No. 4 Ranney 3, No. 8 Middletown North 2 (9 Innings)

Sophomore shortstop Ricky Lopez hit a game-tying, two-out, two-run single in the top of the seventh inning and Nate Fuller hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth as the Panthers (1-2, 1-2) rallied to beat the Lions (2-1, 0-1) for their first win of the season.

Ranney was down to its final strike three times in the top of the seventh, but loaded the bases to set up Lopez (2-for-4) for his clutch two-run hit, which gave him two RBI in each of his first three games to start the season.

In the top of the ninth, sophomore Robbie Wrobel led off with a single, advanced on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Fuller’s sacrifice fly that proved to be the game-winner. Middletown North put runners on the corners with two out in the bottom of the ninth, but Noah Hynes finished off three scoreless innings of relief to earn the victory.

Zach Hampton pitched four scoreless innings in his first start of the season for Middletown North. The senior right-hander allowed two hits, no walks and one hit batter while striking out five on 63 pitches.

Class B North

No. 6 Colts Neck 5, Matawan 0

Jack Dugo tripled and scored the game’s first run on an RBI single by Ronan Kiely in the top of the fourth and that proved to be all the offense Colts Neck starter Ryan Spencer needed in a combined shutout win for the Cougars over the Huskies.

Dugo also finished off the combined shutout with two scoreless innings after Spencer struck out nine in five scoreless, two-hit innings.

After Kiely singled home Dugo to open the scoring, Joe Pignatelli plated Kiely with an RBI ground out for the second run of the Colts Neck fourth. The Cougars later added three insurance runs in the top of the sixth, with Ryan Rude and Dan Annunziata each singling home a run as part of the rally.

Class C North

Neptune 7, Freehold Twp. 5

Hunter Morgan pitched a complete game on the mound and delivered the knockout blow with a solo home run in the top of the seventh that helped the Scarlet Fliers finish off the Patriots for their first win of the season.

Neptune surged in front with two runs in the fourth to tie the game, followed by two in the top of the fifth to take a 6-4 lead. Jordan Torres singled home a run in the fourth, followed by a game-tying sacrifice fly by Jack Gamba-Ellis. In the fifth, the Scarlet Fliers drew four walks while making just one out, with Javier Lemus working a four-pitch walk with the bases loaded to force home the go-ahead run. A wild pitch on a strike three with two out allowed Javier Gordon to score the second run of the inning and make it 6-4, Neptune.

Raritan 3, Red Bank 1

Shortstop Travis Evernham scorched a two-run single to centerfield to open the scoring in the top of the first and Alan Warren pitched six strong innings to make the clutch hit stand up as the Rockets held off the Bucs on the road.

All of the scoring in Tuesday’s game came in the first inning, with Raritan adding a run in the top of the inning on a ground out by Matt Melendez and Red Bank getting a run back on two-out RBI single by Chris Doody. Warren took over from there, allowing just one hit the rest of the way and striking out 10 over six innings before handing the ball over the Brendan Evernham for the seventh inning.
