First Round
(5) Middletown North 15, (21) St. Rose 6
After falling behind, 6-0, through the first 2 1/2 innings, the Lions scored 15 unanswered runs to race past the Purple Roses and into the MCT quarterfinals Saturday at Ranney.
Zach Hampton drove in six runs — all over the course of innings three through five — to lead the offensive breakout. He got the Lions on the board with an RBI single in the third, knocked in two with a single in the fourth and cleared the bases for a three-run double in a four-run fifth inning that stretched Middletown North’s lead to 12-6.
Alipio Figueroa also slugged an RBI double in Middletown North’s six-run third inning and catcher Mike Hallard checked in with an RBI single during the Lions’ game-tying rally.
Ryan Clark led an aggressive base-running effort with three of Middletown North’s 10 stolen bases in the game. Charlie Juliano pitched three innings of scoreless middle relief to earn his first win.

Ocean County Tournament
Preliminary Round
(17) Pinelands 7, (16) Manchester 5
Nate Sofield hit a tie-breaking RBI double in the top of the seventh and the Wildcats held on to beat the Hawks after a high-scoring seventh inning — snapping a nine-game losing streak for Pinelands and sending the Wildcats to the Saturday’s OCT first round at top-seeded Brick Memorial.
Jacob Haywood, T.J. Nugent and Ethan Kuna each added an RBI single in the seventh to stretch the Pinelands lead to 7-3 and those insurance runs proved valuable when Manchester mounted a rally in the bottom of the inning. The first two batters of the inning reached on a walk and an error and although both scored — Damian Dowling on a sacrifice fly by Brenden Spaziano and Mike Fink on a wild pitch — the tying run never came to the plate against winning pitcher Landon Seidenfaden.

No. 1 CBA 10, No. 2 Red Bank Catholic 0 (6 Innings)
Dan Tsimbinos opened the scoring with an RBI single, broke it open with a two-run double in the fifth and caught a gem of a start by left-hander Sean Loggie as the Colts salvaged a regular-season split with the rival Caseys.
Dan Russo singled home a run in the first and capped the three-run rally with his aggressive base-running. Russo took second base on the throw home following his single, advanced to third base on a ground out to third base and sprinted home on a wild pitch that did not get to the backstop.
Colin Hoverter made it 4-0 with a sacrifice fly in the second and Jared Matejicka tacked on the fifth run with an RBI single in the fifth. Tsimbinos roped a double into left-center to score two and make it 7-0 and the Colts tacked on two more with run-scoring singles by Russo and Ryan Wetmore. The run on Russo’s single scored on an error in the outfield.
Matejicka hit his second RBI single to end the game in the sixth inning.
Loggie’s 10 strikeouts set a career-high and his performance was officially his first career complete game.

Matawan 7, Ocean 6
Bryan McCartin smacked two triples, including a tie-breaking, bases-clearing triple in the bottom of the fourth inning that set the Huskies on course for a win over the Spartans that snapped a seven-game losing streak while also snapping Ocean’s eight-game winning streak.
Colin McGeehan added an RBI single in the fourth to put Matawan ahead, 5-1, and also stroked an RBI single to make it 6-3 in the bottom of the sixth. Liam Corbett capped the Matawan scoring with an RBI single that scored McGeehan with what proved to be the winning run.
Ocean loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the seventh inning and moved a run closer on a sacrifice fly by Dillon Schneider. McGeehan induced a pop out for the second out, bringing Ben Robinson to the plate as the tying run. Both runners advanced one base on a passed ball to give Ocean runners on second and third with two out and Robinson brought both home with an RBI single and stole second base to move the tying run into scoring position.
McGeehan bounced back with a strikeout to end the game and a long streak for each team.

No. 7 Colts Neck 6, Howell 5
John Glusko ripped a two-out double down the leftfield line to score Joe Pignatelli from first base with the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning and Jack Dugo retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning to give the Cougars a come-from-behind win over the Rebels.
Howell committed five errors in the game, with four coming in the two innings during which Colts Neck scored its runs. That included three in the five-run Colts Neck fifth, which opened the door for a go-ahead three-run home run by Ronan Kiely that put the Cougars ahead, 5-3.
The Rebels struck back in the bottom of the sixth, when Matt Vetrano delivered a two-run single to tie the game, 5-5, with one out in the frame.
Kurtis Lovegren retired the first two batters of the top of the seventh, but an error allowed Pignatelli to reach and Glusko followed with a hard ground ball inside the third-base bag and into the corner to score the winning run.

Manasquan 9, Central 0
R.T. Runge and Matt Antonucci drove in Manasquan’s first two runs and later combined on back-to-back homers during a sixth-run fourth as the Warriors rode more strong pitching and plenty of scoring to a win over the Golden Eagles.
Runge opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first and Antonucci ripped an RBI single to extend the lead to 2-0 in the third. The was all the offense Manasquan would need thanks to a trio of pitchers — Chase Kaplan, Runge and John Canning — that kept Central’s capable lineup quiet during a combined two-hit shutout.
Dylan Vowteras and Connor Voelksen each hit an RBI single to push the Manasquan lead to 4-0 in the fourth and Antonucci broke the game open with a three-run home run to left-centerfield. Two pitches later, Runge crushed a solo blast to left for an 8-0 Warriors lead.

Manchester 7, Barnegat 4
The Hawks struck for six runs in the top of the fourth inning thanks to three Barnegat errors and survived a seventh-inning scare to lock down the win over the Bengals.
Colin McAllister had the lone RBI single in Manchester’s six-run rally and Damian Dowling singled home a run in the top of the third to tie the game, 1-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, Barnegat cut a 7-2 deficit to 7-4 on a two-out RBI double by Declan Brain and a two-out RBI single by Nick Malinowski. The Bengals loaded the bases, but Manchester turned to Tom Meyer to record the final out.

Keansburg 4, Henry Hudson 3
Mikey Clayton hit a game-winning RBI single to rightfield with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning and the Titans rallied past the Admirals to take over first place in the Shore Conference Coastal division race.
Keansburg starter James Valle took a shutout into the sixth inning, but Henry Hudson struck for three runs in the top of the inning to take a 3-2 lead. Nathan Boms delivered a clutch, two-out, two-run double to tie the game and Marshall Colangelo made it back-to-back run-scoring doubles with a go-ahead RBI knock to put the Admirals on top, 3-2.
Teddy Fariello retired Keansburg in order in the bottom of the sixth and entered the bottom of the seventh having retired six of the seven batters he faced, but tasked with no margin for error in a one-run game. In the top of the seventh, Valle set down the first two Henry Hudson batters, but an error with two out forced him out of the game with his pitch count at 111. Mike Burke came on to pitch and after Jeter Woods stole second base, Burke notched an inning-ending strikeout to send the game to the bottom of the inning.
Fariello retired the leadoff batter in the bottom of the inning, but Giovanni Fontan struck for a one-out infield single and raced to second on a throwing error to start the rally. Issiah Massey followed with a bunt single that placed runners on the corners and stole his way into the scoring position as the tying run.
Fariello then coaxed a shallow fly out that was not deep enough to score Fontan with the tying run, leaving the game up to Clayton. Before Clayton could strike, Fontan scored on a wild pitch to tie the game and take some of the pressure off Clayton. With a 1-2 count, Clayton flipped a shallow fly ball into rightfield that found grass and Massey scored the winning run.
