Class B South

No. 7 Manasquan 8, No. 8 Point Beach 2

No. 9 hitter Keegan Hertel smashed a game-tying two-run triple in the bottom of the second — the first of five extra-base hits by the Warriors in an 8-2 win over the Garnet Gulls that keeps their hopes of a Class B South championship alive.

Point Beach pushed a run across in each of the first two innings against Manasquan junior left-hander Chase Kaplan, but Kaplan settled in and did not allow a hit over his final four innings of work.

Caden Eastmond led off the bottom of the third inning with a double and scored what proved to be the tying run on a sacrifice fly by shortstop Tristan Condon, which put the Warriors ahead, 3-2.

Manasquan put the game out of reach with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, with catcher Connor Voelksen and Dylan Vowteras each singling in a run and Eastmond plating the third on a sacrifice fly to make it 6-2. Vowteras capped the scoring with an RBI triple to rightfield and scored on an overthrow to third.

Point Beach and Manasquan are scheduled to meet again on Friday in Point Pleasant. Point Beach can clinch the outright Class B South championship with a win, while Manasquan can move into a first-place tie with the Garnet Gulls by completing a regular-season sweep on Friday. Each team has one division game remaining next week — Manasquan at home vs. Jackson Liberty and Point Beach at home vs. Toms River North.

Class C South

Brick 8, Toms River South 0

Sean Savannah took a no-hitter into the sixth inning while Chris Quick and James Donoghue each blasted solo home runs as the Green Dragons blanked the Indians to move within one win of clinching the Class C South championship while also handing Toms River South ace Aiden Lynch his first loss.

Brick jumped on Lynch for three runs in the bottom of the first inning, which included back-to-back doubles by Quick and Brayden Heatter. The first run scored on a wild pitch during Heatter’s at-bat, then the Green Dragons shortstop made it 2-0 with his RBI double. Quick then launched his sixth home run of the year to make it 4-0 in the bottom of the second and Donoghue went deep for a solo bomb in the bottom of the third to make it 5-0.

Brick can clinch the outright division championship when the two teams meet for a second time Friday at Ken Frank Baseball Stadium on the campus of Toms River South. The Green Dragons last won a division title in 2011,
