Second Round

(5) Red Bank Catholic 4, (12) Central 2

Sophomore pitcher Mackenna Savage recorded 12 strikeouts and allowed six hits, one walk, and only two earned runs, in addition to crushing a solo home run to left field, as the Caseys (11-9) prevailed over the Golden Eagles (12-8).

The Golden Eagles took the lead in the top of the 4th inning when junior Kayla Fedor singled on a line drive to right field to score sophomore RF Kayla Rasmussen. The Caseys responded in the bottom of the 4th inning on an RBI triple to right field from junior RF Grace Grimaldi. On the very next at bat, junior 1B Gabby Milevoi hit a sacrifice fly to score Grimaldi. Later in the inning, senior CF Torri Case hit an RBI double.

Savage’s home run came in the bottom of the 5th inning. Central would get a run back in the top of the 6th inning on another RBI single from Fedor.

Red Bank Catholic will travel to (4) Middletown South on Saturday in the quarterfinals.

(1) St. John Vianney 8, (17) Freehold Boro 0

Senior pitcher Madison McDougall pitched a perfect game with 19 strikeouts to lead the Lancers (22-0) past the Colonials (13-9) and into the quarterfinals. In addition to her excellence on the mound, McDougall batted 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and two runs. Senior SS Gabby Gonzalez was sensational as well, finishing 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, four RBI’s, and a run. Sophomore C Olivia Lombardi went 2-for-4 with a solo home run. Freshman RF Peyton McDougall was 1-for-3 with two RBI’s.

St. John Vianney will host (9) Southern in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

(2) Donovan Catholic 11, (15) Shore 0 (5 innings)

Senior pitcher Caroline Kopp recorded nine strikeouts and allowed only one hit and one walk in four innings, as the Griffins (22-1) blanked the Blue Devils (16-5). Junior Mia Kelliher batted 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBI’s. Junior Isabella Cino was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI’s, and two runs. Junior Molly Hoops hit a solo home run. Freshman Kourtney Murphy finished 1-for-1 with a walk, two RBI’s, and a run. Senior Isabella Maria batted 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run.

Donovan Catholic will host (7) Barnegat in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

(6) Holmdel 9, (22) Howell 0

Senior pitcher Julia Henderson recorded 10 strikeouts, allowed only three hits, and batted 2-for-4 with two RBI’s, and two runs, as the Hornets (15-3) avenged their loss from a few weeks ago to defeat the Rebels (9-10) and advance to the quarterfinals. Junior C Natalie Clifford went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI’s, and two runs. Senior CF Delaney Savage was 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBI’s. Sophomore LF Olivia Frontera hit a 2-RBI single. Freshman SS Amanda Tuccillo went 3-for-4 and scored three runs.

Holmdel will travel to (3) Marlboro in the quarterfinals on Friday.

(7) Barnegat 10, (10) Raritan 0 (5 innings)

Senior Riley Schmidt and junior Gianna Skwirut each belted 3-run home runs, and junior pitcher Gianna Gomez recorded 11 strikeouts and allowed only three walks in a five inning no-hitter, as the Bengals (19-1) rolled over the Rockets (16-7).

Schmidt finished 2-for-3 with the three run home run and two runs. Skwirut was 1-for-1 with the home run, a walk, and two runs. Freshman Makaila Wickham batted 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI, and two runs. Sophomore Brooke Rizzo hit 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run. Junior Tristian Zalewski went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run.

Barnegat will travel to (2) Donovan Catholic in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

(9) Southern 13, (8) Colts Neck 3

Senior C Kendra Perrini batted 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, and two RBI’s, as the Rams (12-7) knocked off the Cougars (10-9). Senior LF Kaedyn Lipowski went 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run. Junior 2B Christina Brooks was 1-for-4 with a double, a walk, two RBI’s, and a run. Junior SS Abigail Krill went 2-for-5 with an RBI and three runs. Junior pitcher Brooke Sutter recorded six strikeouts and allowed only three hits and three walks in six innings to earn the win.

Notably, senior pitcher Angela Sasso did not play in the loss for the Cougars. Senior 3B Julia Watkins batted 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, and a run.

Southern will travel to top-seeded St. John Vianney in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

(3) Marlboro 10, (19) Matawan 0 (5 innings)

Senior pitcher Emily Gaudio recorded seven strikeouts and allowed only one hit,  in addition to batting 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, and a run, as the Mustangs (14-6) blanked the Huskies (12-8). Junior SS Isabella Wuelfing went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and two runs. Junior 2B Alyssa Abadiatokis finished 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs.

Marlboro will host (6) Holmdel in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Liberty

Rumson-Fair Haven at Lacey- PPD, 5/19

Point Beach 19, Henry Hudson 2 (4 innings)

Freshman 3B Brynn Rusbarsky went 3-for-3 with a triple, two walks, four RBI’s, and three runs, as the Garnet Gulls (5-14) routed the Admirals (9-7). Freshman 1B Faith Schilk batted 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBI’s, and three runs. Senior SS Bridget Kane was 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, two RBI’s, and three runs. Sophomore 2B Lyla Coyle finished 1-for-2 with two walks, two RBI’s, and two runs. Junior pitcher Gia Gates recorded six strikeouts and allowed only four hits and a walk.

Senior CF Marishka Evelich went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI’s in the loss.

Non-Conference

Florence 7, New Egypt 1

The Warriors (10-10) fell to the Flashes (12-4). Sophomore 2B Caroline Davis went 2-for-4 with a double in the loss.
