Shore Conference Tournament
Quarterfinals
(5) Rumson-Fair Haven 7, (4) Ranney 4
Casper Billington and Dan McElduf hit back-to-back solo homers to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead and junior right-hander Hunter Beattie escaped a bases-loaded, none-out jam in the sixth before closing out the game on the mound to give the Bulldogs a revenge win over the Panthers.
Ranney won at Rumson in the Monmouth County Tournament semifinals, but Rumson got the better of the Panthers to reach the SCT semifinals on Thursday, when they will host No. 17 Freehold Township.
The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a two-run home run by freshman Brody McCorkle in the bottom of the first before Rumson sliced a run off that lead with a sacrifice fly by Jack Gyimesi. Billington then went deep to centerfield an inning later and two pitches later, McElduf lifted an opposite-field homer out to left.
The Bulldogs continued to add on over the next three innings, with two bases-loaded walks by McEldug and Aiden Dill in the top of the fourth, an RBI single by Miles Martin with two out in the fifth and another two-out RBI single by Brady Williams in the top of the sixth to push the lead up to 7-2.
Rumson starter Cooper Jones walked the bases loaded and handed the ball over to Hunter Beattie, who uncorked a wild pitch to score Braden Cox, walked the first official batter he faced, then hit David Cantin to force in another run. Beattie then locked in to notch a strikeout, then induced a shallow fly out, followed by another strikeout to strand the bases loaded with Rumson’s lead at 7-4.
Beattie retired the side in order in the bottom of the seventh, punctuating his save with a pair of strikeouts to lock down the win.

(6) CBA 10, (14) Point Boro 3
Jayden Matejicka continued his May tear with two two-run singles and four stolen bases and the Colts cruised past the Panthers and into the SCT semifinals Thursday against No. 15 Colts Neck.
CBA broke through on an error in the bottom of the second and added five more runs with two out, starting with Matejicka’s two-run single to left that made it 3-0. Ryan Wetmore added a two-run single in the inning and the sixth run scored on a passed ball.
Matejicka ripped a two-run single through the left side to extend the lead to 8-0 in the third and twin brother Jared Matejicka singled home a pair in the fifth to grow CBA’s lead to 10-2.
Point Boro avoided the 10-run rule thanks to a two-run double by Aidan Dombrowsky with two-out in the top of the fifth.
CBA starter Dan Pardini allowed just one hit and navigated six walks while working into the fifth inning. Declan Doogan surrendered the two runs in the fifth, then rebounded by striking out the side in order in the sixth.

(15) Colts Neck 7, (7) Howell 6 (8 innings)
With Colts Neck down to its final out, Joe Pignatelli drilled a go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the seventh and the winning run scored on a wild pitch in the eighth, giving the Cougars a thrilling, come-from-behind win over the Rebels that sends them to the SCT semifinal Thursday at No. 6 CBA.
Ryan Rude started the rally by slamming a two-run shot with one out in the seventh to pull Colts Neck within 5-4. Andrew Morin recorded the second out on a pop out and worked his way to a 2-2 count against R.J. Conover, who ripped a single to the left side to keep Colts Neck alive.
Pignatelli then jumped on the first pitch he saw, launching it over the leftfield fence for the g0-ahead home run.
Howell rebounded from giving up the lead by mounting a comeback in the bottom of the seventh. After an error to lead off the inning, Jack Quinn singled to centerfield to put two runners on with none out. Ryan Spencer came back to strike out the next two batters and, like Morin, pitched his way to a 2-2 count against Connor Acker with a chance to end the game.
Acker smoked a single through the middle to chase home Matt Vetrano from second with the tying run.
Catcher Matt Clark led off the top of the eighth with a hit-by-pitch and Dan Annunziata sacrificed him to second base. Jack Dugo flied out to rightfield to move the winning run to third and scored on a wild pitch with Rude at the plate. Rude went on to single for his second hit in the last two innings.
Jake Liotti hammered a one-out double in the bottom of the eighth, but Spencer induced a pair of fly outs to close out the game.
Rude and Conover got Colts Neck on the board in the top of the first, with Rude delivering an RBI single and Conover a sacrifice fly.
Howell took control of the game by scoring in four consecutive innings from the second to the fifth. Jack Quinn’s single in the second scored a run thanks to an error in the outfield and Ryan Todisco and Matt Vetrano hit back-to-back RBI singles to give the Rebels a 3-2 lead in the third. Derek Liotti extended the lead to 4-2 with a two-out RBI single in fourth and Antonio Magistrello slugged an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth to stretch the lead to 5-2.
Howell starter Jackson Vetrano allowed just one hit over five innings, but Colts Neck drove his pitch count up to 100 by the end of the fifth thanks to the seven walks the Cougars drew off the Rebels senior ace.

(17) Freehold Township 7, (8) Toms River East 0
The Patriots exploded for seven runs in the top of the first inning and senior right-hander Jackson Redmond fired his sixth straight seven-inning complete game, this time authoring a four-hit shutout with no walks and 12 strikeouts to propel Freehold Township past Toms River East and into the SCT semifinals for the first time since 2006.
Two batters into the game, Freehold Township had all the scoring it would need for Redmond. George Burdge led off with a single and stormed home on an RBI double by fellow junior outfielder Nick Stabile. Two walks loaded the bases with one out and after a second run scored on a passed ball, Aiden Rivera beat out an infield single to pick up an RBI while giving Freehold Township a 3-1 lead.
Kobe Dancel and Ed Gudaitis made it three straight RBI singles by driving in a run each for a 5-0 lead and two more runs came around on an RBI single by catch er Nick Schicchi, with Gudaitis scoring on an outfield error after Dancel scored on the hit.
Raiders junior Dominic Roma took over for starter James Whalen with one out in the first and silenced Freehold Township from the second inning through the end of the game, finishing with no runs allowed on four hits and no walks with nine strikeouts in his 6 2/3 innings..
Nothing was enough for Toms River East to combat Redmond, who has allowed three runs during his string of six straight complete games and all three runs are unearned. In those 42 innings during the streak, Redmond has struck out 63 without issuing a single walk. He was coming off a 73-pitch complete game in his team’s first-round win at Southern on Wednesday, during which he also pitched a four-hit shutout and struck out five.
Freehold Township will travel to play No. 5 seed and Class B North division foe Rumson-Fair Haven Thursday in the SCT semifinal round. The Bulldogs defeated Freehold Township twice in early April, including the last game that Redmond lost or allowed an earned run — a 5-4 Rumson win at Freehold Township.
