(2) Donovan Catholic 3, (7) Barnegat 1
Senior Caroline Kopp crushed a 2-out, 2-run home run in the bottom of the 6th inning, to break a 1-1 tie and lift the Griffins (23-1) over the Bengals (19-2).
The Bengals took lead in the top of the 4th innings on a solo blast to center field from sophomore Brooke Rizzo. The Griffins tied the game in the bottom of the 4th inning after senior Isabella Maria dropped in a single in center field, stole two bases, and scored on an error.
Donovan Catholic will host (3) Marlboro in the semifinals next week.
(1) St. John Vianney 15, (9) Southern 0 (4 innings)
Senior pitcher Madison McDougall struck out seven batters in a four-inning perfect game, as the Lancers (23-0) rolled over the Rams (12-9). Junior 3B Brynn Utter went 1-for-2 with a home run, two walks, two RBI’s, and two runs. Junior CF Mia Favato was 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI’s, and two runs. Sophomore C Olivia Lombardi batted 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI’s, and a run. Freshman Olivia Haslacher finished 2-for-3 with a walk and three RBI’s.
St. John Vianney will host (4) Middletown South in the semifinals next week.
(4) Middletown South 4, (5) Red Bank Catholic 3
The Eagles (14-6) did all of their damage in the bottom of the 6th inning, and then held on in the 7th, to defeat the Caseys (11-10).
In the 6th, junior pitcher Riley Smith singled on a ground ball to center field. After an out, junior C Nora Sarcone was hit by a pitch. Sophomore LF Quinnlynn Heaney singled to score freshman courtesy runner Annie Wilson to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Sarcone then stole home to make the score 2-0. Later in the inning, junior 2B Ciara Sparandero singled on a fly ball to right field to score another run. Sophomore 1B Jordyn Cowell added one more RBI single to make the score 4-0 heading into the final inning.
The Caseys went down fighting as freshman 2B Rebecca Green singled before junior SS Grace Lombardi crushed a 2-run home run to left field. The Caseys added one more run later in the inning when sophomore LF Brooke Rodriguez hit an RBI single. Middletown South’s Smith then struck out the final batter to preserve the victory.
Middletown South will travel to (1) St. John Vianney in the semifinals next week.
Non-Division
Middletown North 5, Matawan 3
Sophomore 1B Izzy Mattison went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run, as the Lions (9-13) topped the Huskies (12-9). Junior DP Deana Coberg went 1-for-3 with two RBI’s. Senior SS Julie Frontera was 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run. Senior 3B Brianna Soto finished 2-for-4 with a double a run. Sophomore pitcher Aubrey Borchers recorded seven strikeouts in the win.
Brick Memorial 5, St. Rose 2
Junior pitcher Avery Nalducci recorded 11 strikeouts and allowed only five hits and a walk, as the Mustangs (7-12) defeated the Purple Roses (8-15). Freshman 3B Gabrielle Vida went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI’s, and a run. Junior CF Emma Naples was 2-for-3 and scored a run.

New Egypt 21, Paulsboro 15
Freshman CF Hannah Raulf went 4-for-5 with three doubles, four RBI’s, and three runs, as the Warriors (12-10) defeated the Red Raiders (7-15) in an offensive explosion. Senior 3B Samantha Potts went 1-for-4 with a triple, a walk, three RBI’s, and two runs.
Absegami 9, Freehold Township 3
