Ocean County Tournament

(16) Donovan Catholic 8, (17) Lakewood 2

Cris Rosario got Lakewood off to a fast start with a two-run home run in the top of the first, but the Griffins scored four runs in back-to-back innings and Rocco Padula settled to throw six strong innings to help Donovan Catholic advance to Saturday’s round-one game at top-seeded Toms River East.

Henry Rezai got Donovan Catholic on the board with an RBI triple in the bottom of the third and made it 6-2 in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double. Colin Johnson tied the game with an RBI single that scored Rezai and Evan Bailey gave the Griffins a 3-2 lead with an RBI single to score Johnson later in the third.

Class A North

No. 8 Manalapan 8, Middletown South 2

Freshman Josh Sosinov hit an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning and senior Anthony Foti helped break the game open with a two-run single in the fifth as the Braves completed a sweep of the Eagles for their fourth straight win.

Noah Feldman took a shutout into the seventh inning and retired the first two batters of the inning before issuing a walk and back-to-back RBI hits by Matt Korth and Jack Dougherty. Feldman induced a fly out to finish the complete game and his third win of the season.

No. 3 Red Bank Catholic 10, Howell 4

After Matt Vetrano gave Howell a 3-1 lead with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, Luke Lonczak answered with a game-tying, two-run blast in the top of the second and Drew Cannon broke the tie with a solo shot to lead off the third as the Caseys slugged their way past the Rebels.

Charlie Stumberger extended the lead to 6-3 in the third with an RBI single that plated a second run thanks to a bobble in the outfield. Howell drew a run closer when Ryan Todisco — who hit two home runs in a double in a loss at RBC on Tuesday — clocked an RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth. RBC pulled away with three more runs in the top of the sixth on back-to-back hit-by-pitches with the bases loaded an an RBI single by Lonczak — all with two out.

Lonczak’s home run was his fourth of the season and marked the second straight game in which he has gone deep.

Ranney 3, No. 1 CBA 1

Robbie Wrobel delivered a two-out RBI single in the third and executed a straight steal of home with two out in the sixth, while fellow junior Justin Kauffman pitched a four-hit complete game to give the Panthers a second win over the Colts in the last three days.

Brody Mauro belted a fence-aided solo home run to open the scoring in the bottom of the third inning. On a 0-2 count, he drove the ball to right-centerfield, where CBA centerfielder Alex Fiore snared it in his glove just before crashing into the fence. The impact of Fiore hitting the fence, however, jarred the ball free and it dropped on the other side of the boundary for a home run.

Ricky Lopez — who hit a game-winning home run in the top of the eighth inning in Tuesday’s win over CBA — singled, stole second base and scored on Wrobel’s two-out RBI single to left later in the third.

CBA pulled even on a sacrifice fly by catcher Griffin Kilcullen in the top of the fourth. Ranney finally got its insurance run in the bottom of the seventh thanks to some bold base-running by Wrobel, who stole second base and reached third on a wild pitch. With two out, the count 1-2 on Braden Cox and CBA starter Dylan Iwanyk set up in the wind-up, Wrobel broke for home and slid in under the tag of Kilcullen to give Ranney a 3-1 lead.

Colin Hoverter doubled with two out in the top of the seventh for his second hit of the game, but Kauffman induced a ground ball to Lopez at shortstop for the final out.

Freehold Township 3, Raritan 1

Seton Hall commit Jackson Redmond and the Patriots got a dose of revenge by overcoming a no-hitter by Boston College commit Will Meehan to beat the Rockets on the road.

Last season, Redmond pitched a no-hitter at Raritan, but the Rockets spoiled it by winning, 3-0, with Meehan getting the start on the mound in that game as well and pitching a combined one-hitter along with 2025 graduate Alan Warren.

This time around, Redmond scattered eight hits, did not walk a batter and struck out 10 while keeping the Rockets off the scoreboard outside of three straight singles to open the bottom of the sixth. Jake Ricchiuti singled home Meehan to make it 3-1 and executed a double-steal with Eric McCartney to put runners on second and third with none out. Redmond then struck out the next batter for the first out, got the second on a pop-out on the infield and ended the threat with another strikeout.

Redmond closed out the win with a perfect seventh, including a pair of strikeouts.

Freehold Township took advantage of two walks and a hit-by-pitch to load the bases in the top of the first inning. A wild pitch scored the first Freehold Township run and Julian Polo stayed in a rundown long enough to allow Kobe Dancel to score on the back-end of a double-steal. Tom Sciarra created the third Freehold Township run by drawing a two-out walk, stealing both second and third and scoring on an error.

No. 4 Rumson-Fair Haven 6, Monmouth 5

Rumson scratched across two runs in the top of the seventh to regain the lead and Brady Dill pitched a perfect bottom of the inning for the save as the Bulldogs beat the Falcons to become the first Shore Conference team to 10 wins this season.

Brady Williams led off the top of the seventh with a single, Dan McElduf followed with a walk and after a pop-out, both runners stole to put runners on second and third base with one out. Jack Gyimesi plated the tying run with an RBI ground out to shortstop and a two-out error scored McElduf with the winning run.

An error also opened the door for a three-run inning by Monmouth in the bottom of the sixth, which gave the Falcons a 5-4 lead. Beckett Langdon tied the game with an RBI single and Eddie Segarra gave Monmouth the lead with a sacrifice fly.

D.J. Ylagan hit two RBI doubles for Rumson, one to open the scoring in the top of the second and another to put Rumson ahead, 4-2, in the sixth.
