Senior pitcher Angela Sasso struck out eight batters and allowed just four hits, three walks, and one hit batter in a complete game shutout win for the Cougars (1-0, 1-0) over the Lions (1-2, 0-2). The Cougars scored all three runs in the bottom of the 5th inning which started with a double from senior 3B Julia Watkins. Watkins advance to second base on a sacrifice. Freshman LF Autumn Helms put down a bunt and reached first on an error which also scored Watkins. Helms then advanced to second base on a sacrifice. Ensuing doubles from junior catcher Katherine Rizzo and senior SS Gabriella Bryce added two more runs.

Non-Division

No. 5 Marlboro 9, No. 9 Southern 4

Junior 2B Ashlee Chen went 1-for-3 with a triple, a sacrifice fly, and three RBI’s as the Mustangs (1-0) defeated the Rams (1-3) in their first game of the season. Junior SS Isabella Wuelfing was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Senior pitcher Emily Gaudio was 1-for-1 at the plate with two walks and an RBI. Junior C Reese Grinberg went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Gaudio struck out eight batters in the win.

Senior CF Emily Zellman went 2-for-4 with a solo home run to left field in the loss. Junior 3B Madilyn Duralek was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Senior LF Kaedyn Lipowski finished 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Non-Conference

No. 6 Middletown South 2, A.L. Johnson 0

Junior pitcher Riley Smith struck out 13 batters and gave up just four hits and two walks in a complete game shutout for the Eagles (3-1) against the Crusaders (2-1). Freshman LF Olivia Wisiak hit a two-run RBI double in the top of the 4th inning to score the only runs in the game.
