Sectional Semifinals

Central Jersey Group 4

(3) Marlboro 7, (2) Sayreville 0

Senior pitcher Emily Gaudio struck out 12 batters and allowed only two hits and two walks, as the Mustangs (19-7) prevailed over the Bombers (24-3). Junior SS Isabella Wuelfing went 3-for-4 with two RBI’s and two runs. Freshman LF Samantha Joy was 2-for-2 with a triple, two walks, and three runs. Freshman RF Savannah Joy batted 3-for-4 with a run. Gaudio hit 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Marlboro will travel to (1) Hillsborough in the sectional final later this week.

Central Jersey Group 3

(1) Steinert 9, (4) Colts Neck 1

Senior pitcher Ellie Miller recorded seven strikeouts and allowed only three hits and a walk, as the Spartans (22-4) eliminated the Cougars (13-10). Senior SS Mia Pope and junior C Francesca Castellano each crushed a home run.

Senior pitcher Angela Sasso hit a solo home run on her first at bat of the game in the loss. Senior 3B Julia Watkins was 2-for-3.

Colts Neck graduates a tremendous senior class led by Sasso, Watkins, Gabriella Bryce, and Gabriella Saveriano.

(3) Middletown South 6, (10) Brick Memorial 0

Junior pitcher Riley Smith recorded 12 strikeouts and allowed only three hits and two runs, as the Eagles (18-7) blanked the Mustangs (10-14). Sophomore 1B Jordyn Cowell went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI’s. Junior CF Mia Collins was 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI, and a run. Junior 2B Ciara Sparandero registered a walk, an RBI, and a run. Junior C Nora Sarcone finished 1-for-3 with a run. Sophomore LF Quinnlynn Heaney drew a walk and scored a run.

Junior pitcher Avery Nalducci struck out five batters and allowed five hits and four walks in the loss. Junior SS Carly Hobbs went 1-for-2 with a walk. Sophomore RF Alivia Capano doubled.

Middletown South will travel to (1) Steinert in the sectional final later this week.

The future is bright for the Mustangs who return several impact players including Nalducci, Hobbs, rising sophomore Gabrielle Vida, and rising senior Emma Naples.

Central Jersey Group 2

(1) Allentown 4, (5) Raritan 3

The Rockets (21-8) lost a heartbreaker to the Redbirds (20-6) on an RBI ground out on the final play of the game. Raritan threw the ball to first base for the second out of the inning and proceeded to throw the ball to third base, which allowed the Allentown runner that started on third base to run home for the game-winning run.

Raritan went down 2-0 in the 2nd inning. The Rockets scored their first run in the 3rd inning on an RBI single from junior Madison Regiec. They tied the game in the 6th inning on a solo home run to left field from sophomore Brielle Brosonski. In the 7th inning, junior Payton Fleming reached first base on an error and advanced all the way to third base. Regiec then hit another RBI single to give the Rockets the lead heading into the final inning.

Raritan graduates three seniors and will return a host of talented underclassmen.

South Jersey Group 2

(2) Barnegat 1, (3) Haddon Heights 0

Senior pitcher Gianna Gomez recorded 15 strikeouts and allowed only two hits and a walk, as the Bengals (23-2) edged the Garnets (18-10). The Bengals scored the game’s lone run in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Sophomore 2B Brooke Rizzo and Gomez recorded back-to-back doubles to give Barnegat runners on 2nd and 3rd. Freshman 3B Makaila Wickham then singled on a fly ball to score Rizzo, on what would become the eventual game-winning run.

Barnegat will travel to (1) Gloucester in the sectional final later this week.

Central Jersey Group 1

(9) Florence 7, (5) New Egypt 1

Junior pitcher Logan Saintz recorded three strikeouts and allowed only four hits, as the Flashes (15-5) eliminated the Warriors (16-11).

Senior SS Olivia Stillwell went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the loss.

New Egypt will graduate two seniors in Stillwell and CF Samantha Potts, while returning a host of young talent.
