Class A South

No. 7 Brick Memorial 4, Jackson 2

Senior catcher Joe McGlynn belted a two-run home run in the first inning, added a sacrifice fly in the sixth and helped guide junior left-hander Zach Pirnik through a complete-game win as the Mustangs held on to beat the Jaguars.

McGlynn’s long ball to leftfield came with two out in the first and kicked off the scoring and the sac fly extended Brick Memorial’s lead to 3-1. Carney O’Donnell slammed an RBI double with none out in the bottom of the sixth to pull Jackson within 3-2, but Pirnik struck out the next three batters to preserve the lead.

Brody Moore led off the top of the seventh with a single into leftfield advanced all the way to third on an errant pick-off throw and scored an insurance run for Pirnik on a sacrifice fly by Trevor Kish.

An error leading off the bottom of the seventh gave Jackson a chance to bring the tying run to the plate, but Moore erased the runner by making a catch in centerfield and doubling off the runner at first for the first two outs of the seventh. Pirnik then induced a pop-out to end the game.

No. 6 Point Beach 4, No. 2 Wall 1 (9 Innings)

Back-to-back errors with one out in the top of the ninth plated the winning run and Tommy Conroy gave himself some insurance with a two-run single before finishing off a nine-inning complete-game on the mound that gave the Garnet Gulls a crucial win over the Crimson Knights.

In the bottom of the ninth, Conroy pitched around a leadoff single by Wyatt Hunt to finish off his nine-inning outing on 106 pitches — Conroy’s second complete game in the last six days, with the first one a two-hit shutout at Brick on Friday.

Danny Lubach crushed a game-tying solo home run in the top of the sixth inning in a 2-for-4 day at the plate. Wall jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a two-out RBI single by Davis Harr in the bottom of the second inning to score Luke Dana, who led off with a double.

The two teams will meet again next week and if Point Beach defeats Jackson on Monday, the April 30 game between the Garnet Gulls and Crimson Knights in Point Pleasant will be for the outright Class A South championship.

Matt Antonucci and Liam Opatosky each hit a triple during a four-run first inning by the Warriors, who rode Dylan McGowan on the mound for six innings before Kellan Quinn closed out a Warriors win over the Griffins.

Antonucci’s triple led off the game and Opatasky’s first of two triples drove in a run to make it 2-0 after an RBI single by Chase Kaplan plated Antonucci to open the scoring. Quinn added an RBI single in the first and Jack Soltis picked up an RBI with a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch. Soltis later doubled and scored in the sixth on an RBI bunt by Connor Lalli.
