The Hawks (2-4) staved off a furious Titans (3-3) rally for their second win of the season.

They built up leads of 14-0 and 21-6 in the first half, thanks to rushing touchdowns from junior quarterback Trevor Freyer and junior running back Avery Butler, and a passing score from Freyer to senior tight end Lucas Potenza. The Titans cut the deficit to 21-12 at the half, as junior running back Taurian Black burst up the middle for a 33-yard score, two plays after a long kickoff return from sophomore Cameron Clagon set them up in plus territory. Manchester got into the red zone late in the second quarter, but ran out of time before the half expired.

But the Hawks responded with another methodical drive, capped off by Freyer’s second rushing score of the afternoon on a nine-yard keeper. He added a successful conversion on the ensuing two-point try to push the lead to 29-26 with under four minutes to play.

With the game on the line, Manchester’s defense bent but didn’t break, as it forced a stuffed run and an incompletion on third- and fourth-and-goal from its four-yard line. Rand’s final pass fell incomplete with just seven seconds remaining to seal the Hawks’ victory.
