Noah Hynes ran out of pitches one out shy of a complete game, but J.L. Gallina picked him up by recording the final out of a combined two-hitter on the mound that delivered the Panthers their second MCT championship in the last four years with Tuesday’s win over the Rebels.
Sophomore leftfielder Braden Cox starred at the plate for Ranney by going 3-for-3 with a home run shy of the cycle. He clubbed an RBI double to open the scoring in the top of the second inning and scored on an error, then crushed a triple to nearly the same spot in deep left-centerfield with two out in the fourth before being stranded.
Ranney tacked on three runs in the top of the fifth thanks to an RBI single by Brody McCorkle that made it 3-0 and another two-out throwing error that allowed two more runs to score.
Hynes pitched 6 2/3 innings, but walked back-to-back batters with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning to cross the 110-pitch limit for the game. The lone senior on Ranney’s roster, Hynes coasted through the first five innings on 62 pitches — a stretch in which Hynes did not issue a walk and allowed one hit on an infield single by Connor Halvorsen in the bottom of the first inning.
In the sixth inning, Hynes retired the first two batters before finally running into trouble. He walked Waylon Cavanagh, then hit Halvorsen before a wild pitch moved both runners up to second and third. Ryan Todisco then punched a 3-2 curveball from Hynes into right-centerfield, where centerfielder Brody Mauro made a diving effort that came up empty. Both runs scored, Todisco cruised into second with a double, then raced to third after Cox lost the handle on the ball while trying to retrieve it. Hynes walked one more batter, then induced an inning-ending ground out to Nico Owimrin at third base.
Gallina took over in the bottom of the seventh inning with runners on first and second and induced a come-backer to the mound that he flipped to first base for the final out of the game.

R.J. Conover hit a two-run double in a three-run first inning and Ryan Rude went 2-for-3 with a double while pitching a complete game as the Cougars coasted past the Lancers and into the Jarmusz Bracket championship game against Shore Regional, which is scheduled for Wednesday at Brookdale Community College.

Jayden Matejicka hit a go-ahead two-run home run with one out in the top of the seventh inning and the Colts battled back to beat the Braves on the road. Matejicka’s game-winning blast was the third home run of the game by CBA, which also scored on solo home runs by Griffin Kilcullen in the top of the third and Dylan Iwanyk in the top of the sixth.
