River South 11, Brick 6

Evan Schmidt cleared the bases with a go-ahead, three-run double in the bottom of the fourth inning as part of a three-hit night and the Indians out-slugged the Green Dragons to keep their hopes of a Class C South division title alive.

Brayden Heatter hit an RBI double to open the scoring for Brick and Shawn McLaughlin hit RBI singles in both the first and third innings to help Brick jump out to a 4-1 lead.

Toms River South inched closer in the bottom of the third on back-to-back RBI singles by Chase Tworkoski and Karsin Migliori, cutting the Brick lead to 4-3. In the bottom of the fourth, Toms River South loaded the bases for Schmidt, who rocketed a double to the left to score all three runners and give the Indians a 6-4 lead. Toms River South added a run on a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch to go up 8-4.

Brick cut its deficit in half with an RBI triple by Sean Savannah, followed by an RBI single by Taylor Cavanaugh to make it 8-6. Ruben Febres struck back for Toms River South in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run single off the school in right-centerfield, followed by another RBI single by Tworkoski for an 11-6 lead.

Febres took over on the mound to start the sixth inning in place of starter Aiden Moylan and worked around four hits to close out the victory.

Brick can still clinch the outright Class C South championship by winning two of its final three division games vs. Lacey (9-7), Barnegat (9-8) and Pinelands (4-14). Toms River South would win a share of the division title if Brick wins just one of those games and the Indians would need Brick to go 0-3 for Toms River South to win the division outright.
