Quarterfinals
(5) Rumson-Fair Haven 4, (13) Marlboro 3
Senior D.J. Ylagan swatted a go-ahead two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning and junior left-hander Cooper Jones finished off a complete-game three-hitter to send the Bulldogs past the Mustangs and into the MCT semifinals on Saturday vs. the winner of Thursday’s quarterfinal between No. 1 CBA and No. 9 Ranney.
Marlboro pushed two runs across in the top of the first thanks to some small ball and a two-out passed ball, then bumped its lead to 3-0 on an opposite-field solo home run by junior shortstop Ethan Huang.
Rumson broke onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth with a passed ball and Aiden Dill followed with an RBI single to pull the Bulldogs within 3-2. In the bottom of the fifth, Miles Martin drew a two-out walk and Ylagan made the most of it by lifting a homer over the rightfield fence.
Marlboro put two on in the top of the seventh against Jones thanks to a hit-by-pitch and a walk, but the Bulldogs southpaw picked up a strikeout for the second out and rolled a fielder’s choice ground out to end the game.

Quarterfinals
(14) Shore 1, (10) Manasquan 0
The Blue Devils bundled their only two hits of the game together in the top of the third inning to push across the only run of the game and Mike Russomano and Jesse Olea continued Shore’s outstanding pitching by combining on a four-hit shutout against the Warriors.
Russomano led off the third with a single and sophomore Luca Delonardo followed with a double to put runners on second and third with none out. Liam Hennelly wasted little time, striking a ground ball to shortstop to plate the game’s lone run.
Manasquan threatened in the top of the seventh with a single by Seamus Ahern and a walk by Jake Litzinger with none out. Olea got the first out with a force out at third on a ground ball to Braden Callandriello. Olea then picked off pinch-runner Connor Lalli at second base and induced a game-ending fly out.
Shore has now won six in a row and nine of its last 10. During the six-game winning streak, the Blue Devils have allowed a total of two runs while posting five shutouts as a pitching staff. Shore will take its hot streak into another division game Thursday at Marlboro, then play Middletown South Saturday in the Jarmusz Bracket semifinals.

No. 8 Howell 2, Middletown South 1
Three of Howell’s five hits — including both of its extra-base hits — came in succession during the bottom of the fourth inning and that was enough for Jack Quinn and John Bertan to pitch the Rebels to the finish line for their second straight 2-1 win over the Eagles.
Matt Vetrano slammed a one-out double to start the rally in the bottom of the fourth and scored the tying run on an RBI triple by Ryan Todisco on the very next pitch. Jake Liotti fell behind, 0-2, in the count but lined a single into left to chase home Todisco with the go-ahead run.
Matt Korth had given Middletown South the 1-0 lead with a two-out RBI single in the top of the fourth. Quinn allowed just one single over his final two innings following the fourth and Bertan closed the game by striking out the side in order.

No. 4 CBA 15, No. 1 Red Bank Catholic 10
Colin Hoverter capped a five-hit game with a game-tying RBI double in the top of the seventh as the Colts slugged nine extra-base hits and plated seven runs in the top of the seventh to beat the Caseys in a wild rematch after RBC dominated Monday’s series opener.
CBA scored six unanswered runs to turn a 6-2 deficit into an 8-6 lead by the top of the sixth inning. Jayden Matejicka ripped a three-run home run to cut RBC’s lead to 6-5 in the top of the fourth. Michael Knox the belted a game-tying solo home run in the top of the fifth to tie the game, 6-6. CBA took an 8-6 lead in the top of the sixth on an RBI triple by Dylan Reynholds — one of two triples by Reynholds — and an RBI double by Dylan Iwanyk.
RBC surged back in front thanks to four bases-loaded walks in the bottom of the sixth inning, which gave the Caseys a 10-8 lead heading to the top of the seventh.
Glen Popes took over on the mound looking for his second save to go with a 4-0 record and started the inning with a strikeout. Popes then hit Alex Fiore and Jayden Matejicka grounded a single into leftfield to put the tying runs on for Hoverter, who punched a line drive into leftfield to plate both runners an knot up the score.
RBC then committed errors on three straight balls in play in what was an error-free game up to that point. The three errors led to two more CBA runs and Parker Hughes added on with a two-run single to center, followed by an RBI double by Jared Matejicka to cap the scoring.
