Sectional Semifinals

Central Jersey Group III

(4) Colts Neck 59, (9) Freehold Boro 47

Senior Lukas Sloane scored 27 points, grabbed nine rebounds and handed out three assists to power the Cougars (17-9) past the defending-champion Colonials (20-8) and into a sectional final for the first time since 2018.

Sloane scored 16 of his points in the first half and went 7-for-8 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to help Colts Neck close out the victory. The Cougars never trailed in the game and their 12-point margin was their largest lead of the night.

Senior Bryce Belcher added 12 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots and spent the majority of his time on the defensive end guarding Freehold Boro senior and leading scorer Brian Tassey. Tassey finished with 20 points on 7-for-15 shooting, with two of his four second-half field goals coming off turnovers forced by Freehold Boro’s press and another coming in the final minute with Colts Neck already ahead by double-figures.

Junior point guard Dillon Younger also added nine points and four assists for Colts Neck.

Senior Aidan Hamlin-Woolfolk scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds with two blocks for Freehold Boro and classmate Qua’Mir Everett netted six points to go with three steals and two blocked two shots in the loss.

Colts Neck will host a sectional final for the fourth time in program history Friday, when No. 6 Ewing makes the trip east to challenged the Cougars. Colts Neck lost the Central Jersey Group IV final at home vs. Trenton in 2018 and its only sectional title came in 2016, when the Cougars beat Freehold Township at the buzzer in Colts Neck.

Central Jersey Group I

(10) New Providence 51, (3) Point Beach 44

Senior Scot Crowley scored a game-high 16 points in the final game of his career, but the Garnet Gulls (20-8) could not keep his final season alive in a home loss to the Pioneers (11-17).

Colin McAloon led New Providence with 14 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots. T.J. Munn added 12 and Alex Zamora scored all nine of his points in the fourth quarter to contribute in the win.

Sophomore Tyler Preston added 11 points and seven rebounds for Point Beach, which lost two starters in the fourth quarter for the second straight game. Sophomore forward Danny Cavanaugh left with an injury in the opening minutes of the quarter and did not return, while Crowley fouled out with 1:01 left and New Providence leading, 46-41.

Crowley pulled Point Beach within 44-41 with a three-point play with 2:52 left, but the Garnet Gulls could not get it closer.
