Senior midfielder Davis Campbell, junior attackman Caden Lucich, and sophomore midfielder Christian Fox each scored twice and senior defenseman Luke Krebs delivered a goal-mouth hit to prevent a scoring chance at the buzzer as the Colts (1-2) held off the Vikings (1-1) in a matchup of state-ranked teams.

CBA began the season ranked No. 5 in the state by NJ.com while Eastern, last season’s South Group 4 sectional champion, is ranked No. 16.

Lucich added an assist for a team-high three points along with freshman attackman Jackson Shaney, who tallied a goal and two assists. Junior goalie Shayne Boresen made 12 saves to earn his first varsity win. Senior defenseman Quinn Kelly, freshman midfielder Chase Grimando, and senior attackman Carter McGuire had a goal and an assist each and Krebs added an assist to his game-clinching defensive play. Freshman FOGO Nicholas Mangelli won 11 of 20 at the X.

Junior attackman Kieran Duffy scored a game-high six goals to lead Eastern.

 

Neptune 7, Ewing 5

Sophomore midfielder Hunter Reynolds scored six goals, picked up 14 ground balls, and went 6-for-12 on face-offs and sophomore goalie Christian Loff made 16 saves to help the Scarlet Fliers (1-1) take down the Blue Devils (1-3) for their first win of the season.

Senior midfielder Daniel Merrit added one goal and 10 ground balls.

 

St. Joseph (Metuchen) 11, Wall 4

Patrick Freud scored twice, Mikey Hoarle had a goal and an assist, and Owen Moore scored once for the Crimson Knights (0-1) in their season-opening loss to the Falcons (2-1).
