NJSIAA Tournament
Sectional Championship
Central Jersey Group II
(7) Rumson-Fair Haven 47, (5) Manasquan 33
Senior Luke Cruz scored 17 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked four shots to lead the Bulldogs (20-8) on both sides of the floor as they snapped Manasquan’s run of six straight sectional titles while winning their first sectional championship since 2022. Rumson lost each of the last two Central Group II championship games at Manasquan before conquering the Warriors on the third try this season.
Senior Blake Ahmann added 10 points, eight rebounds and four steals, with three of those steals coming in the fourth quarter and one of them leading to a one-hand dunk that pushed Rumson’s lead to 38-29 with four minutes to play. Senior Luke Lydon, who finished with seven points, followed with a high-difficulty layup in transition to make it 40-29, which marked Rumson’s largest lead to that point in the game.
Junior Casey Moore chipped in eight points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs, who scored 15 of their 18 field goals on shots from inside the paint. A three-pointer by Lydon that made the score 29-20 in the third quarter was Rumson’s only three-point make of the game.
Junior Logan Cleveland led Manasquan (16-10) with 13 points and senior Jack O’Reilly grabbed 10 rebounds despite sitting most of the first half with two fouls. Junior Rey Weinseimer — who missed the Warriors’ first 25 games while recovering from surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee — made his season debut and hit a three-pointer from the corner on his second shot attempt, finishing with three points on 1-for-5 shooting.
Rumson moves on to the Group II semifinal Tuesday against South Jersey champion Middle Township, with the site to be determined.
