OIB Ortho Girls Basketball Team of the Week: Toms River East

2025 OIB Ortho/Shore Sports Insider Girls Basketball Team of the Week Series

It looked like Toms River East was entering this season as a rebuilding year, but that has not been the case.  After graduating seven seniors and 82% of their scoring from last year, the Raiders are 15-3 on the season and currently have a 12 game winning streak, the longest in the Shore Conference.

Two of their three leading scorers are sophomores who saw limited minutes last season. Kacey Briles is averaging 9.6 points per game and Libby Dickman is averaging 8.8 points per game for TRE. Senior Grace Crowley, who had scored only 121 points entering this season, is averaging 10.7 points per game and leads the team with 183 points on the season.

Last week the Raiders went 3-0, which extended their win streak to nine games. They defeated Manchester and Donovan Catholic in division games to improve to 6-0 in Class A South. Since then they have clinched the division title and sit at 8-0.

Toms River East also won one of their biggest games of the season last week when they defeated No. 10 Barnegat. Barnegat was on a seven game win streak going into the non-divisional game. The Raiders battled back after trailing by six points, 33-27 at the end of the third quarter to win 51-47. They outscored Barnegat on their home court 24-14 in the fourth quarter.

Three players scored double-digits in that game with Dickman posting a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Adrianna Cruz scored 12 points and Crowley added 11 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and had 7 steals.

Another player who played an important role in the the Barnegat win and throughout the season is freshman Brooke Gathman. She scored 6 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and had 5 blocks in the win. Gathman is one of the top shot blockers in the Shore Conference this season, averaging 3.6 blocks per game to go with her 5 points per game.
