NJSIAA Tournament
Sectional Semifinals
South Jersey Non-Public A
(5) CBA 1, (1) Immaculata 0 (8 innings)
After being hit in the face by a pitch in his first at bat, junior Alex Fiore made a diving catch that saved two runs in the fifth inning and crushed the tie-breaking solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to deliver the Colts a win over the top-seeded Spartans, sending them to the sectional final for the second straight year.
Fiore took a pitch to the face that hit both the ear-flap of his helmet and park of his cheek while attempting to bunt in the top of the third inning. In his next plate appearance, he again squared to bunt and laid down a successful sacrifice that did not yield a run. In the bottom of the fifth, with Immaculata runners on second and third base and two out, Fiore ran down a slicing drive to the rightfield corner by Spartans clean-up hitter Owen Rivenbark and made a sliding catch on the far side of the line to end the inning.
Both teams went scoreless through seven innings and in the top of the eighth, Fiore led off and jumped on a hanging breaking ball from freshman Bryson Auten, launching it over the leftfield wall for the lone run of the game.
Junior right-hander Declan Doogan pitched a one-two-three bottom of the eighth to close out his fourth win of the season with the aide of a 5-4-3 double-play on an attempted sacrifice bunt, started by third baseman Michael Knox and turned by second baseman Dylan Reynholds.
Doogan took over for starter Dan Pardini with two out and runners on first and third, which became second on third when courtesy runner Nate McGann took second base on defensive indifference. On an 0-2 pitch, Rivenbark lofted the ball out to right, when Fiore made his run-saving grab.
Pardini extended his personal streak to 25 2/3 innings this season without allowing an earned run. The senior left-hander has also allowed only one unearned run on the year.

(2) St. Augustine 7, (3) Red Bank Catholic 4
Penn State commit and newly-crowned New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year Alex Weingartner crushed a game-winning grand slam in the bottom of the seventh and the Hermits added another memorable chapter to the rivalry with the Caseys by stunning RBC in walk-off fashion to reach the sectional final.
RBC took a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh, when Jake Frankel hammered a leadoff double and scored from second on a bunt single by Miles Nessan. St. Augustine limited the damaged by turning a double-play on another bunt attempt by RBC, then mounted its threat in the bottom of the inning thanks to three consecutive walks with none out to bring up Weingartner. The senior centerfielder ripped a 1-2 pitch over the leftfield wall to set off the celebration.
Nessan helped RBC take the lead in the top of the fourth, when he drew a walk, stole third base after advancing to second on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Brayden Harmata. Luke Lonczak then singled home Landon Laido for a 2-1 lead after Laido walked, moved up to second on Harmata’s ground out and took third on a wild pitch.
Laido drove in RBC’s third run with an RBI single in the top of the fifth, pushing the lead to 3-1. St. Augustine drew even in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI triple by Adam Williams and a two-out RBI single by winning pitcher Brady Jackson to score Williams from third after RBC starter Anthony Scaglione struck out Weingartner for the second out.
St. Augustine will host CBA in the sectional championship game Thursday.

East Carolina commit Braeden Lipoff and third baseman Chase Ladik each homered in the bottom of the fifth and the Rams got one extra-base hit from six different players to highlight a win over the Panthers that sends them to the sectional final on Thursday as the host team.
